Here's what would happen if ALL humans completely disappeared

Throughout the first day of our absence, all of the fossil fuel power plants around the world would shut down in rapid succession without humans around to re-fuel them with coal or oil. These shutdowns would lead to electrical blackouts across the globe, causing our world to rapidly go dark, grid-by-grid. What other consequences would there be if there were no humans on Earth?

Almost as if it would have been better had our species not come to be. Almost as if the earth wouldnt even have all this shit happening if we didnt even exist. Humans are the actual scourge of the earth. Sadly most think global warming is what ruins this world. Yet its our own ambition and greed. It will consume us and our future generations if we dont all stand together and focus on the longevity of our species. As long as we as a species can overcome greed we can do anything. The likeliness of that is slim sadly

Earth will recover, and keep on ticking along just fine for billions of years... Until the Sun goes into its Red Giant phase. So yeah, in the grand scheme of things, whether or not you take Climate Change seriously is irrelevant!!! Earth will recover come what may... But WE on the other hand, will most certainly render ourselves extinct! And that's really the point about this crisis! It's just another nihilistic tendency of SOME of us, who for some reason, wish to bring about an end to our species... Knowingly or otherwise... Anyway, whether we choose to elect mass suicide or not, I'm just glad that no matter what we do, Earth WILL survive!

And our footprint mostly did damage. look at what happened to Chernobyl and how nature fought back and persisted. Despite its damage, there even appeared more birds. Nature doesn’t need us, we’re destroying it rather than letting it bloom. Separating humans from nature even though we should be a part of it. The only reason things will get worse at first is because of the things we build for our sake.

I absolutely love this! As a biology teacher who recently retired after 31 years of both direct and subversive attempts to teach about conservation, biodiversity, evolution, and the resilience of life, I always reminded my students that extinction is an inevitable consequence of being alive in an evolving world,. So while one day we, like all of the life that preceded us, will fade into life's history, living things will persist and be just fine even if we are not.

One thing you didn't mention was learned behaviour. The ingress of wild species might take a few generations, and species that learned to fear humans gradually return. Nuclear reactors will eventually 'scram' and go cold, not explode. Degradation of houses would take considerably longer, there are plenty of real world abandoned examples. Highly doubt any plastic would last more than 100,000 years, let alone 100 Million. Rushmore would have eroded long before this. I really enjoyed this video, thank you.

And without this cool water the fuel rods will heat up to the point of melt down. Also diesel generators can’t run without air sooooo idk how you expect them to run “stored in water” .

Great video! One thing though, I am pretty sure that responsibly maintained reactors are designed to fail safely. That doesn't mean that all of them would just calmly turn themselves off, but I think there is pretty much no chance that every single nuclear reactor in the world will just overheat and explode in 10 days. I would be shocked if the majority did not have various backup generators and dead man's switches to shut down in a sustained period of no human input. Do you have a citation for that part of the analysis?

You saw what happened in Fukushima; the reactors did shut down but the failure of the diesel water pumps meant that the coolant water gradually overheated from residual heat until the hydrogen produced blew the top off the containment building and exposed the cores. There'd be no tsunami to knock out the generators in this scenario but the backup diesel store would only last a few days.

You look at instances of failure as if it’s the common place you learn barely about it then try to use it as it’s gonna happen maybe one reactor out of all if they all shut down would run into a problem and the resulting explosion would be so minor that it wouldn’t even be noticed Fukushima was also 10 years ago be have made a lot of strides with technology since then also and have learned from the Fukushima disaster I don’t think someone who can’t understand that the heat will dissipate and be a non issue due to the stopping of the reaction is a great source compared to the scientists who designed the systems and have had so much scrutiny on them from the minuscule amount of failures they have had over the years but hey most nuclear disasters happened due to human error not the automated systems hell there was evidence of a reactor happening in nature in a cave that didn’t cause an explosion or any issues but again get the bunker ready am I right.

@@thesilkygamer7332 Talk to the Asian countries currently objecting to the release of waste water from Fukushima whether they think it was a "tiny explosion" ! The control rods stop the neutron chain reaction but don't stop the heat from nuclear decay (about 6% of the total heat). According to Scientific America "NRC regulatory requirements for emergency power supplies is that they be available on the order of a month. You can render a plant in an acceptable condition within a few hours. However, heat is still being generated. If you had to stop, at any point, carrying away that heat, it would start building up again. Emergency cooling systems have to be available for weeks". And I doubt many can operate for weeks with absolutely zero human interaction. The average age of nuclear power plants in the US is 40, although I'm sure lessons were learned from Fukushima it is too late to make drastic changes to how most of those plants operate.

The nuclear explanation was a little wonky. Maybe it's the way he worded it, but that's not entirely accurate. The generators won't overheat and explode. The generators come online when there is a loss of grid power. The reactors will go in to shutdown mode and the generators will keep the pumps going, which cools the reactors. Eventually, the generators will run out of fuel, which stops the water from pumping, which makes the reactors overheat. Even then, most reactors probably wouldn't explode, they would melt down, causing the fuel to burn through their containment vessels and into the ground beneath the plant. This has many other horrible ramifications, but it wouldn't happen all at the same time, as there are several different kinds of reactors and containment systems which would behave differently.

  • @doggonemess1

A further bunch of notes: The satellites wouldn't fall out of the sky because of a lack of battery power. They use solar panels. They would fall out of the sky because all satellites have slowly degrading orbits. Some have fuel onboard to boost their orbits to prevent this. Eventually, they would all run dry and come back to Earth. Some satellites and the ISS would burn up within a decade, but many satellites are in higher orbits that degrade much more slowly. This would most likely take centuries, not decades. Rivets are used in some bridge construction, but not all. It's more likely that the concrete bridges would fail first. The Eiffel Tower is NOT made of steel. It's made of wrought iron, which is a very different alloy of iron. The Statue of Liberty has a wrought iron core paneled with copper sheets. Mt. Rushmore is maintained constantly. It's unlikely it would last more than a few hundred years without human intervention. Cracks in the granite have to be filled to prevent water from entering and cracking the rock during winters.

@@doggonemess1 Yeah the vast majority of reactors would automatically safely enter some kind of shutdown phase, though over the months and years the elements (particularly due to fires or natural disasters) would degrade the containment systems eventually leading to groundwater and air contamination in those areas from partial or total meltdowns. Even those that did explode it wouldn't be like a nuclear detonation- the steam pressure and hydrogen explosions would just fracture the containment shell releasing radioactive gasses. This is an interesting video but it does have some illogical areas based on how science and engineering works.

The rods won't explode per-se, but they will boil off the water (which also acts as a radiation shield) and then with no cooling water will burst into flame. In reality, the Earth doesn't even know nor care that we exist on its surface. Since its formation billions of years ago it has undergone and survived countless catastrophic events to reach the point it has today. We're merely a temporary virus on its surface, a skin rash, if you will. It'll continue it's journey through the galaxy for a few more billion years and that'll be that.

I like how even without us at this point we'd still just kill everything around 🙃

This is so optimistic, I cannot wait for this to happen; of course I will not be here to see it😏. Seriously though, This planet deserves something better than humans.
