HERE2 - A History of Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park is more than a history of hard and inventive work to plant trees in a treeless, windswept environment. It is more than a history of the struggles of those who sought a bucolic park against those who had sought to locate massive building projects in a large convenient location. The construction of Golden Gate Park creates a myth of what San Francisco might be have been had the city never been built - it's implied, garden of Eden.

Excellent video! I love San Francisco and I used to live about 3 blocks away from the park (the Botanical Garden entrance) and we could see the park from the balcony outside the kitchen. I can kick myself now for almost never having exploited the opportunity of living so near such a beautiful place and having visited there more often than a few times. You never really appreciate what you have until it's gone :-(.

The entrance off of Haight street is a Nexus of joy....it seemed everything went quiet when I entered the park on my only visit to S.F. ....THE best place in the U.S. period...I did not want to leave. Excellent video!

Not the quiet, but the joy is sort of what that area meant for folks during the early hippie days in the Haight, circa 1965-66.

My Carrie, who was born in the Bay Area, gave me a wonderful gift. Bringing me to the most beautiful city in the Nation, San Francisco ! I have since been there at least 14 times.

A past, not passed, what’s wrong with people?
I think the park took some inspiration from Central Park
