Here's why the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is the BEST mid-weight sport touring bike under $8,000

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's not often that a bike reminds me so heavily of my beloved Yamaha FZ6, but the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja 650 does just that. Unparalleled and sport-focused engineering marry brilliantly in this magnificent machine.

Very accurate assessment of the Ninja 650! I own a 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 and it is a well balanced bike. It also is a great upgrade bike if you started with a 300 or 400 cc bike. The torque right at the throttle is one of the things I love about the 650. Now it's not going to set your hair on fire like the H2 SX which I also own but the 650 is a fun and great bike! Great job on this review!

@@AzOm606 If you have never ridden in your life I would say no, but if you have ridden dirt bikes then I would say yes. Also if you are over 6 foot and weigh over 200 lbs I would say the 650 would be ok for a beginner bike. I am one who believes that if you have never ridden that starting on a 300 or 400cc bike is the best way learn and then move up to a 650cc bike and this is the perfect step up bike. Also if financially possible I recommend keeping the smaller cc bike because they are fun to ride once in a while...lol! I still have my R3 and it's fun to hop on it every once in a while!

@@AzOm606 Check out the Ninja 400 or z400, either would be a great bike for you to start out on and it wouldn't be much after being on either bike to step up to the ninja 650! Also I highly recommend taking the MSF course if you have not. Plus the ninja 400 or z400 are bikes that you might not want to get rid of but add like the ninja 650 or z650 to keep them company...lol!

I’ve had my Ninja 650 for about three months now, and I too find the stock windscreen to have a bit of weird buffeting effect when going at faster speeds, it feels like it’s in that awkward, in-between point, like some insecure angsty teenager that hasn’t yet figured out who they are, where it deflects wind from you, but not enough to actually shield you completely and seems to place the wind weirdly on my body. I’ve adjusted it in all its positions and felt the adjustments were meh, BUT! I purchased the Kawasaki accessory windscreeen that is a good deal larger, and find when I have it in the lowest setting, it is absolutely PERFECT for me. My helmet isn’t completely shielded from the wind, but that’s actually ideal since it puts those helmet vents to good use, but it does completely take the pressure off my chest. Side bonus to getting that accessory windscreen is that I find it seriously adds to the already sleek and elegant styling of the bike since it’s not simply straight up like the stock, but has a nice curvature to it. Shoot, I’d almost recommend the purchase JUST for the added aesthetic value!

Although I haven't ridden either, I've spent time sitting on both the 650 and the 400 and I definitely feel that the 400 is just a bit too small. The 650 feels right. And... The gas tank on the 650 is the perfect design for crouching down and resting on.

This was my first bike for 2 years! It's more than capable of doing anything a first or second bike rider would ever need. Other than the sound the bike makes I have zero bad things to say. I ONLY upgraded (z900) because I didn't want to invest mods when I knew I'd never get over the exhaust note. I could ride it HARD and get 50mpg (US) or a relaxing cruise at 60mpg.

Would you recommend it for someone who’s never ridden a bike before? I’ve never ridden a motorcycle (save for a Vespa back in my home country) but I live in texas right now and need a decent beginner bike. I wanted to start on a ninja 400 but I sat on one and I’m way too big for it (I’m 6’3” and 275 lbs) and I found the 650 fit better. I’m hesitant since it’s a more powerful bike and I’m very new as a rider.

  • @rodrick722

    @rodrick722

    Жыл бұрын

@@imthiazfaizal6288 To be honest, I think you’re going to be too big for the bike. I’m 6’4” but only 190lb. One thing you’ll learn once you begin riding is how important suspension is. My z900 is “designed” for a 180lb rider, but I can adjust the suspension. The Ninja 650 will be similar but non adjustable. You may need to look into cruisers or ADVs. Kawasaki Versys, Yamaha Tenere, Triumph Tiger, Suzuki VStrom etc. To answer your question: it’s enough power to terrify a new rider, but you’ll grow into it. With some respect shown to the throttle the speed of this bike won’t be what would kill you.

