It is only the one next to the worst.

I think it's a very good looking van. I just wish Mercedes offered a high-trim version of it in the US like they do in Europe with the Vito (with better paint, fog lamps, a body kit, sunroofs, leather seats, woodgrain, etc.). I've seen some of these Metris vans outfitted by aftermarket companies to look like high-end vans (or even like Maybach vans) and they look absolutely spectacular inside and out.

in my opinion the Metris should not be compared to any of the other soccer mom vehicles or grocery go getters of your choice. This is a workhorse intended for professional use, a solid piece of equipment made in Germany. End of the story.

I think he was playing along the idiocy of the other review of the Metris. It is an unfair comparison, the two belong to two very distinct categories. The odyssey is MINI VAN designed for large families, a car to go to the supermarket on weekends. The Metris is a a VAN.

whats it like for running errands around town and parking in " regular" parking spaces?

There is a van van version of it and costs around 25k, so for this one you get 2 more row of seats for 20k more

I'd go with the Metris. I bought a Sienna and now I have buyers remorse. The Sienna feels stuffier and less comfortable, despite having better seats. This guy is trying to sell his van but when you ask reasonable questions he gets offended and doesn't really answer you. Typical for a German car guy though. Lol.

@@corypitt1387 yea I've test drove pretty much every minivan there is. The Metris is taller and it can tow. The Sienna feels squashed. The Metris was designed from the ground up as a Van. It is very rugged. You can put a few goats in the Metris and mop it all up when you are done. The Sienna and most other minivan/crossover uses car-like frame. Just get snow tires if you are worried about rwd. I hope they come out with 4matic soon. I'm no Mercedes fanboy btw. Especially after dieselgate. I'd by a 4x4 Sprinter or Ford Transit if I had $60K. It's kinda huge though.

You forgot to mention that the rear windows don't open and the rear seats don't recline. Those are extremely important for long family road trips...The heavy duty overbuilt steel seats are designed to haul hundreds of passengers per day without breaking.

The metris is a nothing but cheap plastic with no amenities for a premium price of $45,000. Don’t hate on Doug demuro for telling the truth! I have the german predecessor of that van. My van is called "Mercedes Vito W639". I have the german basic version with a small 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine. Not fast but powerful. Many people say that van is bad but if You always care for it, the van will love You and work for You. I recomment changing all oils (lubricants) from time to time. Even the ones in the rear axle and the gear box. Also I change the filters very often. After about 10 000 miles.

How's the power (compared to minivan V6)? What about RWD traction in winter? I was keen on getting a Sienna AWD, but not too happy with space and engine.

Plenty power, turbocharged and 7 smooth gears. I'm always carrying at least 1400 lbs.

So basically you get penalized for performance and power with no benefit

does your van have carpet or are those all weather mats? I am very interested in getting this van in the passenger model, but I don't want carpet as I want to use it as a work van that can carry passengers when I need to. please reply back as I am very interested to know.

Yeah it has carpet and the mats are not the best but do work to keep sand/dirt from carpet and the mats are easy to take out to clean.

And the biggest advantage he has over this guy is that Doug has reviewed hundreds of cars, and dozens of minivans, so he knows exactly what the competition offers. Meanwhile this guy has no idea what other brands are like and what features they have. At one point he compared his new Metris to a 2nd generation Honda Odyssey(1999-2004). At like 15 years apart, I should hope the Metris is an improvement. What a joke

It is reliable, zero warranty issues so far. The rear 3 person seat is heavy, I use a dolly to get it close and then lift it in by myself. The middle 1 and 2 person seats aren't bad.

I agree with many of your points about the bitchy review. What he doesn't say is that it can carry 2500 lbs and pull 5000, which is a consideration for a work van and if you want to trick it out.

He is nearly crying while talking come on, these are not even good things, these are things that you find in any van, you are listing all the things that Mercedes luckily kept same and did not make it even worse, any owner of even the worst vehicle will try to justify their purchase and tell everyone else to get it, sorry man

Classic ... this is not designed to carry children, it's a utilitary van with seats, if you want a real Mercedes ,,minivan" you would choose a V Class my friend, frankly that lanky tall idiot did not reviewed the V Class ,,Why?" you might ask...because he knew that people might figure out that V Class is the actual family minivan not the Metris (Vito Tourer in Europe)

THANK YOU!!! For this reasonable review for this van. I've been tired of KZread reviews ripping on it. It really is alone by itself and not much is directly comparable. it is a commercial van that can carry people. it isn't full of bullsh** options that you don't need. no TV's well use a tablet, not very good nav a phone always works better and is easier to use and up to date. and yes I'm man enough to ask my wife for help with the seat. since I had a kid I have removed my current vans seats 0 times. I am in the market for a van that smaller than a sprinter and more capable Pacifica or Odyssey or sienna. it's so hard to look away from the Metris. 😀 I grew up with a Ford e150 passenger van and we got along fine without TV's 👍

@John, Big league for stupid people who can't use their own brain, logic and own experience. My dad owned 2 dealership and I have driven Yugo's all the way to $500K Bentleys, Aston Martins and Rolls Royce with solid gold components. You need to spend at least 6 months and 10.000 mile with any car to fully understand its good and bad points. Mercedes is one of those cars that feels like a new car even after you put on your first 80K miles. If you ever been in a major accident, you will appreciate Mercedes even more than your Toyotas or Hondas. There are reasons that these cars are expensive and sadly average people have no clue. As for Doug living in a nice house, yes, there are lots of drug dealers in Miami too that live in the best mansions...so what? Does that make them a distinguished member of the society or someone who's opinion is important?

