Reegan Ray is totally committed to herding with her boxers. Her Boxer named, “Pip” became the first titled herding boxer in America. Boxers are working dogs but not typically thought of as a shepherd. They were used on farms as a utility dog and likely did a little hunting as well.
For the past 15 years, Boxer fanciers from the USA, Canada and England have been collaborating to promote their dogs' working abilities, including herding skills. Dedicated Boxer owners have trained their dogs and earned herding titles through other herding organizations, including AHBA and CKC, to demonstrate to the AKC the innate herding instinct that Boxers can possess. In 2008, the Boxer Club of San Fernando Valley sponsored the first Herding Instinct Test in the USA solely for Boxers drawing an entry of 15, and all but two passed the test. In 2010, one Boxer was shown non-competitively in a novice class at a USBCHA Border Collie trial in Vista, CA, surprising bemused Border Collie handlers with her calm, focused attention on the stock! I'M A BIG FAN OF DJI DRONES AND CAMERAS, GREAT FOR GETTING AMAZING PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF YOUR DOGS.

Boxers are amazing. I had one years ago, she woke me up one night. At first I was in shock it reminded me of the show Lassie lol she wanted me to follow her. So, I follow her down the hall into my daughter's room. She slowly walked up to the corner and became still and basically pointed. My daughter's hamster had gotten out! Sasha woke me up to let me know of the escape.

Yes! The boxer I first did herding with that I spoke about here in this video, Pip, used to come get me in the night to let me know my elderLy rescue boy needed to go out to pee. Then she would walk out and wait for him, not going herself! And walk him back inside.

@@reeganray1729 they are such smart empathetic dogs after Sasha passed I couldn't bare to get another. It's been about 15 years your story and Jennifer Silverthorn's story from above brings back such good memories. My friend told me that when she would stay the night Sasha would come in during the night to check the room then go around the rest of the house. She was always on the look out for my girls and I. ❤ I feel like she sent Chaos to me he has helped fill that hole left in my heart after she passed.

Her story about the glass of water and her boxer is so true of this breed. I just lost my Boxer girl to cancer a little over a month ago. She was 12 yrs old and was more like having a daughter. I have so many stories like that water glass story about my dog. They are such a strange breed (in a wonderful way). I wish I would have known Boxers could herd, it makes so much sense. Knowing my girl she would have loved it. Maybe someday I will share my heart with another Boxer, but my heart is shattered right now. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you

Oh..M.. G! that water story made me tear up. I have had 5 boxers in the last 30 plus years and my third one was like that. I bought her for my son when he was 2 years old and trained her to watch him when he was outside playing. She would sit in the front yard and watch him play. But if anyone would walk by or another dog, she would get up and be in protective mode. She wouldn’t let anyone get close to him. She passed after 13 years. That was the saddest day of my life. My other two after have also passed and they were brother and sister. I am looking for a sixth boxer now, they are such wonderful dogs and have a heart of gold.

That’s pretty inspiring to see this woman’s passion for her dog and her desire to use a dog that’s mainly as a pet (maybe protection) and to put a utilitarian purpose. I’ve had dobbies, Great Dane, amstaffs, lab, great Pyreneese mixes and an Anatolian and nothing beats a working dog out of all of the lines. That lady gave her dog a purposeful life You

I took my Border Collie to a herding aptitude day in Northern California one day, just as an opportunity to get my dog on sheep. While we were there, someone had a boxer who was really amazing. I had no idea they could herd. The boxer in my mind was third in aptitude behind borders and Aussies. I still remember that boxer to this day.

Oh my, my, my. Who would have guessed this was THE boxers' vocation. It all fits into place now, after all these years of wondering how it was that such a perfect, beautiful, loyal and intelligent breed was good at everything BUT NEVER the best at anything. I am a farmer and so, over the years, I've had lots and lots of dogs, and I also happen to be one of those freaks who "whispers" to anything that walks, flies or swims. Lol. But it never clicked on my head that the 3 boxers I had, when I was very young, could have been great to help with the herds! Instead, we used to tell them off because they used to pester the sheep, the cows and specially the pigs. Boxers do have a particular connection with pigs... I am eager to investigate about that! So, thank you very much Reegan Ray, for having illuminated me. I'm gonna get me a couple of good boxers ASAP.

