Here's why 1937 "Specimen" Proof Sovereigns are both important and interesting
In 1937 the Royal Mint created 5001 (thanks Jester) plain edge specimen sovereigns with the portrait of George VI. They are unique and interesting for many reasons.

I froze this @5:40 and MARVELLED, as i always do, @ the sheer artistry and workmanship of the designers, engravers and ALL the workers at the British Royal Mint.Over CENTURIES they have produced some of the most regal, dignified and facially ACCURATE portraits of our Monarchs. The talent is breathtaking!!.
Beautiful coins. Its easy to understand why Sovereigns capture the imagination...great video.
Those four George VI sovereigns may be the best of the lot. Has always been a dream of mine to have one.
I was born in 1951 so any proof coin with a George VI obverse is at the top of my list. It's a shame he didn't make it on more sovereign coins during his reign because his portrait is the best of all the monarchs IMO. Victoria young head is my next favourite with Elizabeth's first portrait a close third. I like that plain edge too as a change of pace. Fascinating video, Mr. Numi.

You're right about George VI's strikingly handsome profile (Thomas Humphrey Paget) - not unlike his brother's profile - would have looked gorgeous on sovereigns.
Thanks for cheering me up, have a great day
Amazing very well presented video
Beautiful coins, love this set
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful coins
I would love one of those coins for sure!
Thanks for sharing history great story
Magnificent!
Stunning absolutely amazing I really want the set I also want to collect the £5 sovs
From what I've read, there were 5,001 sets created (according to CCGB 2016). The odd one set was struck for the King himself...how cool (and expensive) would it be to acquire that set with proper supporting documentation? Great video Numi! The overall quality of your videos has really reached the next level and the standard format for each is very appealing.