@@meenam300zx Funny thing is, I bought a 2021 Metris passenger van recently and its being upfitted by Peace Vans in Seattle. I would never buy it as a family passenger minivan, but as a pop-top adventure van, with LiFePO4 aux battery upgrade, that will carry and sleep up to 4 people, fit in a garage, tow up to 5,0000 lbs, and gets decent gas mileage...well, that works for me. On the other hand, the "Car Wizard" mechanic just reviewed a 2019 Metris passenger van on his KZread channel and was not very complimentary.

God bless you for creating this video and I agree 100% that the annoying ugly lisp faced Doug has no clue and people think his two hours of visit with a car is justified as a good review. First of all, there is nothing in the Market comparable to Metris, I mean from a guy who has worked in body shops, this Van is solidly built and you can easily turned the front seats to swivel seats which no Mini Van in the market today offers. You can easily convert this to a camper and believe me turning a Sienna 2011 to 2020 is a challenge specially with the rails on the second row and forget about 2021-22 years as Toyota will void your warranty if you remove the second row. As for Odyssey, the second row seat movements is a joke and removing those and the rails is another nightmare. Metris was never designed as a family van but was made as a work van or a passenger van. For this Doug the Lispman to come on and downgrade this van shows how clueless he is. The Metris is very solid and well made and honestly is in the class by itself. For people that fault it for high price, its a Mercedes, you pay for safety and solid ride. Try seating on Sienna's seat for 8 hours of drive and then seat on Metris's chair...that alone is worth $20K to me as I don't need to visit my chiropractor. People think some stupid guy like Doug is the god and don't use their own brain and logic.

Remind me why the majority of comments shared here are personal insults? ml414skidoo does his best to put Doug’s review in perspective. Not once does he mention his name. That reviewer totally missed that the Metris is a commercial vehicle, from Sprinter group, and not targeted towards the passenger luxury van market. That would be the Vito. The Metris is excellent for it's use cases and customization.

Heard it too but he still compares it to passenger Van's. The only reason there's a Metris passenger model is the chicken tax. One of the things always used is that the seats don't fold into the floor. Being totally removal gives more cubic inches to a work van and allows Mercedes to re-convert the van back into a work van and avoid the chicken tax. To be fair he should it ld of compared it to the Vito.

How does it do in the snow tho? Aren't the Sienna rear seats more comfortable? I'm tryn to decide between this and the 2021 Sienna AWD. The Sienna seems more practical by far. The Metris has a better driving position and it's bigger. It can also tow a boat.

@@jerryp2433 so I drove the sienna for over a year and then ththe metris. The metris gets way better mpg.. The sienna getz around 12-17 mpg where as the metris gets 18-27 mpg.. The metris is bigger has more interior room and it looks classier. The sienna also over heats because its a v8 engine. The sienna has much better bells and whistles tho. So the console. The back up camera . The audio system is better but the car itself is not as good.I have driven the metris in the snow. And I honestly couldnt tell it was a rear wheel drive until I read about it

Doug was right. This thing should be a lot cheaper. A loaded Odyssey will be a thousand times better.

Yep I agree. Are you also saying that the Mercedes Benz metrics is a bad minivan?

If this isn't the worst modern van then what is plz?? Compared to ALL north American minivans. He is right. You butthurt at him criticizing a stupid van? Insulting him doesn't look too good 4 u bud.

Doug DeMuro a little message for you press read more and the message is there I love your channel Doug DeMuro but... I think there is worst minivans than the Mercedes Metris

Doug knows nothing about cars. He does not work on them (he does not really work at all). These vans are not designed to compete with minivans. If you want the Mercedes version of that, get the R series, especially the AMG -- it will destroy any Sienna or Odyssey. These vans, if you want something smaller than a Sprinter, and you liked the idea of the Chev Astro cargo, this is that van. Yes, it comes in passenger mode and many people outfit them as RVs or luxury vans because the engine has a lot of low end torque, its designed for commercial use, not necessarily soccer moms and dads. Doug simply does not understand that various cars are built for a purpose. In Europe, they are very high in demand (as the Vito), especially on the used market.

I love this van. I wish Mercedes would give us the European version of this. Doug DeMuro is your typical American reviewer. I don’t see many Europeans watching him. He needs to be a baseball commentator. His nickname is captain obvious.

That's why the mertris is the worst in the states, it stands no chance against it's rivals in the U.S market
