Here's why a used MacBook Air is a fantastic value!
Ғылым және технология
A few short years ago MacBook Airs were overpriced and outdated. Now, however, with the classic silver bezel model discontinued and newer ones taking market share, these older models are becoming a great value used MacBook option for a lot of people. If you're shopping for a cheap used MacBook for school or light productivity, especially if you're considering a unibody MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air is worth a look.

Is good to buy one then buying a macbook pro ?
I am a die-hard 11 inch MacBook fan. So when buying a MacBook last year, I chose a early 2015 model with 4gigs of ram and 256gigs of storage for about 450 bucks. Now thinking of it, that’s a HORRIBLE PRICE
I updated a 13 inch unibody MacBook Pro mid 2012 with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD. It works great! I didn’t know it could hold dual SSDs! I’d love to see you update one with that. Luke, bravo overall: Great channel, great communication skills, great angle with used frugal mac strategies! You fill an excellent niche. Gratitude for all your work, Luke! ❤️👍🏼👏🦅👈🏽
I loved my macbook air. The keyboard, battery life, and size just made it wonderful to use. It was just so good to use considering what its specs were.
Thank you Luke for the video, which I watched on my 2015 MacBook Air! Purchased it from a university student who had just purchased a 2019 MacBook Pro and sold it to me for $350...Core i5, 8gb ram, 256 ssd, in immaculate condition. I upgraded the SSD to an OEM 512 SSD and loving my move from Windows to Mac OSx! Hoping to get a few more years out of this MBA. Again, thank you!
I have this 2017 MacBook Air that I have used to edit many of my videos, it's not the quickest, but it gets the job done!
Yes to the mid 2012 MBP! I have one and it'll be great to see what they can do
Im currently using 2017 mba which is almost the same machine as 2015 air and it stil works perfectly. Im a research assistant at university and using air for light photoshop ( architectural design posters, small editing) , small cad files ,light 3d modeling and for writing articles and my thesis. It is still a laptop for daily tasks, students and academics 👍
Appreciate that you actually go on ebay and get into the nitty gritty details of the current market.
Please do! I'd love to see how 13'' MBP would perform with 16gb of ram and dual ssds!
I took your advice and bought into this sweet deal. Just a scratch or two, but everything works perfectly and battery life seems to be great. I appreciate your research and advice. As usual, you're spot on. My first Mac laptop!
Currently using mid 2012 11" Air and been absolutely loving it. the thin and lightness of it is really great and currently getting around 3+ hours of use from a single charge, which is decent for an 8 year old machine. (i think when it was new it has 5 hr of battery life? not sure though)

Great video!
Just got a refurbished 16gb 2017 13’ Pro for 330$. Definitely one of the computers to buy from ebay rn on a budget.
Yeah I do agree.... Because I do have this since it was launched (late 2014) and it runs me decent along with my iMac 4K. Getting it used today is an even better value 👍🏻👍🏻
You just ran through a comparison of my two main MacBooks I use on a regular basis. I have a 2015 Air w/ 8GB / 120 SSD that I found on eBay about a year ago for $325, and I have a 2012 MacBook Pro upgraded to 16GB and 500GB SSD. The Air lives in my backpack and goes to meetings with me, basic office machine, the Pro sits on my desk connected to an external monitor with an external keyboard, mouse and trackpad. I find no wanted for performance on anything I would do on these machines. (I have a work owned Mac Pro 2013 on my desk at work at is super under used)
Good video Luke!
I got a late 2012 MacBook pro 13" unibody in 2016 brand new almost at the end of its lifecycle. Upgraded it to 16 gigs of ram and a 1TB sshd out of the box. Runs like a dream on Catalina. Planning on upgrading to 2 SSD's.
I just picked up a 2015 11" Air with an i5, 128gb, but most importantly 8gb of RAM for only $250 cash (Craigslist). Super happy with this little guy. It is my second Mac (I have a maxed out 2015 DG 15" Retina). The body is a little beat up, but the keyboard and screen are good (only one little dead pixel. Barely noticeable). Pretty impressed with the performance. Thanks for the great videos, Luke!
My wife has that exact MBA from late 2013 with 4GB of RAM. She's used it almost every day for the last 7 years, uses it all day to teach remotely on Zoom and loves it. It's an astonishingly reliable workhorse and I'll be hard pressed to get her to replace it, when it eventually is no longer getting updates. What you need to get work done, Vs what you want to brag on reddit forums, is often vastly different.

That’s where they shine.. durable and reliable. I have the newer M1 MacBook Air and two years later still blown away.. never has gone slow and battery lasts like 24 hours of non stop video playback. Amazing machine and no moving parts either.
I've bought recently MB air 2017 in fantastic condition with 256gb ssd for only 480 bucks and now im happy with it. Thanks!

