IKR their CGI is so lackluster. I know they're only making them to keep copyrights but they could at least put some effort into making them feel alive. Plus there's the actually good films they've made recently, the animated ones, that get barely any marketing or promotion and go straight to the app instead of the cinema.
@kgty1295

Not necessarily they don’t make the hair cgi super realistic either. In the new little mermaid her hair was often behind her back when it reality it would’ve been floating above her. That just didn’t do well with the test screenings it wasn’t as pretty
Even almost 13 years later, her hair still looks great and not goofy. I think that speaks to how well of a job they did.
You can see this "suspension of disbelief" in lots of animated things, But you can also see it in live action as well. Such as being able to see in a night time environment. Or a character having magic. This suspension of disbelief is what makes movies watchable.

Pretty sure they also created an entire electronic engine specifically for hair to animate Merida’s hair in brave. You can see in Encanto just how amazingly they’ve perfected it.
I love to see him make a live action tangled
2004 the incredibles - we dont know if animating violets hair is even possible, it is going to be massive feat. 6 years later - tangled with that massive hair hits the screen.
Both Rapunzel and Merida’s hair were the more difficult ones, with Merida having messy, and curly hair, they added a lot of details

Lmao I love how they give her a swoop even though hair that heavy would be completely flat. Magic hair has magic volume I guess
i met one of the animators that worked on her hair at EAST conference 2019
In my opinion rapunzel has the most best animated hair
I'm 30 years old and watched rapunzel recently on the telly. I was not expecting to be that impressed by the animation. I was actually quite engrossed in the story by the end.
Imagine how happy the animators were when they finally cut that thing off, like thank goddd no more overtime
Pixar just makes it look easy and better.
Long story short, they create a model for her hair. Which, once it’s done, things are a lot easier. I think this short make it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Yes it is complicated, but NOT that complicated. A lot of western animation and just animation in general now have model, even morty’s, yes it is 2D so how do you have model for 2D animation? 2D model! Every movements and head turns is pre-drawn and when needed, use it. Unlike traditional animation where everything is drawn, and set up like that one animation that have button for eyes (forgot the name).
@PastelPixie99

Nah bro Ur wrong.... Both 2D and 3D both super complicated and no they actually simplified how complicated the hair was to do it is THAT complicated... I hate how people love down playing artists hard work
I’ve always had a swoop, just like Rapunzels. Always thought it was kinda cool
I just love female characters waving their long hair and animating it is what I loved to do most back in the day
Incredibles revolutionized it the most
How fitting for a big hair animating test to be a movie centered about said hair
Rapunzel's hair was a paid actor
Thanks Disney..we grew up reading these..now sharing with my kids
The thing is if a disney film is bad you can never say the animation itself is bad
Just give it to the internet. They always know how to come up with Disney level animations.
One of my favorite thing about Repunzel is her signature hair curve in the front because just like Repunzel, I also have the same thing ✌️
That hair animation must have been its own hell - Hair was INFAMOUS when it came to animation / physics. Especially the physics. Volumes, like a head, sword, box, etc, are easy to calculate. Hair, on the other hand, is just a line. How do you ensure your hair isn't clipping through things, especially other hairs!?
Hair bible is a good example of the type of work a concept artist would do, they don’t do the animation so to say, but they make rule and guidelines for the animation to look like the character
@emackenzie
Жыл бұрын
I think that's generally more for character designers, concept artists are typically more for exploring ideas
When she cuts her hair, it must have been the best day of their lives
Love her hair but boy were those animators must’ve been glad it Got cut
This made me watch the movie again but truly WATCH the animation and how everything moves/ is shaded
If I was Repunzel my hair would be SO.DAM.TANGELD.
I love this movie so much. Disney is a master at creativity.
Not even a huge fan of Disney Animations anymore but Rapunzel's hair will always be memorable to me. They did well
Rapunzel & Merida are both known for their wild hair and yet Disney decided they’d be the two princesses as 3d animation test subjects back to back lol
The animation for Rapunzel's is so compliacted it has it's own bible.
All those days, went out to make hair. All those nights suddenly it clicked.
My hair falls in the swoop and I try to make sure it stays when I dry or straighten my hair and I just realized it's the same as rapunzels
I started 3d animation classes recently and my respect for animators has grown tenfold. I always respected the work animators do but since starting it myself, it's WAY harder and more frustrating than you could imagine. The amount of layers for the hair alone would make my PC die.
I don't even WANT to imagine animating this. A few years of work, easily
We've had this in video games for awhile, and that's even more difficult
i wish the barbies they made had proper proportioned hair. the one i had when i was little had hair down to the feet, but now that i think if it, it would be hard to keep it unknotted
Disney has come so far with CGI in Encanto.
ngl, the actress for the hair did pretty good job
