To be honest, having Looney Tunes shenanigans as a super power is a pretty strong and underrated one.

Recently Oda revealed the Luffys devil fruit isn’t the rubber fruit but the rubber hose fruit instead meaning he can behave like an old rubberhose popeye style character. Also totally agree that it’s a hyper underrated power :)

8:40 The directions to the factory of Supernatural Lollipops Inc.? "The Unknown" was ACG's company-wide term for a sort-of-Limbo afterlife where dead folks go and supernatural stuff sometimes comes from. They used it pretty consistently in their other books and non-Herbie stories. So he pretty much gets his lollipops from three miles west of Heaven, which probably explains why the factory worker has angel wings.

One part of herbie that confuses me is who owns the copyright, since the company went defunct in 1967, its possible that herbie is public domain (though i wouldn't use the character without solid proof)

All you need to do to understand and to enjoy this comic is two things, 1: a suspension of and in disbelief and 2: a child like mind, imagination, and sense of innocence because this character and these stories are from a time before comic books became so serious and before people started taking them way too seriously. So in conclusion just accept and take these comics and it's main character for what it is for the sake of fun and joy because that's what they're for. P.s in my opinion the modern world needs more comics and more characters like this so the comic book industry and other readers can lighten up and maybe more comics like these can bring both love and fun back into comic books so comic books can be great again.

The modern world is a vile place at the moment, due to world leaders woke far left agendas. It's in every day life, tv, movies. I'm staying in the 60s decade, it was fun, safe, and had freedom of speech.

@@raymondlang That's true 👍😄, however I was told by some of my elders that the 60s and 70s is when and where the ideas 💡 of the extreme left is where it started, but then again the 60s must feel safer to you because that's probably where you were younger, just like how I was born in 1992 and how I sometimes wish I could go back to the 90s and stay there where feels safe to me.

The way you describe the comics, it definitely has a lot in common with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Some of the plots can be too ridiculous for words and the way the characters solve problems can be so nonsensical, but to the reader, with the in-universe rules, it just makes sense. And it's so popular BECAUSE of the quirky way it's written. It's serious but doesn't take itself seriously.

*i cant believe i've never heard of this character before, but more importantly, **_i cant believe it's silver age!_** moreover, i have a feeling this has been far more groundbreaking and influential than anyone has mentioned. like i said, i'd never heard of it until now, so when i saw the thumbnail i instantly thought this video was about **_daniel clowes._** but ofc impossible bc clowes was born in '61, so this was probably one of his influences even though he has never confessed it in any interview. he always mentions **_charles schultz,_** although their styles are nothing alike ... go figure :-\*

Let's all try and spread the word of Herbie. What comics character is more palatable to modern meme sensibilities? It oughtta be fairly easy to start some kind of resurgence in popularity. (Which could, potentially, lead to a revival of some kind. Not that we want that, but I'm just saying.)

To the best of my knowledge, the Herbie copyright is owned by Charlton Media Group. So, no...he wouldn't be in the public domain. CMG, also owns a few other ACG characters. Although, I don't recall who they are offhand. All the other ACG material I believe is public domain.

Hard to find? If you live anywhere in the United States, the Dark Horse reprints are readily available through your public library. Even if your local branch doesn't have them (and they probably won't) they can easily get them via the interlibrary loan system, and there are (or were, ten years ago) close to a hundred copies out there in the network. And honestly, having read them, you'll probably want to buy your own. Worth every penny.

I have to presume, much like Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons back in the day when these comics were out, and I grew up with them. The kids after me didn't find them interesting or flat out didn't get the humour and fantasy in them! To complex for them! Couldn't figure it out. Same reason Rocky & Bullwinkle got taken off the air! I still have all my Herbie Comics! I'm 66 now. Still enjoy & read them over the years! Shame.
