Thanks to Coletti we've enjoyed the absolutely crazy horsepower wars of the past 20 years. These days you're not really fast unless your boosted. That's a helluva legacy. I hope he's enjoying retirement. 😉

I own a Silver Terminator and after I installed an intake and a 2.8 pulley I ran into a Corvette Zo6 and was thrilled to pull away from him. I knew I had bought something special. I now have a Lysholm 3300 Blower making 609rwhp on the stock pulley, amazing!!!

Never heard of that blower for terminators. I know they made the blower on the Ford gt but it was like a 2.3. That's pretty sweet.

They said they made 390 hp, but it was really about 425 hp/370ish whp.

Yup you are correct sir. The “new edge” is due to the edges added to the sn95 platform. I still remember the day the 1999 Mustang Gt was released. It was such a different “modern” looking mustang I remember thinking 😆 And that statement was true! It’s a timelesss body design like the Supra. Like ahead of its time!

These Cobras have attained the most street cred of any other car.

Great video man I own a 04 cobra and 01 lightning both are great vehicles and will have them till the day I die. SVT FOR LIFE

Coming from someone that sold his 01 Lightning a decade ago... get buried with them both lol. Even today, I get chills when I hear that eaton screaming. I would seriously take a low miles Termi over a Ferrari at this point in my life. It's a bit irrational and a little obsessive, but it's the truth.

I love my 2004, so much fun to drive.

I just added a 04 torch red cobra to my mustang collection with just 29hundred original miles.Original paint and tires.Bone stock with just mufflers changed that is it.The only thing that I will do is full exhaust and maybe lower it.Nothing else. I know I can make it a very fast car but no need I have a gt500 and 2 super snakes.

Justin Johnson Thanks Justin 🙏🏻 This one took some time to make, I really wanted to make sure I got the story the closest to how it really happened.. But man what an amazing story for the terminators, really a car that was a Pioneer for its time and how the ls1 would’ve never been able to compete with them even if they wouldn’t have cancelled them in 2002.

Guys let’s look at the facts on this post. Car and Driver said the Terminator was quicker then the Corvette coup, Not the Zo6. 03 Zo6 would smash the Terminator all day, meaning stock cars. Nevertheless, terminator is an awesome car.

It wouldn't "smash" it but the z06 was quicker stock for stock. The cobra put down more power on the dyno than even the 02-04 z06 but also weighed 500 lbs more and had worse aero which was the difference in the race between them. With pulley and tune it could pull away from a z06 under 1000 bucks in mods.

I remember watching that show at the beginning of the video when it was first on TV I was in love with these cars I was 19-20 years old at that time and there had never been anything like that before. The cobra went from keeping up with ls1 cars to destroying them they even took out base corvettes and with 600 dollars in mods could pull on the 20k dollar higher z06. These things were extraordinary

Sweet83GT Yes I couldn’t agree more, he should definitely talk about the terminators it would be amazing to hear from him in his words, the development and everything they went thru to build this legendary machine.. There is a book about the development of the terminator that goes into detail about it call “iron fist, led foot” it covers the story about the terminator in depth..

This car is loved by the mustang community. But it seems to be underrated by everyone else. Even video games. Forza, nfs and all the other games out there never give you the option to use this game. I wish there was just one good game that gives you the option of tuning a cobra. They have far lesser cars all the time. But for some reason, they never have the Termi

Yeah man it sucks, I’ve always ask myself the same question, but in reality what happens is that they use the “best model” of each generation, so for the 99-04 Mustang they use the 2000 Cobra R because it was the track ready Mustang, with no AC, no radio a unique motor a special suspension tuning and because they only built 300 of them. That’s why you never see Terminators on video games, unfortunately. I would rather see a Terminator over a 00 R all day but they don’t agree.

My dream car.

The story of the Terminator goes back much farther than the 99 cobra, even back to the early 90’s when the Probe was almost called the mustang. The book “Iron Fist, Lead Foot” by John Coletti himself, details the Terminators development. It was actually originally slated for the 6.8 V10, but when it couldn’t shake the SVT Focus in SVT’s annual test/cruise, they scrapped the V10 idea, went back to the 4V 4.6, and set an M112 Eaton on top of it that they were having great success with on the Lightning. Both the 99, and 01 cobra’s were released because the Terminator wasn’t finished.

Wasn't they also considering the 5.4 4v na for a while? I swear I remember reading about that in mm&ff when they were talking about the new improved cobra that was on its way. Similar to the 2000 r.
