@@HighPeakAutos Thanks for the video. Enjoyable/entertaining to watch and informative at same time (as always). £0.33/mile is a bargain but shouldn’t you add the depreciation to that to get the real total costs of ownership? You will be able to very accurately estimate the value of the car today. I think it might make the case for the Lexus even stronger but I’d much rather hear that from you than from a KZread armchair ‘expert’ like me.

I liked and found your initial review of the NX300H very helpful. I feel hybrid is the way to go. Our brief was suv, petrol, good quality, reliable and not ridiculously expensive. Both my wife and I have a Lexus NX300h. I got both on Lexus Finance HP at 5.9%apr. Also like you found extremely reliable. Big plus was that if you have serviced at Lexus dealer you get warranty extended each year for up to 10 years from new or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first). In my opinion impossible to beat (except other Lexus or Toyota product such us ux200h, rx450h or Toyota RAV4 of similar age ) I find your videos interesting and informative.

100% well said, in comparison I had 6 jaguars, they where good cars but quality and durability wise not close to a Lexus, and now I have bought a Lexus rc300h and I love it. Tax, reliability, durability, fuel and comfort!!! Top of the list. As long as serviced properly it should last a long time. I love your honest reviews. Thank you 👍

Hi Matt, I've been driving Lexus cars for 13 years now. Apart from servicing and consumables I haven't had any issues. All my friends have been driving German and JLR vehicles, every one of them has had issues. I do conceded that they're probably more engaging to drive but reliability, quality and comfort mean more to me. If I want fun I just stick my leathers on and go for a hoon on my bike. Thanks for another great post.

I looked at the NX, IS and RX when I was browsing cars but settled on a 2015 GS450h premier a few months ago. I love the car - getting 39mpg even with the occasional thrashing. I genuinely can't think of a car brand I'd want to replace it with for the money. The reliability + performance + fuel economy is just incredible. I'm going to stick with it for a good few years because I just can't bring myself to downgrade in any aspect. I'm slightly annoyed at Lexus for not having the new RAV4 engine in the NX until this year. If it had that engine back in 2018 then I think that would have got my sale but I'll potentially keep my GS for a few years and then get a 2022 NX when they come down in price

Hi Matt, let me tell you a little story about cheap EV. Here in Romania, the most popular one is the Dacia Spring, its's made in China on some Dongfeng platform, it used to cost with some money from the government(ECO voucher) 8000-9000 euros with the mention that you could not sell it for the first year. Now the prices has gone up, the waiting period is 10-12 months for a new one, again from China( very ECO) and there have been a lot of them on sale at 14.000-15000 euros on the second hand market.

As I need a family car the only options are the big crossovers which are ridiculously expensive brand new and market for second hand aren't much better. And also comes the pain of having a plug installed at home (as we plan to move next year). In the end I've gone with an X5 30d. Not a rapid car but more than enough for the family cruiser

Hey Matt, why not try the Kia Niro EV but the 4 plus specification, which is the top of the range one. Not the new shape one (22/72 reg) but the 21 / 71 reg one with the new Kia Logo. You'd be pleasantly surprised. Leather, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, sunroof, DAB radio, Android auto and Apple Car play, a wide-screen sat nav, rear heated seats, 280 mile range when fully charged, decent sound system, dual zone climate control, LED headlamps and taillights, oh, and the balance of at least a 7 year warranty. So if you buy a year old car, you are covered by Kia's warranty for the next 6 years. They don't break anyway. Plus a sub 7 second 0-60 time....

I am 'one of those blokes' who likes SUVs and wants some luxury and tech with a healthy dose of reliability but doesn't want to buy new or nearly new as spare cash doesn't allow. How much did you buy the NX for 1 year ago? Assuming it was trade how much would it have been for a normal punter private/retailer? And how much is it worth now private/retail? Also no mention of the Lexus extended warranty if after 3 years it was serviced with them up to 10years/100k - this is an added useful bonus if all servicing done via Lexus. I am assuming this was the case way back in 2014 - perhaps not? Cheers 👍

Although I’m sure this wouldn’t fly on the looks front a 2017-18 Niro PHEV would do 25-30 miles EV everyday across the seasons (although they do fire up the ICE to provide heat in colder months)as long as she gets into the habit of plugging in every night has heated seats and wheel and on a long run to the continent (I did Slovenia and back this summer) still returned 60mpg (and that is measured not the dash number over 2,200 miles of driving). The auto cruise was a delight across Germany pegged at 78mph. I picked my 2017 for 15.4K in June with 64,000 on the clock and still 2.5 years left on the 7 year Kia Warranty.

