Was just listening to Chameleon. Terri Lyne is laying on the funk, pulling back the beat -- you want it so bad, but she won't let you have it ! So good...

Herbie, your opening words , yes, wisdom, philosophy, the world of advanced technology, warm sound, amazing piano, the idea origionally for cantelope island and watermelon man, hero groups, here and Japan, Stanley Clark, Wayne shorter, Chick Corea, love the drums and effects and synth. This technology is Art, beautiful creation. The future can use pure good reasoning and knowledge, no war, in communities morality, guidance, nurturing, health, of youth. Few people can can teach your advanced level of musicianship. Thank you.

There aren't enough jazz musicians experimenting with electronic music. Most of them are content to play variations of the same old shit the masters played 60 years ago. Cats like Herbie not only have the chops to outplay most anyone but the creativity to see outside the box when it comes to jazz.

There aren't any jazz musicians experimenting with jazz at all. No more Chick, Miles, Jeff, Lyle,, Weather Report, Mahavishnu, Stevie Ray, Yellowjackets, Stanley and Pat have gone in a new direction.

There are a lot actually. They’re just not being played on your radio stations. Jazz was mainstream and America’s popular music back in the day. Now, the ones experimenting and using electronics don’t get as much shine these days. You have to search for those artists. Check out Kamasi Washington’s latest work. And Terri Lyne Carrington’s Social Science album (the drummer in this video) Start there.

It’s electronic/jazz fusion.. I know the other guy said fusion, and that’s not wrong, but a lot of times people think of just straight fusion as jazz rock/rock jazz.. Herbie did some of that in his career, is maybe best known for his funk fusion (so more funk with jazz, than rock with jazz) which differed a lot between the 70s stuff and 80s… and of course he’s known for straight jazz. But this period was really a blend of the “electronica” and ambient of the late 90s/early 2000s, with the jazz he’s always killed at since 1960… ✌️
