Makes sense given modern English comes from a mixture of previous versions of English combined with Latin, French and germanic languages so modern English shares so of the rhythm and patterns of German making it easier to keep the same rhythm when translated

  • @FelixEvers06

@@naturelassYeah, but it definitely has more French in it, and the grammar and syntax changes quite a bit. Translating this to Dutch, for example, would be a lot easier, as it has basically the same syntax as German (with a few small exceptions). The vocabulary is also a lot closer together. (Native Dutch speaker btw, I know enough German to be able to mostly understand the original song)

It's easier to go from Germanic languages that from a Romance to a Germanic. Which is why in French/Spanish translation into English it can be hard to preserve rhythm and rhyme and also viceversa. Shakespeare is trash in Spanish.

From Wikipedia (for anyone else unfamiliar): “Barbapapa is a 1970 children's picture book by the French-American couple Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, who lived in Paris, France. Barbapapa is both the title character and the name of his "species". The book was the first of a series of children's books originally written in French and later translated into over 30 languages.” The title character is the one she has drawn on the whiteboard.
