The best tow rig is the one that's paid for and no bill comes each month. My 2011 F150 5.0 will pull anything I can hook it to and it's paid for. Same for trailer. I bought my 16ft tandem used for 900 dollars Back in the 90s a 200hp V8 truck would pull all the same things we pull today

@@Bpf1893 Love it. Excellent power. I towed a fully loaded Uhaul two-axle, 6'x12' trailer from MN to GA and had a bunch of payload in the truck. I averaged 15-6 mpg while doing 70 mpg. It was amazing. From the general quietness of the cabin, the excellent sound system, the overall ergonomics and material choices, and the room to stretch out the Silverado was a downright lovely place to spend 1380 miles with a trailer by myself on the road. I bought the truck in late May, and have 4500 miles on it. I honestly thought I would miss my 2013 two-door Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary 6 spd. Nope. Not even a little bit. The Jeep had an 18.5 gallon fuel tank, and the Silverado has a 24 gallon diesel tank. I filled the Jeep up at least twice a week - usually more. On the other hand I fill the Silverado up once a week, and I have fuel to spare. Hell one highway trip I went 400 miles, and only burned half a tank... that's 33 mpg. I am so glad I didn't get either of the V-8s.

Thank you for the video! Great points about mirrors, to many people are towing trailers and they do not have adequate mirrors for what they tow.

I see your list left off one of the most popular mid sized suv....the jeep wrangler unlimited...I've towed with one for going on 10 years now and went way more than I should have and it's never skipped a beat,I really enjoy your videos and wish more people would watch and do their homework before towing. I'm a truck driver for a living and see alot of sketchy stuff going down the highway, and I'm even baffled about how many professionals don't have a clue until they have a problem or an officer of the law has to have a conversation with them.

There at about the 4:35 mark you mentioned those four pin wiring connectors,..made me think of how annoying those can be, when they get dust, dirt and corrosion in them. I prefer the 7 pin connection and use an 7 to 4 pin adapter,...seems to work a lot better and easier to keep clean. Don't forget the dielectric grease on those connectors too.

Not bad. Missed a few things to be a "Pro". However, for newbs this was a good start. :). Appreciated the walk around and the pull over and re-secure advice. Seen plenty of people on the road not secured properly. Seen plenty of you tubers doing pack ups on a variety of trips, say their good byes and drive away with stuff open or not tied down. lol.

Can we get some information on trailer brakes? I'm seeing SUVs say that if you tow over 1,000lbs you need trailer brakes, which applies to towing a SXS. But most small trailers for SXSs won't have trailer brakes??

Yes you're right, I had a 17 foot landscape trailer and it started to rust, as it just sat there outdoors. I wonder if the problem started when the steel wasn't properly prepped for paint when it was built? Some of the powder coat paint just flakes off with rusty steel underneath, and makes it look so bad!

Small caveat: The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Durango tow 7400 max with the 5.7, and the SRT Durango tows 8700 pounds.

If you read the law 2 straps are good up to a certain weight also he is in Canada but they share most of the same rules and regs. Also there is a difference in if you are CDL as in being paid or if you are towing your own. Having said that I always over strap as if you ever need to lock up you do not want something landing on you. It has 4 points of tie down but I don't know if that is 2 straps on each wheel or one strap that ties front and back.

I'd also like to see more detail about WHERE to strap on to on a SxS. The manual points to the lower A-arm where it attaches to the frame, but I've never seen anyone actually fasten there. I've heard the tire-straps are great, but I don't have those. I have plenty of good 1,000-lb-rated ratchet straps, though.

I got a 19' new body Silverado 1500 WT 4X4, reg cab, long box, 4.3 V6. I tow a Aluma 5410, custom longer bi fold car hauler ramp added on the back of the trailer. Truck is rated to tow 7,700 pounds with 810 pounds of tongue weight. The heaviest thing I've towed on the trailer so far is a 19' Harley Davidson Electra Glide Standard FLHT. Truck tows like nothing is even there and the trailer has had 0 affect on the handling of the truck.