24 years with Boxers. Once you have a Boxer in your home, you realize you never understood just how aware, observant, highly intelligent, nurturing, intuitive, manipulative, loyal, caring, gentle, rationally fierce, astutely proud, tidy, loving, and sharply comical a dog could be. I’ve had German Shepherds, Doberman, English Mastiff (omg 180 pounds of pure sweetness, love and loyalty, but unfortunately not the sharpest of breeds), Pekinese, Shih tsu, Chihuahua (😐🔫)... not a single one of them could measure up to the diverse and apt Boxer. I will always have one Boxer in my pack, but two is better if possible as they work well with one another. #ObsessedWithBoxers #ImOk #Wow24YearsThatsCrazy

Aditya Colvalkar I don’t breed dogs. Sorry. One thing I’ve learned, the more expensive the boxer, the more health and temperament problems they seem to have. I’ve had the best luck with breeders who do not breed as a main source of income. My two best boxers came from farmers who bred so they could have healthy and smart working dogs for themselves.

Amelia was our family dog and she loved each of us individually, but I was always the big dog person in our family so she and I had a much closer relationship. She was extremely intelligent and had this way of loving a person with a depth that I've never seen in any other breed and I've seen and spent time with most breeds in the U.S. and maybe this was a fluke but other Boxers I've known have been similar and I've always felt like they had that special bond with there owners as I did with Amelia.

I love the video I’m thinking about getting a puppy. I love the breed as well. I purchased a German boxer in Germany, had them for years. He was so smart, he pushed his mate away from a car during hurricane Matthew, and was killed as the result. That was many years ago, but now I want to get another boxer since then I started a farm. I was thinking about herding with the new boxer puppy.

My neighbor's boxer would herd cattle. Just rather sloppy, but he did it. It was natural for him.

The Image on my profile is Shoguns Assassin from Cloverdale BC in the early 80's one of the male pups from Hanna the bitch 55 -65 lbs and a stud dog called Bouncer overweight maybe 90 lbs from Aldergrove BC a farm boxer , Shogun being a fawn with stripes back then and too much white they said was a odd combo but yet he won some provincial small shows but imo one of the most unique and solid looking dogs ever , We also kept Samurai warrior my childhood dog same litter a big 85 lbs athletic brindle and flash male and was a stud dog and was bred maybe 3 times in BC , real good size athletic and healthy aged boxers and love to see some history on papers and I do have all the original paper lines starting with I think Kevin Reid or Reed from the UK Britannian Kennels . If anyone has any paper names or trails would be nice to hear back from . and I do have some nice photos of this line and some paper history on my families companions . Thanks for the video been waiting for some good boxer stuff on this page

well...it’s my third generation of herding boxers in this vid. But i do think a well bred boxer can be trained and used on stock. Many lines out there breed for biddability for sport. It’s a balance of hunt/prey drive with superior temperament that’s the key!

Those sheep must be very athletic, constantly under pressure from training of numerous herding dogs on them. They would demand to double up their salaries if they were humans

I know they say Bulldogs were used for bull baiting, but I believe they were also kind of a rodeo clown. And that's what the King saw in Enland when they were first mentioned. Not that they weren't there for a long time before. Bull baiting came as vile entertainment.

@@hankwang2951 No. True breeders will health test the parents of the puppies. Health tests determine if the parents will be more prone or less prone to certain diseases. If the parents and other generations were cancer free, then most likely so will the puppies.

@@wuerzelburg I had a boxer growing up. It shouldn't matter whether the breed is "primitive" or not but the love and dedication that the owner shows to the dog.
