Love it! Excited to see more. I think y’all should do the same route later on with 3 budget off road vehicles. Maybe like a 20K each budget. (Very top gear ish I know). But 20K is pretty attainable for a lot of people so that could be a cool project. Or just one vehicle with a 30K budget for the same thing. Just ideas 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why run propane heat on a diesel truck? Seems like it would be better and safer to run a diesel heater like all marine applications? But i would love to hear the reasoning.

I have a 5 lb propane tank like that--perfect for using a stove/grill for a week+. And I can fill it for less than the cost of one of the tiny green camping bottles that wind up in landfills. But...1) The guy mentions being able to run the heather for 30 hours. Sounds a bit optimistic to me (though this smaller version is surely more efficient than a Mr Buddy). In any case, 2-3 nights of use doesn't leave a lot extra for your cooking. Finding a U-haul every 3 days isn't convenient for my dispersed camping style. 2) Propane heaters produce water vapor, which becomes condensation. Whether it then becomes ice or trickles down and contributes to mold or rust, none of these are good options. A 20 gallon propane tank gives you a lot more freedom, but I think the better solution is a diesel heater, which are very efficient and keep the air dry. Especially since the RAM is a Cummins diesel, you could keep a Rotopax or jerry can of diesel and have enough to keep the heater going for a very long time. And the 5 lb propane is plenty for a week+ when you only need it for cooking or maybe a bit of hot water heating.

Cha Ching. $🤑 So the Classic Ram is next on the chopping block I would assume. 😂 Few more videos on that doing something work related and then the boom will be lowered on that. Curious, how many trucks that pass through your ownership have you turned into some sort of overland thing now? I am not keeping score. Will this trend ever end? Who funds all this? Are you giving all this back/selling it back? Like you did with the one that was on the lightning?

Roman, I’m pretty sure that diamond plate ramp in front of the awning is to deflect branches so you don’t rip the awning off. 😊 if it was for aerodynamics, you could do a much better job with a molded piece of plastic. Also, I’m not thrilled that the video showed them using flex pipe for the exhaust of the furnace. I won’t even use it on a vehicle for engine exhaust, it’s too leaky.

Good idea running the Devils Highway during the winter! I live in Ajo, Az. Right now the temps are not horrible. Lows in the mid to low 40’s and highs in the mid 70’s. Ajo is about 40 miles north of the International border between the USA and Mexico. We are north of the Cabeza Prieta National wildlife refuge and south of the USAF Barry Goldwater bombing range. (Look for daily aircraft strafing runs from the A-10 Warthogs!). We have big booms from either the sonic booms or the bombs detonating. Sometimes daily, but usually just weekly. On Highway 85 south 36 miles to Organ Pipe National Monument, I believe is either the end point or the starting point for the Devils Highway. While your team is in Ajo, try running some of the dozens of miles of dry riverbed. The sand is pretty deep!! It’s an ATV Heaven!

Fun project. I looked at Alu-cab but they're too difficult to install and remove so you basically lose your truck as a truck when not camping. I went with a Kimbo for a little more money and weight but easy to remove. A quick note for your camera operator, before a reveal, they should get ahead of the person whose reaction you want to see and show the face of the person reaction. Plenty of time to get the POV but you only get a genuine reaction once.

I think the Alu-Cab is a great product. The two things that could be better are: 1) Color other than black, which can get too hot; 2) lengthen the overcab cantilever to better utilize that space and provide more interior volume.

I have the Alucab Canopy on my Gladiator Rubicon and camp with a Gazelle ground tent. Love it. But when I retire and do long overlanding trips the Alucab Camper you guys have on a JTR is probably how I’ll go. So really looking forward to your trip and seeing how your outfitted Alucab Camper works out for you. Suggestion- get a portable toilet with the detachable portable waste unit and a pop up toilet/shower cube/tent- either Alucab or Front Runner make one that slots right into the side channel of tent with M8 bolts, or just get a stand alone like I have. As for toilet I have the Camping Brothers and so far so good except that zipper on bag broke- it even tipped over once and only some clean water leaked out and not even that much. For tent I just went with the Alpcour one on Amazon- 10 second set up, a little bit longer take down until you learn how to fold it back into a circle. But works great and folds down to a maybe 1 in thick x 24 in round disk. Benefit is I can keep it inside- everything hanging on the outside creates tons of drag and instability when offroading due to high up weight increasing center of gravity. Since the last planned overlanding trip with the Gladiator did not come to fruition I’m really looking forward to this one. 🤞 that weather and everything else works out for you.

Dunno. I'm biased toward FWC as I have a Hawk on my Power Wagon, but the only advantage I see to these is a slightly narrower profile and not susceptible to the trail damage from branches due to the thick aluminum vs. a glorified beer can. I've looked at these installs at Expo West a couple of times and by the time you build out the interior, meh the juice aint worth the squeeze. Plus they look hotter than hell. I'm based out of Scottsdale, so AZ, MX and UT is where I do extended off-road excursions. I can't imagine stopping mid day to get lunch out of that thing. And you're going to have dust all over stuff after a while I'd be willing to bet. There is no way that thing is sealed up around the bed/tailgate. Dust on your gear sucks. I have that Ali-Cab Shadow awning, nice piece at a heavy high center of gravity price.

Why is it so high above the cab? That’s a giant air brake wind catcher.

Cool video. You should have David build out Andre's Buhanka as an overlander on a tight budget and compare. See what he could do with 2-5 grand instead of 25k+

@@NotAFingBootlicker For a quality overland rig in these crazy times 25k isn't out of the question. With that said, that's one of the reasons why I would want to see what they could accomplish on a budget sub 5k