I had a Yamaha FZ6 too. Very smooth and well-balanced, but the revs at 80 would numb your butt after about 100 miles. Did your shift lever stick, too? I noticed that after the engine got hot, the shift lever would stop working. Turns out a shot of lithium grease was needed where the lever entered the case, about every other tank of gas. Anyway, I now have a Versys 650, also with the detuned Ninja flat twin. Great bike for long trips at 90-plus mph. Excellent engine, gets over 45 mpg at 80 mph, fully loaded with three cases. Unlike the FZ6, the Versys won't buzz your butt off at high speeds. On the other hand, the Versys won't do 138 mph. Versys tops out around 117.

..Good review !! just want to add that this bike has approximately 69HP and 69 ft lbs of torque. In India and some European countries, the hp is a litlle less. Also, the ABS models will have an ABS badge on the front fender. And one last thing, the wind screen is 3 positon adjustable. I keep mine in the middle position which is perfect for no wind buffeting at high speeds. I've had my bike up to 120 mph but it will top out at 128 or 129. Supposedly it will do 0 - 60 between 3.5 and 3.9 secs and the 1/4 mile in 11.8 secs all depending on the rider of course..

What was your observation about them? Especially since they are of the same budget as those on your Fz6r? Can you compare the two? Or if you've been on the outgoing model (Er-6f) which suffered from the same problem, did you notice any improvements on the forks on this bike ? Kindly share your thoughts. As always shout out from Kenya. (The only country in the world that exports presidents)👌👌😁

Take 1604 west to Bandera road “hwy 16”, ride it abt 30 min to Medina, then get on fm 337 towards leaky tx. You’ll think you’re in West Virginia.

That said, once I saw the 2019 Ninja, I was taken, and traded in my 2018, but everything I said about the 650 is true of the 1000 too, except you sure use more fuel. lol But the ZX1000 handles even better than the 650. They're both beautiful machines and if money wasn;t an issue, I would have kept the 650 too. I'd have no problem highly recommending both bikes.

@@madmyro You will be slightly more likely to drop a 650 if/when you come to a stop awkwardly than on a 250-400 simply because the 650 is like 40-50 lbs heavier. The power probably wouldn't be an issue. IMHO learning on a lightweight bike is better, but it kinda depends. If you plan to crush a lot of freeways the 650 might make more sense. If you wanna rock twisty back roads, the ninja 400 will actually likely be faster. I'm faster on my 300 than most of my friends on bigger bikes. On a twisty road that is.

There are great roads for riding just north of San Antonio in the "Hill Country." It's a very popular region for bikers. You MUST get out of the city, because there is too much traffic and the roads are basically straight. But as soon as you get out of the city to the north, there are really fun roads for riding.

Nice review 👍. I have the Ninja 400 ( tons of fun and I love it !! ). It’s not the first bike that I’ve ridden but it’s the first bike I’ve owned. I always assumed the Ninja 650 was just a more powerful version of my 400 but you say the riding position of the 650 is upright ? I would describe the riding position of my 400 to be a semi-crouch, somewhere between the more aggressive crouch of a 600 class super sport and an upright naked sport. I’m debating on what my next bike should be between the Ninja 650 or the 636. I will most likely get the 650 because it’s more comfortable to ride and less expensive. ✌️ out

well the bars are high compared to a zx6r but the stance on the 650 is more aggressive compared to something like a Mt07 or any bike of that nature. the feel and power is very similar to your 400 its just the bike is bigger so it has another 250cc worth of power and a little bit more room for the rider.

If only the Ninja 650 had a 4cyl engine to sound bad ass. I have this bike and hate the exhaust sound even with an aftermarket one. They just don't sound like a real sport bike. I know it's not a sport bike but doesn't hurt if It did like the Ninja 1000 or the CBR650R. A bit more power doesn't hurt either.
