Greatest vehicle on the road! I have a XC90, XC70, S60, and a Corvette. My favorite car is the XC70! love the turbo 5 cylinder, Comfort and lasting durability. The Haldex is 2nd generation and if you don't go places that use the AWD, the front tires wear out faster. Like you said, the power transfer depends on conditions. Looking at the front tires it's probably a 90/10 distribution... Volvo for Life

I've owned 5 Volvos since 1978, a 1974 240 for 9 years, 2Vvolvo 940 turbos in the 80's and 90's an s80 i6 for 8 years from 2014 to 2022 and finally a 2020 s60 momentum I just bought. The following is one of my volvo stories. In 1980 I was driving my 1974 Volvo 240, in Vancouver in December of that year on a really cold icy morning. Black ice everywhere and supper slippery. I had a head on collision at low speed, (under 15km) on a slight hill, I was heading down hill. Before hitting the mini cooper I let my foot off the brake so my car would hit the mini with my bumper level and my hood would not get damaged. I pushed the mini cooper about 5 to 10 feet, it was slippery. The damage report? The mini, crumpled front end, undrivable. The 1974 Volvo 240, with that rubber covered bumper. NOT A SCRATCH. The shock absorbers on the bumper took the full force of the crash and all I had to do was pull the bumper off, stretch the shock absorbers for the bumper and put the bumper back on. Great car. It's worth noting that the 1974 240 had a great bullet proof engine, the famous B20 series that had a multi year run through many configurations.

I grew up with Volvos when I lived in Sweden as it still is one of the top selling cars and there's everything from standard cars to sleepers. now I own a 2004 V70 D5. Really great cars and when you outrun like BMW, Merc and Audi drivers with a family car it is absolutely priceless. 😅. Also worth to know is that the 5 cylinder engine started its life as the new 3L straight 6 in 1990 dedicated to the 960 cars and then in 1992 it became a 5 cylinder engine. This engine type was developed with the help of Porsche... So there you go. 👍 Love the fact you all have Volvos as it seem they're understated as performance cars.. possibly due to the sleeper factor and it is used by families. 🤔 Keep up the god work.

@The Massive Prophet You are so wrong! Volvo Cars head office, product development, marketing and administration functions are mainly located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Volvo is a international car manufacturer like Mercedes, BMW and so on.... The company's MAIN car production plants are located in Gothenburg (Sweden), Ghent (Belgium), Chengdu and Daqing (China), while engines are manufactured in Skövde (Sweden) and Zhangjiakou (China) and body components in Olofström (Sweden)

As one of the people trash-talking the new Supra in Hanson's video (not the video's fault - Hanson did a good job on the presentation of the car), you aren't wrong. Anything that ain't a crossover sounds good in my book. Even though it isn't anything the Supra should be in my book, at least Toyota tried, and for that we should be grateful. Now all we need is more wagons!

I love my V50, but I agree with you, the community is what makes it amazing. I went to a Euro meet (mostly Volvos and Saabs though, with a few Porsches/old Maseratis/Fiats/Audis etc.) up at Lime Rock a few months ago and literally not even 30 seconds after I parked the car, a swarm of people came around to look at it (bone stock black on black '05 V50 T5 FWD, stock everything including the curbrashed wheels I bought it with) and started flipping out because they saw that it was a manual. I spent probably two hours just talking to lots great people about a stock Volvo, and gained some pretty valuable knowledge about my car. What's funny is that my dad brought his Cobalt Blue 997 Porsche 911 C2S to the meet as well, and from what we could tell, more people went to look at my old, boring-looking, rusty(ish) Volvo than his sparkly Porsche. You all are a big part of what makes these cars a joy to own.

