    I agree. I had terrible results using a Purdy brush and several rooms later, great results with a super cheap off-brand brush. But I realized it was that my prep work, patience and skill level had greatly increased.

    I'm happy you have the good courtesy to point out it's the Painter not the brush. I've painted all over the US 🇺🇸 and currently paint in central Europe. They don't even sell brushes here that we use in the States. But there are still good and not so good painters

    My favorit: Nour. They were sold by Home Hardware under the designer series. Now I see them at home depot under the Nour name. I cut in my entire inerior and didn't loose a single bristle. Still in good shape after many cleanings.

    Agree, the main thing is the painters skill, but having the right tool to do the job does make a difference no matter what you are painting. As he said a less stiff brush will give better results for trim while a stiff brush with a good chisel point will work better for cutting. The skill comes in being able to paint a straight ceiling line quickly and evenly and to have the feel to "feather" the stroke for fading, for wood work, and especially artistic painting to blend colors seamlessly. Good material makes a difference too whether it is house or artistic painting.

    Hello. I just watched a few of your videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge about painting, cleaning, types of brushes and about the swell in the middle if left sitting in water. In this video you say it's the painter, no matter what brush is used, that accomplishes the straight line. In one of your other videos you talk about how it's not the painter necessarily, but more so the brush, or bristles and making them work for you as you cut. So now I'm confused... Haha. I know a good brush makes for a great result. Someone may think they can go purchase a dollar store brush (the ones that bristles fall out from, leaving them in your paint ext) and think this will do as good a job. I suppose it's a little bit of both...a knowledge painter and a decent brush. ?

    I've seen that some brushes are sold regionally. In upstate New York what I see mostly is Purdy and Wooster. I have a slew of both. For cutting in, and depending on the paint, I generally go for a Wooster Ultra Pro 2 1/2" angled sash brush. Sometimes an Alpha or Chinex. I just purchased an Arrowworthy Red Frost. I put it to the test and am quite surprised at how well it covers.

    Clear cut elite.(sherwin williams) Only clean it halfway the first time and let the left over paint dry in the bottoms of the bristles (set upside down while drying so handle is on bottom bristles are on top). Now you have a good stiff brush that also covers. With this brush( if cleaned per description) it doesn't matter who's using it you can cut a straight line easily

    There’s no such thing as a straight line with a brush, you can get it so close where the client will never tell, but the work I do, the clients I have everything has to look perfect, a line will never be perfect unless you tapped it.

    use a very soft brush. keep a "wet edge". brushing into semi-dry paint is a big no no. while you can paint on thick and allow the longer dry time (due to the thickness) to get the paint to self-level, you may have more success with thin coats. allow plenty of dry time. proform contractor series brushes are the best brush you are likely to find for this, but extra soft is what you're looking for. purdy nylox is a decent second place. this will not be the same brush you'd use to cut in along the ceiling.

    Semioval is all I use anymore. Wooster alpha and proform Picasso are my go-tos. There is a semioval silverntip, as well, but if it's going to die as fast as the Picasso and cost the same, I'll take the Picasso. I should give it another shot . Proforms contractor series brushes are great for trim and preferable to the Picasso because of its softness

    mackhomie6 semi oval is all I use anymore to they hold way more paint! I use the purdy xl pip and the purdy clearcut elite semi oval. My opinion is Woosters are only good for dusters but if they work for you hey that’s great!!

  • @mackhomie6

    @mackhomie6

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Mylittlewhiskers223 oh bro. you're missing out, man. I'm telling you if you give them a fair shake again, it'll be the purdys in the duster heap. if you haven't tried a silver tip, get one. don't even have to get the s.o. because they hold a ton already and you can give it a test run for ten bucks. otherwise, if you don't mind one with a ton of springiness and as firm as I'll ever use inside, get the Wooster alpha s.o. 2.5" angled. it holds more paint than any of the purdys and draws a cleaner line, with less brush strokes because of the tip treatment (where purdys are just flagged, which sucks. ) the clear-cut skips the flagging, thankfully, and j assume the s.o. version would be passable. but the regular 2.5 clear-cut pales in comparison to a 2.5" silvertip, it just lasts longer--which, frankly, who cares? edit: also, try a side by side to compare brush strokes with your purdy vs either of the woosters but especially the chemically treated silvertip. I've brushed metal front doors with them and have pics to show how nice it turned out

  • @ExpressionsPainting

    @ExpressionsPainting

    5 жыл бұрын

    Shawn Eliason the fact that you’re asking the question as to why a painter would need to be licensed is part of why I believe there is such a lack of knowledge in our industry. Most people don’t realize how much you really need to know to excel in this trade... including a lot of painters. I’m in Canada and the same organization that Licenses Electricians or Plumbers also has a program for Painting & Decorating however this license is not mandatory for our trade with the exception of a few Governmental Painting Positions or Commercial Projects in certain parts of the country. The unfortunate reality is that a lot of clients are often left hanging when a problem comes up to which the painters can’t resolve or know the solution. That’s why I do these videos :)
