EBay is just a rogue state these days. There is another option which happened to me two years ago - a bidder, really keen like yours, lots of messages etc in the run up to auction end. Turns out he was bidding high to put others off as he himself was selling a similar car and wanted me out of the way so people would bid on his car. I had no come back and eBay wasn’t interested..he even left negative feedback saying “car not as described” even though he never showed up!

For me....use ebay to advertise the car with a fixed price. This helps to reach a bigger audience. Interested parties can come and view it. Of course you will have to deal with the stupid ebay emails from people who are not genuine about buying the car and want a swap for a Toyota camry with 180,000 miles and 500 quid. Dont put it to auction ss there are too many wannabes and scammers and you will end up losing your time, effort and money. I think its a common story you have and many people have experienced this, me included. But I have to admit its an awesome motor and I would love it! I'm off to Silverstone auctions now! Thanks for a great video 👍

It’s sure to be ruinous but yet I can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ve found getting much more hands on with the cars with help from KZread has keep the cost down considerably. eBay has a lot of scammer sellers, so to get over the problem of people not getting what they paid for, etc, eBay gives buyer protection guarantees. It may seem like eBay takes the buyer's side all the time, but it's the nature of the site. The specialist car auction sites confirm identities, addresses, bank details, and have the credit/debit card details of all bidders, etc. There's much more trust in the sellers, the accuracy of the car descriptions, and the bidders. eBay and the specialist car auction sites operate significantly different selling models from each other.

One scam to look out for when selling on eBay goes like this; The car sells for a good price. The buyer just doesn't respond to messages. You re-list the car and now you're open to slightly lower offers. The car sells. Buyer doesn't respond. Endless loop. Meanwhile "someone else" contacts you interested in buying the car outside of eBay....

I wouldn't sell anything of value on ebay. Not as an auction anyway. Ebay care about only one thing. Ebay. If I were to sell a car on ebay, it would be as a classified, setting the price a little above what I really wanted, and invite people to come and view and make 'sensible' offers. Then select the best offer, which is not just about price, but also about whether the buyer is worthy and/or is likely to pay without messing and won't stalk you if the car later goes wrong. It is also really good fun seeing how imaginative people can be in phrasing an absurdly low offer, e.g 'I'll take it off your hands for £500 pounds mate, cash'. I mean if you offer something derisory often enough, eventually someone will accept, right?

I know then the person would probably just refuse to pay that fixed amount. But the way they could do it is so in order to actually make a bid, the amount gets taken out of their account there and then and gets put on hold until the auction is finished. If they don’t win, they get their money back. If they do win auction and actually pay, they get their money back

Option two is the most likely, although there is a fourth option which is common when selling exotic motors like this (and at 61 I've had my fair share of these, even before Ebay); and that option is The Dreamer. These are Walter Mitty characters who would like to own such a machine as the 760, but know also know from the outset that they don't have the resources to buy it. However, they pretend to be genuine buyers, turn up to view just the same, drive the car, make a bid, win and disappear. Never had any problems like this selling Fiat Siecentos and Nissan Micras.

Joel, I think the key takeaway here is don't commit any money or time in supporting buyers getting to wherever the vehicle is based. It sounds a little harsh, I know, but remember that it's a commercial transaction - it's up to them to make and fund all logistical arrangements. You're a good guy but in these sorts of circumstances, put your business head on and wait for them to turn up. In the event that they don't, you're just left with a degree of disappointment and frustration but that's the extent of your loss.

I'm selling a car on ebay at the mo', it is difficult dealing with chancers and dodgy characters. I tried Piston heads before and was contacted by x3 scammers. Why would someone offer half the asking price and expect you to accept it as they will "collect it now bruv" It never used to be like this :-(

Hello, I am the brother of the person who won your car, I think his name is Scott. I am here to tell you that he is actually dead. We’re quite sad but never mind. He passes on his apologies. He was actually dragged into the baggage carousel in a bizarre incident involving a ludicrously long tie (he was quite keen to look smart for you). Best of luck with the sale on Silverstone Auctions. I don’t really want the car because it obviously brings back haunting memories of my beloved brother Sid, I mean Scott, but I might bid anyway if that’s okay? I’ve got a spare bit of time as my wife is always out at the moment.

Stories like this about eBay Car Auctions are commonplace. I have been on ebay for over twenty one years now and on the whole it has been a pleasant experience. Just one of two folks annoyingly failed to complete or deliver. That with over 3,000 transactions and 100% positive feedback.. I have not yet ever listed a complete car. I have sold a few via Facebook Car enthusiast Groups. Often simply mentioning my car had just passed its MoT with a picture to have one or two folks show an interest to let them know if I ever decide to sell. I plan to list one of my MGs using the eBay Classified option rather than an auction early in the New Year when Christmas expenses are a fading memory. Things like that make a difference. The car is worth only about £3000 but is a nice example and drives surprisingly well. Finally, not familiar with eBay charges or costs for car auctions or classified for sale listings. How do they work and what charges apply will help me decide best option?

Man i feel for you it's happened to me too, the world is full of weirdos and cretins but amongst all the tossers there are some genuine lovely people as you yourself can probably attest to. What i do now is put in the advert that the winning bidder must pay £500 deposit via PayPal or bank transfer and anyone not willing to do that not to bid. Love and peace. Martin

Listen, just learn from you experiences. Put it back on eBay and just tell the ‘buyer’ where to pick it up from and if they’re not happy with that, too bad. I sell a lot of stuff on eBay and Gumtree etc. and I always make it clear in the listing that if you’re not happy and willing to collect, don’t buy. And if they still buy and then want me to drop something off or do something else, I simply tell them no and relist. So, all you need to do in the future is report & cancel the transaction on eBay (so you get your fees back) and relist. A genuine buyer will turn up eventually. Just don’t put yourself out for anyone

Hate it when anyone, let alone super nice people like yourself get f.. .. d over. Happens all too often, sadly. But take heart, your unfortunate experience is something your many friends on your channel can learn from - don't sell cars on eBay. I have no doubt a genuine buyer will not be long in coming. Meanwhile, keep up the great work. You are a natural communicator and your videos get better all the time. Go well!

Only thing I don't understand with a lot of sellers on e bay is he says he started the listing " at a penny to give everyone a chance of owning the car" then says his reserve is 8k? Why not just start the bidding at 8k then and slightly lessen the chance of time wasters???

problem with second chance offers is like me i have been outbid, then later get offer of a previous bid, but other bids may also of been beaten by the winner so i could of got a lot of bids earlier, so i dont take up the offer because it looks like the seller has got one of their mates to bid for them "shilling" i believe its called, so example i bid 1k they bid 1100, i bid 1200, they bid 1300, they win, pull out, and i get the offer of 1200, even tho the same person beat my 1k so i should get that offered! but i wouldn't buy a car on ebay any way! its bad enough buying watches, but i see you wear a pricey rolex so i'm surprised you keep buying cheap cars when got that!

Ebay seriously needs to look at giving sellers more rights especially with vehicles, and I agree if the buyer is fraudulant ebay should pay at least a percentage of the sale price, at the moment Ebay wins whatever happens and they need to take responsibility for fraud on their site.