  • @markkibbe1802

    @markkibbe1802

    5 жыл бұрын

@@Acrum99 Yeah, but only kind of. Ford isn't the best with engineering sometimes. However, the car is basically a detuned wagon version of the Euro Focus RS (2nd gen I believe. The one with the five pot turbo), with a magnificently understated Volvo wagon body. Plus, it's not all Ford, as the engine, drivetrain, body, and interior were all done in-house by Volvo. As far as I'm aware, Volvo tweaked the platform a bit for safety as well. Mine's a 6 speed T5, so it kind of rips for what it is (lots of fun in corners too), plus it weighs next to nothing for a safe wagon (3300 pounds or so, in T5 manual FWD form, around the same weight as my dad's aforementioned 997 C2S). The car has only 80,000 miles on it, and cost me far less than what a V70 T5 with a manual would have cost in the same shape with similar mileage (A V70R, while I really wanted one, would have been way above my price range, even with a lot of miles in questionable shape. It would have been more affordable with an auto, but for me, stick shift or die). Plus, it weighs far less than that car, tires and brakes cost less, and because of the lighter weight, it will need those items less often, and get better mileage to boot (It will crack 40 MPG on the highway if you drive at 65-70mph in 6th). It's my only car, so it needs to be reliable(ish) and cheap to fix, two things that the VR is not (The V50 isn't really either, but it's better than those cars with the adaptive suspension and Haldex failures). With that said, the particular V50 I bought had been maintained meticulously (oil changes every 2,500 miles, for example), so it's been nothing but smiles for the year and a half I've owned it. Plus, in base form, there isn't a lot of aftermarket support for the V70, while the V50 has a plethora of parts and support in the aftermarket because it shares a platform and drivetrain with the C30. So basically, I bought it because it was cheaper, had been maintained meticulously, and the light weight and aftermarket support meant that I could use the money I saved on buying it over a V70 to make it better than that car in every way. Plus, it would suck less fuel, which was big with my long commute, saving me even more money to improve upon the car.

Don't get me wrong, you will cry multiple times, but it will be worth it. btw I drove without oil for a solid 15 minutes because the cam seal blew out, but after that nothing broke. this proofs the 2.4 is the absolute chad of engines out there.

About a million years ago (ok, 30-ish years ago) I had a 1971 142E - it was the "halo car" of the day - 140HP electronic fuel injected B20 - and it was a great car. Anyway, I had a problem with it that I didn't know what to do with it at the time - I took it in to the dealer, and they gave me a loaner car - a (then) brand new 780 to drive... so I had an over 15 year old Volvo, and they dropped me the keys to a $35k (in 1980s $$) car to drive for the day - and they knew what was up and fixed it in half a day... unreal. I normally do all my own - but knowing how well they take care of folks in general is definitely a thing.

Maybe does and don'ts for driving a Volvo R or any awd Volvo? More content behind the wheel mixed in with the wrenching and explanation of mods? I have only owned my 07 S60R GT for a year now and how to drive these cars fast without worrying about Everything would be appreciated. Love your channel and I for one love the new Supra! I'm not 100% sure about a Haldex 3, but on a Haldex 4-5 the the car is biased FWD 100% of the time in normal conditions. The driveshaft going to the rear differential is spinning but the rear wheels wont be turning. The Haldex system contains multiple clutches. The Haldex pump pressurizes an accumulator and maintains this pressure keeping the clutches apart, and upon wheel slip where AWD is needed, the accumulator dumps and clutches engage=>AWD.

Help! Super disappointed in MPG. Just replaced the engine in this ‘05 XC70 and the best I’m seeing is 18mpg. I would expect at least 22 with moderate highway speeds. It is back in the shop today (3/7/24)where the engine was swapped out to take care of an issue with the service work done on the Haldex. And I’ve asked for a diagnostic and some exploratory work to see if there is something amiss. I just added a treatment of SeaFoam to clean injectors. Any suggestions?

Great channel! I currently have a 2005 Volvo V70R. (136k miles) It replaced my 1991 MBZ E300 I loved this wagon too. The reason I sold it was it was becoming unreliable and my monthly average cost was not much less than a new car payment. The avg. was &340/month) I then discovered the V70R and wow what a find. I’m a convert to Volvo. So far very dependable. Some routine cost which were mostly under warranty. I had the 7 yr /100k policy) So how about a series on wagons.

I imported my 2013 Volvo XC60 into Jamaica from Canada. The whole shipping process took about 2.5 months. As soon as the vehicle came through the port gate it refused to restart. An auto electrician diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. He agitated the pump and got it working again until a replacement could be imported. Since then I have had tons of electronic issues: - windows won’t power up; - odometer screen goes blank - vehicle shuts down on its own - parking brake partially released symbol comes up - etc Since we do not have a Volvo dealer in Jamaica it’s a bit hard to get these issues resolved . Any chance that this car could be remotely diagnosed? If so, who is authorized to do that?

I’ve been looking for another vehicle because my current one is on its last leg. I ran across a channel( can’t recall his name) but he had a xc70. I really liked the look of it so I began researching it and eventually found a blog from a guy that turned his xc70 into an overland vehicle. So awesome looking. I found a used one nearby for a really low price. She has told me a couple of things that needs fixing but I was wondering what things to be on the lookout for with a used Volvo?