Interesting video. You asked about sub £20k EV options and there is the E Golf which you can find on Auto trader for around £18k or less. Spec wise not up there with the Lexus but it is not 'geeky'. Now £17k for a 67 plate golf is pricey but the fuel savings will offset that significantly providing you can charge at home and don't need to do too many long journeys. We need more lower spec cheaper EV cars and they will be coming over the next 3-5 years and Chinese brands will lead the way until the usual mainstream brands catch-up.

I kept that for 6months over the summer then traded it to the ONLY garage that would take it, and only against a VW Lupo 1L he couldnt shift. 🙂

  • @Conservator.

    Жыл бұрын

@@UnseenSpirit 500 miles and charging in 10 minutes is applying ICE habits to EVs. I sincerely hope that you won’t drive 500 miles without taking a break or two. Therefore a 300 miles range should be more than enough. How many miles do you regularly drive on one day? That’s the range that you’d really need. EVs should be charged at or near home at night (and slowly to save the battery). If your occasional destination is over half the range, then you’d want to charge at (or near) your destination. Fast charging should only be necessary on long trips (e.g. holiday).

  • @UnseenSpirit

    @UnseenSpirit

    Жыл бұрын

@@Conservator. ICE habit yes, but also convenience. I don't drive anywhere near 300 miles a day, it is 78 miles a day. A tank of 40 litres in my prius gives me a range of 550 or so miles in winter and 600 or so in summer. More if I stayed under 70. I fuel up when I hit 100 miles left of range. It is a habit from anxiety I suppose. I have the same when I hit 20 percent on my phone. I also need to be very early at work for when I take my train out of the depot or take over one due to this anxiety haha. I do plenty of air bnb trips and love that it's a hatchback that is reliable. I can fit 2 Brompton bikes in with luggage and food etc easily. My vehicle is used for everything. Ikea trips where I've fit a 220 cm cupboard (flat pack) to dumping lots of things to a recycling centre from a washing machine to a broken up shed. My wife is a keen gardener so every year we get over a ton of compost and lots of plants. It fits my fishing rods and gear comfortably and golf clubs and bag. Again the prius can't be faulted on how useful it is. Yes it's ugly and slow but also cost per mile (including in repairs and maintenance) is exceptional. I am a rail worker who requires my vehicle to get into work and home (because I can start at 04:30 am or finish at 01:58 am) so reliability is vital. 300 mile range is possible I believe in an EV but in the real world, having spoke to many EV drivers, what is claimed can be off by around about 10 to 15 percent off. My prius is slow, but I may or may not hit 95 mph when the roads or quiet. So, yes 500 miles range and fast charging is vital for me. Why? Because it is what I have now (well I have more range and fuel up in under 3 minutes (I've timed it and fuel up at quiet times since I start or finish late) using a station that has cars payments at the pump) I don't have a fast charger near me (closes is 20 miles). I could install a charger on my property and drive way, but I believe a 3 pin charging speed at home in the UK is quite slow. Will it charge 78 miles that I do a day over night? Probably but I need to do more research. So, 300 miles if it was a real world range would give me over 3 trips to work and back. 600 miles gives me over 7 trips to work and back. 500 miles would give me 6 trips exactly. Then there is the cost. A M3 is an efficient vehicle but I have a hatch which is so useful for my lifestyle. I'd have to get a Model Y but that costs around £60k... I have looked at other EV's too such as the Ev6 but that's around about £50k. It's a big expense if I was to get a new EV with good range and a hatchback and I'm earning a decent salary too. So, I've done my research. Why would I compromise myself by having less range? I don't want to wait 30 minutes or more to charge a vehicle if I'm on a air bnb or fishing road trip road trip. So for me, until an EV meets what I want, then my next car may very well be another prius which has been superb for my needs. However my 2009 car has been so faultless that I suspect it may very well last many more years (many do 300k miles hence why they are so popular for uber drivers).

You can easily do 40 mpg or even more on a long run if you learn how to drive a hybrid and adapt your driving style in every segment. Also, why would you look parts yourself and service elsewhere? Lexus Relax covers 10 years/100k miles manufacture warranty of you service the car at a Lexus centre. Even if you exceed the 100k miles, you can still benefit from the 15 years hybrid warranty.

I guess the one thing not included in the annual running costs was the depreciation, but I don’t think that will be much. The fuel for the Evoque would have been even more, since you also took the cost of diesel to be the same as the cost of petrol per litre, when in fact it’s probably around 10p more, adding a further £170. Kind of unfortunate that this was the year the Lexus needed a big service. I think you would have been £200 better off most other years.
