build LMG a HR department edit: never mind they've got that sorted
Quality and accuracy absolutely has to be PRIORITY NUMBER 1 for a channel like this otherwise you erode (and possibly lose) any credibility that the very definition of a review site is founded on. LMG is big enough now and certainly produces enough revenue that they can spend a little extra time and money to make their best effort to eliminate mistakes, misleading content and maximize accuracy. If this effort is genuinely being embraced by the group then I look forward to the improved results. Review sites like this are very important for balancing commerce and for consumers and manufacturers both. Best wishes for LMG.
I've been away and catching up with everything. Just wanted to say it's great to see you back and hear about all the changes and improvements you've all worked on. Much respect for shutting down production to review and take action, looking forward to what's next!
Something I’d like to see moving forward is a distinction between labs-approved content and all the other. Maybe something in the title or thumbnail, but a quick way for people to tell whether this has been thoroughly reviewed, or is more focused on entertainment

From my point of view, if the company takes more time to produce videos, there won't be a need to do a week of introspection because you would autocorrect bad things by taking several micro introspections with the times that you have freed with non-scheduled upload. And it's like that for most companies, well tech related anyway because that's where my experience is at
@killroy42
11 ай бұрын
Every video should have a half-hour post-mortem for the responsible team to learn from mistakes made. Or perhaps an hour a week or something. In tech we do more than that, generally biweekly.
@CnutLongsword
11 ай бұрын
@@microteam4 it’s still a very valuable and healthy exercise for a team or organisation to take an annual or so break to the normal schedule and spend that time just discussing issues and concerns for leadership to look at. It creates a good feedback loop between leadership and staff and creates an environment where staff feel part of the decision making in the company and creates a more collaborative and happy culture overall. And it doesn’t really hurt production, as they could load up some fun/simpler videos to drop the week they’re out.
Suggestion: as you continuously (hopefully) improve your processes, please keep in mind that "you cannot inspect quality into a product". As a former Quality Assurance Engineer, I would say that your new processes will help to catch errors, and that is great. However, you should also focus on preventing them as much as possible to begin with. Another suggestion would be to start tracking errors and their severity. Thresholds can be set on this data that can proactively indicate the health of your processes and hopefully prevent LMG from "going this far off the rails" again. I would also highly recommend starting a "Lean" culture. The concept of lean manufacturing has been around for a while. You could adapt a lot of those cultural concepts to workplace processes. I particularly like the "2 Second Lean" book. I think you can read it for free. If the LMG teams can focus on process improvement, not "inspections", more time can be spent providing better content without sacrificing quality. Inspections, or content reviews in LMG's case, will probably always be necessary, but LMG should create a culture that can continuously eliminate sources of error. I appreciate the efforts LMG is making to address the issues brought up by the community. I want LMG, and other Tech media organizations, to succeed. I think that Louis Rossman said the following a few time, "the internet does not really have a good or standard way of forgiving an entity after they take action to improve." I want to forgive and trust LMG or any other entity that finds itself similarly lost (hopefully temporarily).

@GCTWorks

@@haxie4516 Haha! Go for it. I did not come up with these concepts. Manufacturing industries have been using them for quite some time. I have deployed lean a few times now in my career. I can say that it is always best when a culture of lean is pushed heavily, consistently, and continuously. I would also recommend you stay away from big lean projects. They are quite tempting because you get a big ROI, but once you finish it, your team, specifically at smaller organizations, will need to get back to their original job in order to stay profitable. I have found that the best way to get that lean culture is to really push staff to work the small things in a "Just Do It" fashion. The employee should be encourages to tackle small things that annoy them the most in a given work week. This has several benefits; it reduces annoyance for those employees thus improving their day to day environment, gives the employee a sense of control and enablement which will make them more likely to organically suggest and make future improvements, and all of this will create more time for employees to work activities that add value which will equate to more profit for the company.

They cannot adopt ISO 9000. It is not a traditional manufacturing company nor a medical facility. The more they try to reduce source of error, the less they will becaom creative. Eventually, you will see a video with dry-facts and narrations. I don't want 'that' LTT.
@GCTWorks
10 ай бұрын
@@PARK60264 never suggested that they should adopt iso9000. Only trying to give suggestions on how to continuously improve. They can take a look at the classical Lean Manufacturing paradigms and adopt some techniques to portions of their business. If done properly for their business, they should free up time for them to put towards creative content. brainstorming. In fact, some of the things the video indicated they are already working on, like the automations for generating the charts in the videos, which have been shown to be a source of error, would improve quality and remove the need for an individual to spend an inordinate amount of time reviewing that data again. This would free up that resource to focus on other activities like coming up with creative video ideas. This is a great example of focusing on error prevention, not detection. In general, I respectfully disagree that companies that operate to ISO9000, AS9100, and the like means that their creativity is inhibited. I work for a company now that has segments certified to both standards, and we are constantly creating many innovative products and solutions. Should LTT adopt Lean methodology to the degree and in the way car manufacturers have? Of course not! They can take the ideas that they believe can adapt to their business.