I just jumped from windows to MacOS, an early 2015 A1466 is what I using, it was a little pricey but runs Catalina. Planing to use it for the next two years and then get one of the new ARM based Macs. Great video. Thanks

I got the M1 Air and no joke this thing has never gone slow. I got the base 8/256 and it’s been amazing. Best speakers and screen I’ve ever seen too. Super worth the money if you can find one new still. I’m glad I just saved and got one new. The ones that are well taken care of don’t end up on eBay lol people hang onto them for sure.
Yes, do the maxed out, 16 GB RAM, for the data double (from OWC), which is a 4 TB + 4 TB SSD = 8 TB combined of storage*. And maybe replace the battery with NuPower 2.5 inch SSD / HDD Alternate option for storage: 2 TB + 2 TB = 4 TB

that same 2015 macbook air is my daily driver and it works like a charm. Great battery life great performance with i5 and 8gb ram and i can enjoy a good keyboard and lots of ports (dongle free). The only issue i will say is the display it does the job but terrible viewing angles.
I love your vids your one of people The Who got me into MacBooks. I subscribed to you in 2018 because your humor and you knew what you where doing and yes max out a 2012 MacBook Pro cuz that the one I'm watching this on :)
Yes, please do a build video of a maxed out 2012 mbp 13”
I have a 2012 11" macbook air 2ghz i7 i use for travel - design/movies on the go etc. Upgraded the ssd with a faster 500gb owc ssd and it flies. Great little travel machine - perfect for planes and abroad
You can upgrade the storage on the macbook air to something faster than the stock SSD and bigger for a modest cost maybe $20-30 and get substantial gains in performance, somewhat negating the argument that the unibody macbook pro is more upgradeable.

Excellent channel and smart businessman
So I’m a Apple device user and want to purchase my first MacBook so I decided to get a used one for the time being and also not break the bank. Love this video it gave me a lil clarity if I should or should not buy the MacBook Air 13” 2013. I been using my friend’s for the year now (same model and year) and had no problems with it so I went ahead and I got mine for $315 good working no condition and little to no scratches/dents. I’m happy with this purchase
Loves the BG music, Luke, good work!

WE LOVE your videos and your channel Luke! One question - do you have a video on what is the best mac for fast video editing? Just 1080 and I movie but wanted to hear your thoughts! Cheers! and keep up the amazing content! You're tremendous!
Thank you for giving this underrated MBA machine love, not into the unibody Pros though. I purchased my 2017 MBA just a couple months ago. I got it brand new for $749 (although I don't need it). I have always wanted this iconic design in my collection, and I am so happy with my purchase. I own several newer model MBAs including a 15' MBP 2019, I use them for different things. However, I use this MBA 2017 everyday, I also use it at nights as a sleep machine, and I am fine with the screen resolution when surfing/typing during the day. Edit: Another thing, due to the pandemic and the need for computers with stay at home and school work, the prices of used units have not depreciated. I have noticed a jacking of prices on ebay for this MBA and the 11'. After the pandemic, I hope the prices go down. Greed is so disappointing.

I really like your videos 👍
Just upgraded my mom's old windows xp computer that she's been using for atleast 15 years finally to a macbook air 2017 - I got an excellent deal, i5 with 8GB of ram for 299! It's an amazing laptop and she loves it!
Great design.
I have both of these machines...My MBP is my everyday machine with 16gb ram and 2tb of storage across 2 ssd's. My "out and about" machine is the 2013 MBA but i've slapped a 500gb NVME ssd into it. Love them both and will keep them til they die!!
I managed the newly listed buy it now on eBay and got lucky to find a MacBook Pro 13 2014 for 300 it’s worth shopping and very good advice in this video Luke keep up the good work
Love your content and am a +1 curious in a maxed out unibody MBP.
Good video as always , hey about de lamination problem , do you know about a posible fix when it’s already happening, keep the excellent work !
Yes do it PLEASE !!! I have one MAXED OUT it get a bit slow when you have MULTIPLE CHROME TABS, VIDEO & PHOTO EDITING
Luke this would be a great vid please do it 👌🏻
my main problem with the unibody mbp is just how heavy it is. lugging it to school makes my backpack really heavy. so I would pick up a MacBook Air if I had a little bit more money.
I’m still on a 2015 13” i7 Air and it’s my only computer. I got it in 2016, yes I could’ve bought a used Pro but I was a noob and I also wanted warranty and the best battery life, it was amazing how long it lasted brand new and still does

