The Honda S2000 was a revelation for the drop-top sports coupe and became one of the most popular JDM sports cars in the modern era. But while they once were affordable, S2000s are now appreciating at a rate that is quickly outpacing the pocketbook of the average enthusiast.

I think it’s more people now just only caring about stats and not how a car feels at the limit, my buddy for example when we talk about me wanting a s2000 says that it’s way too weak and to get a c5 corvette and to me that just is 🤢 when you compare it to the s2000. Both good sports cars but better at different things, for my type of driving a s2000 seems far more fun then a corvette that will just roast the tires everytime I wanna get on it.

@@KevinDFuller94 It's a simple case of clout chasing. There's a reason _most_ of these cars exploded in price(and popularity) with Instagram and social media "car guys". Shit in the last 10 years I've seen my favorite series of cars(old Z cars) explode from high 4 and low 5 figure sums to people unironically pricing them _twice_ what it costs to buy a brand new, fully ticked out Z. The other day I saw some dude trying to sell a _280_ for something over 80,000 dollars - that's the price of 2 base model 2023 Zs or 20-30 thousand over one at the highest trim level. *Shit you could buy a GTR for that kind of money.* And I know this shit entirely due to clout - because Zs have always been moderately popular but _nobody_ was willing to give up that kind of money for a Z car before.

@@The_Crimson_Fucker you sound ridiculous. People want 90s JDM cars that have been out of production for years, so naturally the prices are going to reflect that. That's how it works with anything that is in high demand and has a limited supply not just cars. It's supply & demand.

I was pretty lucky to pick one up right as the pandemic was kicking into overdrive and scored a 88k 04 for under 17k. Almost a year later and I'm seeing high mileage, 125k+, ap1's going for well over $20k. I don't think I could get the $30k yet, but I'm glad to have such an awesome car parked in my garage.

S2000 owner here. After watching your GTR and Supra videos, I was afraid this might come soon and sure enough it did. I bought my 2002 AP1 with 92500 miles in 2010 for $11000. 11 years later, it has 135000 miles (though it's my only car, I don't drive much). With the way the prices are going, I can probably sell it now and still make money... but I'd rather not. This was a great, true enthusiast's car that could be had for cheap but sadly no longer. For years, I've been trying to get my friend to get one and he almost pulled the trigger a few times (even got his wife's permission)... unfortunately, after all the years of waiting, the ship's sailed with the price being like this now. Some S owners are happy about the price appreciation... but I'm not in that camp. I had always planned on getting another S (newer and lower mileage) after I was done with my current one. Looks like that's not going to be feasible or sensible now.

I've noticed your other "Here's Why You Can't Afford..." videos pop up in my feed, but I never checked them out because of the cheesy click bait titles. I only watched this one because I own a S2000 and tend to watch content related to these cars. I'm glad I did as you've done a really nice job with this video. It's actually one of the more interesting, informative videos regarding the S2000 that I've seen. As far as S2000 prices are concerned, I'd note that prices for all sorts of things have been thrown way out of whack by the pandemic, not just classic/enthusiast cars (the S2000 certainly isn't alone in this trend) or even used cars for that matter. It's also important to note that these cars are more than capable of racking up some serious mileage - a S2000 with 150K miles still has a lot of life left in it. These cars definitely represent the end of an era given Honda's announcement of their plans to get out of the internal combustion game. Every automaker out there seems to understand that this Net Zero push is going to dramatically change the automotive landscape. While it's anyone's guess as to just when the ICE will be banned from our roads, if there was ever a time to enjoy driving a car like the S2000, it would seem to be now.

My guy. Here's the issue that I have. While I like your video of why you can't afford a Skyline NSX etc, your last video is literally titled: Buy these JDM cars now before it's TOO LATE. This completely goes against everything I thought you stood against about some cars getting so expensive, now you're contributing to the problem. If shit keeps going like the way it is with Doug Demuro, Hagerty and Magnus Walker, Fitment Industries, Donut Media and with the aid of social media like Facebook and Instagram, all of these cars including any non performance variants of the same car or some cars in general are going to get so expensive that the average person may as well not drive. Shit used to be so affordable, everything's getting more expensive nowadays, and we certainly really don't need anymore cars to go up stupidly now. Also I don't understand why people buy cars as an investment. Buy a car because you love it not because you want to make money off it in the future. Also makes me laugh when people say, 'appreciating asset Lol. Assets is something that put money in your pocket every month. Cars don't do that. Its a liability. I like your videos man. You do extensive research and I like the way you explain things and your style of presenting but please don't contribute to the madness man. And please DO NOT make anything on German cars. That's literally the last thing we need and some are getting stupidly expensive already.

I appreciate the input! But as much as I'd like to believe that videos like this are the reason for these price trends, they're not. The collectors car market doesn't hinge on things like KZread videos. These are established price trends that 20+ years in the making, and the buyers and sellers of these cars are hardly in the demographic of my viewer base. The things I make videos on have been reported on a thousand times before me and will continue to be documented an infinite times after. I merely take information from the internet and put it in one place. As far as the titles go, well they're provocative by design, but as you're well aware the information in the video is just simple trend analysis.

Honda needs to keep making more meme tier cars. Their vtec engines are just too good for them to move on from their internal combustion motoring heritage. They need to keep building efficient gas cars for passenger vehicles to fight EV’s and keep using their formula 1 technology for special cars like their type R’s, Type S, and Type V. The time to pick up a CR is probably just too late now. Shouldn’t have waited to pick one up 3 years ago. Definitely big sad.

Fight EV's? Honda has already announced that they are abandoning the internal combustion engine, embracing EV's completely by 2040. Pretty much every auto maker these days realizes that Net Zero is the way of the future. How much longer the ICE will be allowed on the road is hard to predict, but it's safe to say that the best time to enjoy cars like the S2000 is now.

Definitely a challenge to find a nice and clean s2000 in today's day and age. I have been wanting one for 4 years and the prices kept going up over the years. A few months back, I narrowed down my search to a 2006 and up, clean title, 2 or 3 owners, stock or as stock as possible, below 100k miles, in new formula red, and with a budget of $25k. I searched pretty much the entire United States and after a few months of searching, I finally found "the one". It checked off all the boxes except for being a hair above 100k miles. The seller was letting it go for a great price and I just couldn't say no to the deal. I drove 10 hours out of state to test drive the car and drove it back home the same day. Best decision ever!

Only 50 CR Delete models (no AC/radio) were made, making it one of the rarest production cars of the last two decades and the rarest S2K. The remaining 649 CR models had AC and radio, which is why a Delete model fetches a premium. The BB CR sold with radio and AC was not one of ten, but one of over 200. BB is the color most produced color and the vast majority of all CR models had radio and AC. See S2KI for production numbers, etc. Cheers.

It was also the 1st "non emergency" vehicle in Japan to wear red paint (white was also reserved]). A fact I was told 2 decades ago, and have never been able to find proof of it on the Internet.. Anywhere. I brought it up to the trainers that Honda sends around to the dealerships. One said that she thought she had heard that before, but couldn't remember where. A week later she sent me a text with photos from the book "Dreams into Action". The chapter is called "The car is going to be red!" I originally wanted a black one, and that was the main reason I settled on red. When I brought it home, it tripped 1800 miles as I pulled her into the garage. My girlfriend thought I was crazy when I told her that I was going to sell this car one day for 6 digits. With 16K on it, it's worth 45 to 50 now.. And she no longer thinks that I'm crazy.
