So what are the chances of replacing the small 0 ring seal at the bottom with a comparable fuel resistant seal from the auto parts store?

That is tough question. If you can find one the fits correctly and is rated for fuel, it might work.

I commented on another video but my pick up tube doesn’t look like yours or is missing a piece so that might be why it won’t pick up fuel but the previous owner never opened it from what he said and when pressurized I don’t have any fuel bubbling up at the top of the valve.

Hi guys, this is a great video the 295 doesn’t have a lot of info in regard to fuel flow. I have just fixed this problem. Cost of repair was between $25 Aussie and $190. Parts ended up coming from Coleman direct. My understanding is you may be able to mix Northstar with 295 parts to get a solution when parts are short.

Thanks for the feedback. In the USA Coleman's website refer you to oldcolemanparts.com or erepalcementparts.com. However, many of the parts are not currently available on those site. I am glad you were able to get you lantern fixed.

the 286 / 288 , and 285 all use the same fuel/air pickup tube and schrader valve. . the only difference between these air tubes and valves is the thread pitch on top of the valve where you put the generator. ( 286/288 use same generator nut.) i took and old 288 i got at a garage sale for $3.00 and bought the valve and air tube assembly for a 285 dual fuel, and it screwed right in no problems. then i got a generator for the 288 and 285. ( remember the 285 jam nut will only fit the 285 valve. ) so now i can use either a 288 or 285 generator on my 288. ( remember the 285 generator comes with a new jam nut, you must remove the jam nut from the 285 generator in order to use the 288 generator) ,, ( i don`t run unleaded gas in my lanterns.) so the 285 generator will last longer than the 288 generator between cleaning the carbon out of the generator , because the 285 generator body except for the top near the tip is bigger diameter than the 288. you can do the same thing between the 290 and 295 big lanterns. hope this helps some of you guys out there. keep them burning!!!!!!

Just watched another video on KZread of a guy who bought Schrader valves for tires and soaked them in Coleman fuel and kerosene and water for five months the rubber from the Coleman Fuel and the kerosene basically just crumbled apart after 5 months. Schrader valves made for tires are not safe!

Automotive AC Schrader valves that are the same size should work fine since they are resistant to fuel and lubricants!

AC Shrader valves will not work. I bought an assortment on Amazon and soaked some in naptha for 24 hours. Despite the fact that they were supposed to be heat and oil proof, they did not hold up. The plastic body gaskets held up well but the gasket at the bottom of the valve turned soft and started to disintegrate.
