The 130 toll road here in Texas stretches from Seguin on the south side at I-10, and goes north to Georgetown at I-35. This is the toll road that goes past the Circuit of the Americas! The southern half of this toll road has a speed limit of 85 mph while the northern half has a speed limit of 80 mph. Those speed limits are merely suggestions though! On numerous times I’ve had the cruise control set to 95 mph and was passed!

We’re reviving our old unlimited class Camaro that we raced at this Big Bend Open Road Race in the past. Glad to see this kind of racing get some airtime on KZread. It’s a blast whether you’re in a lower class doing 100 mph or unlimited nearing 200.
My dad and I ran this race for years. We won the 135 class in 2007 and the 140 mph class in 2012 with a 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2. Our total error on 118 miles on the 2012 run was 3 feet by compensating for tire growth. Great road and a super fun time.
The event in Neb is generally full and you have to have been a participant in the past to get in. They drive some pretty crazy roads in the sandhills and have some stretches that allow you to go 150+ mph.

The Sandhills Open Road Challenge(SORC) is awesome. I've never driven, but I have been there to watch and check it out. So much fun and a great atmosphere. The sandhills are beautiful to drive through but the roads can get tight.
You caught the back end of my Charger Hellcat @ the 7:01 mark, lol. Wish I would have been able to meet you at the event this past October - sounds like someone I would have had a great time sitting around, drinking a beer & listening to stories with! BBORR is such a great event - both the people who put it on & the local communities do an outstanding job hosting it. Good Times!

I have competed at BBORR in.... a 2012 MazdaSpeed3, a 2013 F150, a retired Busch Series Stock Car, a 1972 240Z, and a 2012 Mini Cooper S. I have competed in 13 BBORR events, I have 9 podiums, 7 firsts, 2 seconds, and twice been the overall winner with most accurate time of anyone in any class. I retired from driving in October having met my goal of a podium in every class 125 and lower, sadly never got to run the 85 class before it was dropped. I will navi for my dad in April 2024 in a 2007 Dodge Magnum in the 110 class.

A college buddy of mine lived on a road that this race ran through. His dad built up a faaaast 7.3 4 door dually to run in it.
Great job, Chris! 👍🏁
As a bmw owner I confirm this on and off message for cylinder misfires 😂😂
As someone who grew up racing the roads of the Texas Hill Country, I can’t imagine needing a map or course notes, but then again I could only reach a maximum speed of about 120 mph, but mostly drove about 85-90 mph because I wasn’t driving modern sports cars. What’s needed more than anything else is someone warning you of the wildlife in the road… deer, turkey, hogs, and more. I definitely need to look into this. It would be nice to do it again without needing to worry about speeding tickets. 😂 Thanks for sharing your story.
I live in Oakland, CA and oddly enough Mexico is a block away from me.
Great vid! Entering the BBORR has always been my dream. Still it’s a time trail, rally …. I find it hard to call it a race or street racing.
I met an older gentleman in Gail TX with a Z06 that told me about this in 2020. I've been trying to go ever since.
First heard about these events when I was a kid (teenager) about 25+ years ago during a Discover Channel docu (Extreme Machines?? I think). Always wanted to do one, bit far away from The Netherlands, maybe one day!
Check out the Sandhills Open Road Challenge that gets hosted every year. It’s a 55 mile high speed paved road rally that also has a flying mile challenge where you are only limited to the top speed of your vehicle. It’s been happening since 2001, I believe.
Would be a lot of fun! Wish they had something like that up here.

This bloke tells a good story, see if he's got any more in him!
Just ran this for the first time in April, as a rookie you are limited to the 110 mph class. i have the northbound leg dashcam footage on my page.
I have wanted to go open road racing ever since I read the first article about Big Red. I finally have a car again that can do it and I want to do it this year in the fall or next year.

I'm playing EA sports WRC and they have an event called regularity rally. In this event you have to maintain a specified average speed you reach the checkpoint at a certain time and you get a penalty for arriving too early for too late. I thought that was a cool event in the game and here they are doing it in real life on city streets! Awesome world we live in
Huh. This would be a cool road trip. May try road tripping and running this with my Jaguar F-Pace in Oct. Kind of sad it would be limited to 125 for my first event but still a great time.
Any chance there's something like this near michigan? Or only out west?
Where and when does the one in Nebraska take place? I’ve never heard of it
Chris Hays is a badass! ABG!
As an owner of a heavily modified BMW I can attest to having cleared a limp mode cylinder deactivation code while flying down the freeway, on multiple occasions. 🤘🏽
That lending scheme in the advertisement is BS, that pre-computed interest used to be known as rule of 78. So say you borrow $10,000, and then the next day you pay $5,000, when your first payment date comes, you still owe the same amount, you are still paying on the interest that was pre-computed, so the bottom line is, there is no benefit to early payment whatsoever., However, there is benefit too early payoff, so at that point the interest stops. it is a very crooked way to lend, almost all places like one main financial or mariner use it so not saying this particular place is so bad, just that warning about what they act is such a great thing is anything but.
I imagine doing it in that NA Miata was an absolute blast! 😃
