Here's Why the Orange OR-120 is an All Time Classic

I don't have access to lots of cool, expensive cars to review like Doug DeMuro, but I wouldn't want to trod on that ground since he does such an awesome job, anyway. But I can do a tribute and a review of this fantastic vintage amp, thus killing two birds with one stone!
This amp is one of my all time favorites. The sounds of bands like Black Sabbath, Sleep, Windhand, The Sword, Electric Wizard, and so many more modern Stoner/Doom bands are my favorite amp tones. This Orange excels at those sounds.
Guitars used:
1980 Greco EG600 (Ace Frehley model) with DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and DiMarzio PAF Pro in the the neck.
2001 Fender Classic 50's Strat with American Standard pickups, a Kahler with teflon glass rollers, and an aftermarket maple neck with a thin, nearly nonexistent finish.
1975 Gibson SG II with Mike Reilander clones of John Birch Magnums and a Stewmac Leo Quan style bridge held in place with Titanium posts.

Wow, extremely cool. This actually makes me even more impressed with my R120 pedal from Giulio at Kuro Custom Audio in Italy. It replicates the entire amp circuit (except the tubes), including Baxandall tone stack, FAC and HF Drive. After hearing this and other OR120 videos, Giulio really did nail it throughout the ranges of the various controls. He also makes a T120 which replicates the Matamp GT120. Great guy to deal with. Not being paid to say this, just blown away by how close his R120 comes to the actual amp. Really good video, by the way!

I actually did not use it with this video, and truth be told, I actually don't own the Orange or the Weber anymore! I go through a lot of gear in chasing my tone, and in making these videos. Lots of buying and selling! And honestly, I'd much rather do an attenuater rather than do some kind of master volume mod because the tone will dramatically change (they actually made master volume versions in later years and they are not nearly as loved). Ultimately I found that I was happy with my non finicky and always consistent digital emulation with the Line 6 Helix. But still, this amp was an absolute blast while I owned it and it rattled the windows something fierce.

@@Funnychainsaw26 from what I understand it changes the circuit and alters the sound. An amp tech could talk about it far more intelligently than I can! This was a great video and thank you for the content. I wanted to comment to give a suggestion, as I have found myself laughing my balls off as I walk around my house listening to you on headphones lol. It's a very niche thing, but for accessibility purposes you may want to think about your panning choices. I'm not sure if you are aware but your room mic for your voice was pannned hard left and all the playing was panned hard right. Even for perfectly balanced ears it was a bit jarring on headphones, it feels like the audio version of a jump cut in video editing terms. But for me, I was laughing my ass off doing chores around the house because I have about 1/4 hearing in my right ear lol 😆 imagine me anticipating the sound of everything you're talking about and just hearing basically nothing lol it became a meme in my head quick lol I want to love this amp but I can't actually hear it lmfao. Keeping the panning more neutral can help people like me still hear the bottom end and not have such a jarring volume and tone change too. I can flip around my headphones and hear what you intended, but it's more work for both of us with that amount of imaging lol

more treble = more bass. don't ask me to explain it but anyone who has spent more than an hour trying to play metal knows haha

There is something wrong with the audio. Seems the clip microphone didn't work or out of phase and from 12 mins onwards its mostly in mono (only on left channel). Very quiet and changing volume when you moved your head. I'm not complaining but wanted to hear what you had to say.

That's exactly right. I only realized once I went to edit that the lav mic was only transmitting intermittently. Funny thing is, this is literally the only time that has ever happened. I've used it a hundred times and it's part of my live rig, and I've never had it crap out like that. So rather than film everything again, which would have been a nightmare given my schedule at the time, I just used the camera audio and compensated as much as I could in post.

Not from what I understand. I'm no tech, but from what I've read, these things are finicky and hard to get into the right bias. Maybe a tech could answer more fully!

@@sid35gb In yojimbo, they (maybe mistakenly) refer to the coffin guy as a cooper. the two rivaling gangs serve only to "keep the cooper busy.". an old fashioned coffin might not be that farr of from a barrel! or maybe he did both jobs, and the coopering was slow! 😂

1683clifton just had a thought they could change the Crest get rid of the barrel, put a on coffin ⚰️ instead and then use it for a Toni Iommi Orange 🍊 signature amp with a built in treble boost circuit the pix for it could be the hand of Doom 🤘and the cabinet finished in a nice Black Tolex

I am 60 slave means you can plug one amp head to another, that your using. Your only using the power amp section of the other amps. Not the preamp that controls them.