Yes I would love to see a video about maxing our a unibody macboook pro
Chunky? Chunky was my "Wallstreet" PowerBook G3 back in 1999, LOL!
Hey Luke, I love all of your videos. I repair and resell MacBooks on the side right now, and I recommend checking out Facebook marketplace instead of just eBay to find some interesting and unique deals that works make for some great video titles, such as something like a $50 MacBook that takes a $20 SSD to get up and running. I feel like videos of this nature are fun to make, and would do well. Just a suggestion! I've found some crazy stuff, such as 13" and 15" retinas for $200 with dead batteries, ect.
I already maxed out a MacBook Pro mid 2012 and it runs great. You should do it
I got a Macbook Air 2018 for a cheap price in good condition some time ago and it's my first ever MacOS device and I'm in love. I will definitely upgrade to Pro one day.
4:47 I love the music
Built a m2012 unibody mbp from parts. The part that took me the longest to source out was a 2.9GHz i7 logicboard which I got from a mini lot on eBay for ~$175. Currently waiting on a modded airport card for ac WiFi.
Luke you should totally do a video about maxing out a 2012 unibody. And totally not because I bought one a few hours ago to get into the apple environment after spending three hours watching your videos for advices.
I literally just maxed out a 13" Mid-2012 Pro with 2.9GHz i7 with 16GB of RAM and a combo 500GB SSD+500GB HDD, new SMP battery from Shenzhen, and gifted it to my girlfriend for her birthday with a fresh Catalina install. A smart display manager found online allows me to runs the "meh" LCD display at 1440x900 (instead of native 1280x800) and even if it's still not great, I found it much more usable. Please do a max out of that little beast, I've been really amazed of the final result and I'm eager to see what you can do with the same project! Love your contents, you really gave me inspiration to tackle that upgrade project!
100% yes. You should do a “maxed out” macbook pro video
Ofc you should do a bid about maxing out a mid 2012 unibody
My mid 2012 mbp died and it's my dream project to replace the internals and max it out with a ssd raid 0
Yes max it out I would definetly watch that
I have a mid 2012 “15 unibody I’m going to keep using it until it dies !
I have a mid 2012 unibody MBP with a 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM. It is a bit slow even with an SSD upgrade. It isn't all beat up and still works fine though it is badly outdated
Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, do make a video on that old machine and maxed out. Love from India ❤️
Would love to see you max out a 13" unibody model. You could even raid 0 it if you install el capitan or sierra and it will fly 👌
I just bought a MBA 2015, 8 Gb, 128GB SSD for €200. Except for some minor cosmetic scuffs, the computer is in great condition. I was expecting that at least the keyboard to have some slow keys, but no. Fantastic value for a light weight and durable computer on the go. I had this video in the back of my mind when I hit that buy button.
I bought a 2009 Air last year and it was a great deal considering they were going for 250 and I got mine for 110.
7:00 i think this is something that’s last on people’s minds during these times
Plz do the max 2012 unibody. That’s a must watch
I patched my late-2010 MacBook Air to Catallina, and it's a beautiful 4gb 256ssd smooth running machine. Truly incredible how far this Apple dollar has travelled. I also keep it in like-new condition so it's really a perfect little throwback to earlier computing days.

How smooth does Catalina run on your late 2010 MacBook Air. I’m thinking of patching Catalina on my late 2011 11” MacBook Air 4GB of Ram but I estoy it might run worse than on MacOS. Maverick.
I love my MacBook Air early 2015.....paid $231.84 for it and it has 8Gb RAM. Came with a wireless mouse and I have it hooked in to my Lenovo monitor. Great machine!
You should do a Hackintosh Build Guide with used parts under like $500. I'm sure it would be beneficial to a ton of people.
Love your site. Ive gone thru two replacement screens. Can you recommend a quality vendor to buy another?
I just got the 2020 MacBook Air and I love this thing, I only have to get used to the keyboard tho
I still use my 2016 MacBook Air today! It’s a great laptop for everyday use. Maybe next year I will get the “new” Air.
Still rocking my 13inch early 2011 Macbook Pro. Upgraded to SSD and 8GB RAM a few years ago still a solid machine. New 2020 MacBook Air has me thinking though... Any recommendations on best year/model to split difference between 2011 and 2020?
I'm still rocking a late 2010 MacBook Air which is like "as new".... It's still quick and perfect for general work and browsing the web. I still have it connected to my Wacom Cintiq 21UX display. I've taken extremely good care of it and if you were to look at it now you'd think it was brand new! :)
Please upgrade a 13" mid-2012, I just finished upgrading my gf's 13" from a hard drive to an SSD. just need to upgrade the ram and it's good to go!
I’d watch a video where you fully deck out a 2012 unibody and compare it to like a 2014-2015 Air.

Love watching these videos Luke. You’re doing a great job. Thank you.
Yes. Max it out!
I rebuild a 2017 i7-8Gb for my daughter. It had some troubles, and needed a new battery. I got it for a steal because it would not boot with a cracked screen. I still had some stock to rebuild and she is excited, she had a 2010 unibody that was tired. she is now rocking a 2017 i7-8gb-512gb ssd with a new battery.
I just bought three MBA - 2012, 2013, and 2014. Paid $50 each for the ‘13 and ‘14, and $80 for the ‘12 which was pristine and in original box, but needed a battery, which costs $25. So simple to upgrade the SSD for $30. All of them run Windows better than many PCs using Boot Camp and you can run Ventura with OCLP.