This is a company that took a small business' prototype; used it completely different from how it was intended/designed, then on the WAN show said it was an awful product that no one should buy, then SOLD the prototype in an auction instead of giving it back to the company which asked for it back. You think they can't slap a "certified tested" logo on a video and claim it was tested in a lab when it wasn't? How would you know if the sticker in the video was legit or just slapped on there? Serious ethical problems with the decision making from the top. How do you trust that logo claim?

And I'm given to understand that Linus has compensated them for it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have been generously compensated for it by this point, by way of apology. It's over, and there's no reason to assume it's part of some larger nefarious pattern. Last I heard, LTT had asked Billet to send them an invoice for whatever they valued the prototype at, they were going to pay them whatever that came out to be, and both companies would put this behind them and move on with their businesses. While a lot of people want a re-test, personally that seems like a giant drama magnet. I doubt Billet wants to provide a second sample at this point, anything less than an absolutely golden review I expect would have people in an uproar even if concerns/criticisms are valid, and half the comments on a theoretical retest would probably be trolling and memes.

Hope she gets well deserved time in a loonybin. Think about it. If a small company that's on YT did do all stuff she claimed, first the channel would have been canceled, then the company would have been next, and it'd have been all over the news so fast as to be hillarius. So they probably want to make sure they have some people around. just incase.

@@gorkskoal9315 If what she said was even remotely true she would have went to the cops. I actually found it bizarre that out of the long list of grievances she wrote, the part about SA was pretty far down the list, while the top of the list started of with vague claims about people being cold and sometimes rude, about being under pressure at work, etc. Unlike the stuff she listed at the beginning, SA is an actual crime. A normal person who actually experienced SA and wanted to speak out would have made the SA the forefront of her grievances, and would have went to the cops without waiting for her former company to experience bad press. She also made claims about being touched inappropriately but never described the kind of touch it was. Too many times when opportunistic people make these kind of claims, they try to be as vague as possible and hope that no one asks for a description of the situation because then they would be forced to disclose that the "inappropriate" touch was nothing more than a tap on the should or someone brushing up against them in a confined space or someone removing a spider from their hair, etc As it stands, her vagueness and her lack of appreciation of how serious SA is, make her seem like a non credible source, which I believe is the same conclusion the external investigator will conclude.

The content they've been shelling out the last couple of years have not felt genuine for the most part. That being said, I also hope they get back on track.

Linus - good on you and the team for the improvements. I am sure the issues that cropped up in the past weeks have been a real gut punch. And though some of the initial handling of that wasn't ideal, I think you pivoted in the right direction in the end. I know you will learn and grow from this and we can all benefit from better content in the future. Thank you for all that you do - your videos are always the highlight of my week.

Slow, sustainable growth with clear divisions between entertainment and rigorous product review content - that's what I'm hoping for. Happy you're back and look forward seeing the change x

When it comes to businesses, the transparency is something that doesn't happen that much. It's awesome to see that a company is not focused on only getting their message through and moving on but it's unprecedented to commit to transparency and try to do better. My parents thought me that every time you mess up and admit you did wrong, and you try to do better, it's all good. Great to see that those values are strong with you guys. Everybody makes mistakes, and when you strive to be the best and expand, it's inevitable to F things up along the way.

I believe KZread should add an option to update a video like is done in version control, users would see by default the last version of the video, but can link to and comment on previous versions. At the end due to the lack of version control and the possibility to correct mistakes on released content I believe youtube is not the right platform for this project…

@@justanotherperson2960 - There are systems used in big production companies that track on per-second basis, or even more sophisticated ones where the encoding format is leveraged for even better 'version' control. That saves millions in storage. It doesn't even have to be THAT sophisticated, YT is already doing in-time streaming so as long as they allow creators to mark points in video to be replaced by something else it shouldn't be that difficult and shouldn't take a ton of storage if they put some limits on how often and how much of the original video you''re allowed to replace.

It's a nice idea but I don't think there is enough demand for KZread to do it, and if it doesn't make them money then they won't do it. Maybe a nice feature for floatplane but I would assume they are already stretched on developer time.
@Qwertworks

Generally KZread allows you already to replace videos for bigger creators. The problem is the nature of video itself … it takes time to fix it and sometimes is almost impossible without a complete re-shoot. What KZread really needs is some more ways to actually put annotations in videos. Maybe even bake them in idk. So the creator can quickly and effectively comment on mistakes if they are minor enough that the video still stays up.
