Thalmor and Imperials that aren't flagged as essential are KOS.

As much as everyone (myself included) hate the Thalmor, I do wish we'd at least have the option to side with them and betray the Blades at the party. Surely someone in the Thalmor would have been studying everything about the Blades and thus be able to help you find Sky Haven Temple and read Alduin's Wall

@@4wilmoUntil the dragons start destroying the elven lands as well, them being impossible to kill for good without aiding the Dragonborn. It'd be incredibly foolish to let the dragons do as they please, even by Thalmor standards. At the very least the few sensible Thalmor would help defeat Alduin so the dragons can't be resurrected infinitely.

Haven't considered this angle. Stopping the dragons could have a similar effect to further demoralizing the Nordstrom, as well as earning them another incredible feat, like how they "stopped the Oblivion Crisis"

I'm always anti-Thalmor, but whenever Ondolemar says "They're few pleasures in life as fine as your company", I can't help but blush and giggle.

i could see repair/maintenance be a major lore reason. it'd be a lot easier to repair and replace parts on a traditional gun than it would be on a specialised laser or plasma technology gun that would require expertise. like it'd be harder replace the motherchip in a laser weapon, whereas you can just replace a part metal tube for your gun or just make a new gun that can use 9mm from basic metal scrap

The Thalmor we see in game are laughably evil, nazi inspired caricatures, I'm not contesting that. But at the same time, Tiber Septims conquest of the Summer set isles occurred during the lifetime of some Altmer, and the Empire doesn't have the Numidium anymore. Septim took over Tamriel with no justification other than might makes right, and a few hundred years later the people he conquered decided to do the same thing back to the Empire. Seems about as justified as Tiber's initial conquest was to me.

@@Masitu0031 Incorrect. It is "Cutting Room Floor" which adds removed content back into the game. That Thalmor area was intended to be in the game originally

I love Thalmor-themed missions. You can do this, peacefully help Grey-Manes and convince a guy on Solstheim to sell him stalhrim weapons and armor. You can just use your honey'd words to do all Thalmor missions in a different manner.

@@lonewalling938 You were supposed to be able to go to General Tullius and ask for the release of Thorald Gray-Mane, but in the vanilla game he will refuse no matter what due to either a bug or it being cut content, I cant remember which. There are mods which add the peaceful option back however. EDIT: Just an afterthought, last time I saw this topic raised there were a lot of people insisting you could do it in the vanilla game with no mods, so here is a quote from the wiki; "Although it was originally intended for the Dragonborn to be able to get written permission from General Tullius to have Thorald released, he will only deny your request, even if the Civil War has been completed."

If you meet him in markarth after the party he no longer greets you with friendly dialogue I did this on my high leveled Orc Shaman with much game completion and acting non hostile towards the thalmor, but him greeting me with an insult after the party ( which i left in a bloodbath ) made me tie the knot and murder him and his entourage. Even used ”Bend will” on the jarl and guards so they did it for me. imagine the political headache for general Tullius after that plotline

It's funny, I've had this conversation while WEARING a Talos amulet. Never broke in or turned him in though.

I like this a lot. Playing contradictions is very fun. Like a thalmor High King, or Not a stealth archer build.

I wouldve never known this by my own because Thalmor I see, Thalmor I kill, on all my runs...everytime, all day everyday.

don't know if I'm the only one who roleplays as Thalmor characters. don't get me wrong, I've got plenty of heroic characters but sometimes it gets boring. I know very well they are evil and in no way wish to apply their beliefs in real world context.

I often play a Thalmor Agent with my High Elf play throughs. Even using the Thalmor alternate life start where everything Stormcloak is auto hostile to me, which is even more dangerous and fun when you have immersive patrols active. My next planned play through as a Thalmor is a a melee stealth assassin type.

Yeah I get that playing an evil character doesn't at all mean that you're applying that in the real world. Personally, I just hate the Thalmor enough to always want to kill them, lol.

I would hope you wouldn't apply thalmor beliefs to a real world context. How would you even BEGIN to try destroying reality?

I think the game kind of punishes you for having anyone but Razelan cause the distraction. When you first arrive at the embassy Razelan is the only one outside with you apart from the guards basically saying "use this guy to cause a distraction". Especially with where he is seated in regards to the door, he's one of the first people you see when you enter. If you give Razelan a drink then he will happily cause a distraction at no one else's expense, but if you ask anyone other than him to cause a distraction via any other means its always due to someone's expense and you, or at the very least, I, felt super guilty afterward. After I explored all the options due to some sneakily placed quick saves I decided Razelan was the easiest, safest, and nicest distraction that didn't leave me feeling icky. ~ J

I'll be honest until I saw videos years after I played the game I never knew there was a way to cause a distraction by anyone other than Razelan. Love that there's more options, though I doubt I could ever bring myself to buddy up with the Thalmor to do it. Some things just feel dirty to even pretend to do.

That’s just mind blowing to me that this is really in the game after all the times I’ve replayed this quest. And oh my god Razelans last line was so hilarious.

I didn't even know he offered a quest, I killed him and his entourage on sight in front of the guards and payed my bounty to walk right out.

I knew you could help the Thalmor arrest Ogmund but I didn't know about the alternate distraction at the Thalmor Embassy. It's nice to know that I'm still learning new things about Skyrim over 11 years on.

I kinda like that the benefits of being a friend of the Thalmor are few because it makes sense. Their only concern is of themselves. And ordinarily, your character is ‘mortal’, which the Thalmor find so disgusting.

I remember doing a dark side run of Knights of the Old Republic and wondering just what kind of real benefit Revan gets from half of the evil choices? Yeah, the issue is that the Thalmor’s main mission isn’t exactly noble-hearted in the first place, unlike the Empire or Stormcloaks who have good intentions (ensuring unity in the face of α coming second war and resisting religious and cultural erasure, respectively) even if you disagree with their methods or other beliefs. Sorry, but Ondelemar is just about the closest you’ll get.

That would take all the fun out of tormenting them.

I have never done any of this. Maybe because that's the limit of it, but even my "evil" characters never side with the Thalmor in any way and always kill them on sight without exception. Maybe if they might be more open to recruitment and had more options, like Caesar's Legion in New Vegas it might be worth it for a type of evil altmer playthrough.

Dam thats crazy, when Ondolemar asked me to prove someone of talos worship i killed him and his guards and got a 30 gold bounty on told the markarth guards to let me go because i was the Thane.

I'm not a big fan of the Thalmor myself but there's a missed opportunity here on Bethesda's part, mostly for funsies. If you decide to side with the Thalmor in any way, you should be able to falsely accuse Razelan (or any minor npc) of being a Talos worshipper by planting a Talos amulet on their person with reverse pickpocketing, and reporting them to either Ondolemar, Elenwen, or any of the guards as part of the prank.

I slaughtered all of the thalmor at the place they keep Thorald gray mane after the parents send u to find him and then I went to markarth a bit later and after finding 1 talos amulet he started acting like my best friend lol

In lore it does sound possible considering just how powerful the Dragonborn is in lore.