Volvos do use PSA-Diesels. My S40 from '06 has practically a 2.0 l Peugeot HDi Diesel and the chassis is from the Ford Focus II. Basically not a real Volvo anymore. A Peuforvol or something. Well there are D3 and D5 fivebangers of Volvo Diesels. The times when cars are individualistic in a brand are over. The last real Volvo in my Opinion was the 940 I think it was the last RWD with a lengthways installed straight engine.

Get the C30 they are going up in value and at your age youll probably want more than a V50 in terms of size when you get older. As much as i like S40/V50 they don't hold up well in value (not that us Volvo owners care) but a C30 T5 R-Design is becoming a very sought after car, mine went up in value the last two years i owned it. Look for a R-Design T5 C30, make sure you do all the checks (water in the oil being the big one) but it it was looked after well they generally don't have much issues especially facelift models.

A local non-Volvo trained technician was the first available technician and he diagnosed and did what needed to be done in order to get the car moving. Since then, I have have been having terrible electron issues . Volvo technicians have told me that there is likely a slack or ungrounded connection. Some issues are, emergency brake does not work, moon roof is stuck in open, he k engine light is on and can’t clear. Unfortunately the local vendor dealer has closed down operations in Jamaica. Can anyone help?

Which one you recommend in terms of fuel economy, fiability and decent auto maintenance? Is this 1.8 125 hp engine (designed by mazda and branded by ford) still worth it? Come to sweden! If you own an 240, 740 or an 940 you can get an rear diff, transmission, clutch whatever like in under an hour and for cheap. Everything is easy to wrench on and even volvo supply cheap part for these cars. We even have Biltema which has a lot of part just for those cars. Now i own an Bmw 330D 2009 manual, parts are impossible to get, the dealer charge ridiculously much compared to Volvo. You better of ordering parts online and even that is sometimes tricky. There are to many weird part. Just the parking lights are a nightmare to replace and they are "expensive" compared to regular lights. LIKE WHY? Sidenote, love the car! It's reliable and makes a lot of power for being an diesel, it gets so good fuel economy while still hauling.

@ShiftingLanes Sleeves really aren't that much for a 2.5L block, Darton sleeves (best brand you can get) are only $1000 and you can for sure get that all put together assuming you pull the block yourself for roughly $600 in labor at full price. From my calculations that's about how much your exhaust and tune combined cost. I think you might have an inflated idea of how much it really costs to build an engine. Wiseco piston set for the engine about $600, and you don't need to do con rods really but you can toss em in anyways for just $500 additional. All in all that's re-sleeved, decked, and forged internals in an engine now capable of 800+hp for only $2700+/- a bit. Here are my sources in case you change your mind. www.vivaperformance.com/darton-cylinder-sleeves-volvo-5-cylinder-turbo-engines/ www.actionoutboard.com/machineshopprice.html www.autohance.com/wiseco-ke227m835-pro-tru-pistons.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7p7k4sHz3wIVR9bACh2TFAbgEAQYAiABEgLQNvD_BwE www.realstreetperformance.com/k1-technologies-139-5mm-forged-h-beam-connecting-rods-volvo-b5254-2-5l-20v.html

A tip from me is too join Volvosofsweden club on facebook if you got a volvo , its a swedish group but you can ask in english and everybody will understand and the brand is swedish and people here know alot about them if you need to know anything. And yes the V70N (Gen2) got problems with the Crankcase ventilation its caused by bad oil service rutines it clogs up the hoses and oil channels and the oil strainer in the sump and then you loose oil pressure and bam your engine seizes , its preventable by taking down the oilpan and cleaning it , changing the hoses to the ventialtion and then doing some enginge cleaner or filling it with diesel and emtying it , BUT if its to far gone , loosen up particles can get to the oil pump and seize it ,had my 2002 2.4t AWD killed by that cause.

What if you have the older ”Viskokoppling” (viscous coupling) based AWD system like the older X70 (V70 I / V70 p1/ V70 mk1 or a early V70n / V70p2 / V70 mk2 face 1AWD). Then you would not have this problem, but you would barely have a working AWD system at all, the old AWD system was and still is not good at the all wheel driving.

But i does matter, The MK supra's heritage and popularity was based on it being tuned and raced in the mountains of japan which built a racing spirit around it ranking it in with the Skylines and RX-7's - what is this cars legacy going to be? who was it designed for? a tuner who would have no use for all the luxury goods but would love to have functioning air dams and manual transmission. I still enjoy your coverage of the new car, i just think sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.
