The Notre Dame Folk Choir singing "Here I am Lord" by Dan Schutte, at Notre Dame's Flaherty Hall chapel.
Lyrics:
I the lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save
I have made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am Lord
Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go Lord
If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart
I the lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide
Till their hearts be satisfied
I will give my life to them
Whom shall I send?

This is so much expressive of a Call to ordained ministry. You instinctively know if you refuse that Call, part of you will be missing for the rest of your life. Oh, you'll have a "normal" life, but an indescribable "something" will be missing . . . and when you think of it, you just know you will be sad.

This is beautiful, but the verses you sang, one of them was not the one here. Which is a Shame. It's the most moving part of the song. "I the Lord of snow and rain. I have borne my people's pain. I have wept for love of them, They turn away.... I will break their hearts of stone. Give them Hearts for Love alone. I will speak my Word to them.. Whom Shall I Send????" My heart breaks for the Lord every time I hear it. Don't leave these words out of the lyrics. It's the part we need to Hear, See, and Live the most. God Bless.
