The N55 is a gem of an engine! Despite what you might hear from the n54 fan boys the n55 makes great RELIABLE POWER! I've had mine e90 n55 for almost 4 years and can honestly say its been a great vehicle! I've had a few things I've had to fix but there all the known/common problems you'll encounter! Best part is you can save a 💩💩💩 ton of money if you DIY verse taking to a shop to have it fixed! IMO the common problems that you'll experience while owning this car isn't something that you can't fix yourself! Especially with all the resources on line with a community of enthusiasts that will gladly help you solve any problems you might have! I highly recommend this platform to anyone that wants a reliable daily that can also make decent power!

Add tensioner pulley.....Very common. Changed my SERP belt at 60,000 and noticed the tensioner unit shaking side to side. Showed the video to my dealership tech and he said it needs to be changed. FCP and ECS has a good kit under $150 for everything you need. Tensioner with new bolt, drive belt, and idler pulley. Lastly, I have 72,000 on my N55 and along with 5000 mile oil changes, I routinely put in only 6.4 quarts or basically a tad less than 6.5 with the mindset that any possible overfilling will just add to the eventual OFHG, OPG, or VCG leak. Never had any low oil level messages and to date, zero oil leaks anywhere. And I constantly look for leaks using Liqui Moly Molygen and the supplied blue light.

Hello! Thank you for good content! Just wonder, doesn't your open air filter take a lot of heat from the engine? You take pretty cold air from the air out side but isn't better to block heat from engine and put It in closed box? Congrats for the car It looks so nice Omar. Best regards Ben.

Just wanted to say it’s extremely important to upgrade your charge pipe. Just picked up a 2016 435i with 25,000 miles. Did a stage one MHD tune and blew the charge pipe to my surprise. I did not think a stage one could do this to the pipe.

As your beginning to track your car you should look into the N55 oil starvation issues. At higher cornering forces the engine can lose oil pressure and wear itself to quickly which will lead to a catastrophic failure whereby you’d probably need a new motor. As you didn’t mention it in this vid I thought I’d give you a heads up. I got my 230i around the same time you got this car and my car has treated me well too and wouldn’t want mine or anyone else’s taking a bad turn. Keep up the good work 👍🏾

Lock actuator failures are a common problem on the e9x platform! There typically not brought up when discussing common issues you might encounter with these vehicles, even though they fail all the time! Luckily since these cars have aged now you can easily find parts for them all over the place! Your local auto salvage yards are the perfect place to find parts like this. I replaced mine for $20. Taking your vehicle to a shop to have something like this fixed is going to be straight robbery! There's no reason to pay someone to do this when its a fairly straight forward DIY! There's a ton of resources out there to help you if you don't know what to do!

  • @JeeperZJ

perform the repairs prematurely. The issue is the gasket material itself, over time it will just get old and brittle and will allow for oil to get past it....no way around it. You can either fix it when it happens, or just do it before a leak occurs if you know that it will eventually leak.

Obviously there can be freak accidents but for the most part, we own amazing cars. Michelle where are you buying the car from? an what year is it? if you want ur engine to not end up like mine i suggest you to change ur oil every 3k to 4k miles and always monitor ur oil level, because the main thing that ruins the engine is insufficient oil and old oil that wasn’t changed quick enough. other then that as long as you maintain the car and change the gaskets, if you preventively maitain the car it will treat you well if you if u treat the car well. you can easily surpass 200k especially if u drive it normal. these engines are infamous for “spinning rod bearings” even at 35 40k miles stock engines no mods. i had a freind that spun a bearing at 35k miles no modz. if you want the engine to last change the rod bearings as soon as you buy the car. if you have any questions about the car let me know. i’ve done a lot of reasearch about these cars.
