Your work is absolutely beautiful. I live in Kenosha, WI, and we are a small city of about 110,000 people. We have two bakeries that charge $45 for a half sheet cake, so the location is correct. I have a small home cake pop business, and I can not get my clientele here to pay what my cake pops, cakesicles, are really worth. The girl / boy cake you made was definitely nicer than the original. I’m from the UK so I always do USD to GBP conversions of your prices and I wish I could charge similar!But, different country; different price range

Great video! You’re absolutely right about charging your worth. As my skills have grown my prices have gone up. I’ve learned that people will pay for quality. I have a motto- I work too hard for my money to give it away. What I give is the opportunity to earn it. I had to earn it. You want it? You have to earn it too. I treat people like I want to be treated. I give excellent customer service. I deliver cake cutting guide with directions on how to disassemble their tiered cakes, how to store that top tier if it’s a wedding… but if someone is willing to pay as much as I charge for a cake, they get excellent customer service

Awwww thank you so much! When I started, I was making sheet cakes for $25-$50 and 3 tiered cakes for $200. As my skill level has increased, so have my prices!

I just tried decorating a cake. It's significantly more difficult than it looks. After trying to decorate it myself, I would happily pay your prices.

Oh my gosh! I just had a nervous lady too who was driving me nuts. She loved her soccer themed cake for her husband but I could tell she had a tough time trusting me. And the inspiration pic she sent was horrible I knew I could do better than that. 😂

I think your pricing is great. If a customer wants a Walmart cake then they need to go to Walmart. Your cakes are works of art! They are paying for your creative talent and the time involved to make the cake. I absolutely love the pink baby shower cake. It's always nice when someone tells you to be creative and use your own design. 😊

So true! I live in the rural PNW, our town is literally in the middle of wheat fields, very few people here would ever pay those kinds of prices, so they don't get those kinds of cakes, but if you go on the other side of the state (Seattle), that is comparable to what I've seen there. It's like any profession, you are paying for the expertise of the vendor (presumably because you can't do it yourself), my husband and I had a painting business and you get a lot of 'oh, that's way too much', ok, good luck to you, hope you find someone

OMG they were a nightmare I don't ever wanna make them again! 😂 I rolled pink and blue fondant in a ball. Then I rolled out pink and blue fondant really thin. And I took my xacto knife and hand cut tiny strips. Then I got piping gel behind each strip and randomly stuck them to the ball. It took a lot longer than I anticipated!

@KarolynsKakes thank you for your response and honesty. Personally, if i pay btwn 300 to 500 hundred for a cake i would expect it to taste gourmet as well as be beautiful. Cake mix, even doctored has a specific and fake/cheap taste (perhaps the chemicals they add?). Your art is beautiful however and i enjoy watching you make it.

How tall are your layers?

The 2 layer tiers are approx. 4 1/2 to 5" tall. I bake in 2" high pans and torte my cakes. So there are 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling.
