Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Wade in the Water Video 1967
Музыка
Here's an extremely rare video clip from Herb's 1967 Singer Show called Wade in the Water. Enjoy.
P.S. I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Herb and Lani play at Blues Alley in Georgetown Washington DC 12 May 2008. The show was absolutely spectacular. After all these years, they both still have it: the skills and the love. Truly a remarkable show. Herb and Lani, thanks to all of the wonderful years of warming our hearts with your great art work. You both are truly blessed as well as I was at your show.

So glad I was raised in the 60s.
So glad my dad had Herb Alpert and TJB albums in the house in the 60's
I remember this from TV. Never get tired of this clip. Wish they had taped all their songs this way.
In the mid-to-late 60s, Herb and the Brass were pretty much the brass/instrumental equivalent of the Beatles. Really. Seriously.
this song clearly shows how cool these guys really were

Yup
In the 60s Herb was right up there with all the best sellers. Five #1 albums, plus three more that made the top ten, plus three top 10 singles. The first then-modern pop band my mom liked as normally she never cared for most rock and pop music of the decade. Any more this great music makes my eyes watery these days but it's happy onions.
I love Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass. Great Music..
Best version of this song I ever heard. I describe it as a relentless, infectious, saucy/smooth, cool

This is like a time warp, seeing this again. Love this song.
my parents had TJB albums when I was a kid,but I had no idea what a tight band they were till I saw this. Thanks for posting this awesome piece!!!!
Everything about Maestro Alpert is Genius! Look at all the joy that he has brought to the world.
Great video ! Real musicians.....excellent !
Great song. One of my favorites on his 8th album. Saw him once in 1975 in New Jersey. Unforgettable concert!
These guys are very cool, lucky to have this music this around.
We love watching and enjoy the people having fun together, when we get into the mood it's like we are there.

I don't know if you still receive replies after 9 years but what you said is so true and we love it too. My lady and me love this music and our shoulders often get wet if you know what I mean. Rest assured they are happy tears.
I just love the opening guitar riff and it's continuality in the song. My 2nd favorite TJB song (#1 being their version of Walk Don't Run) You're lucky to have found this rare gem. Gets me teary eyed to re-live that era again with this music. Just wish my elders were still around.

My kidtime , I love the 1960's and the work of HErb Alpert & Tijuana Brass.
Miss my mom & dad soooo much!!! R.I.P.
Miles Davis: "Three notes and I know it's Herb Alpert."
Growing up in Boston as a child, Herb is all that I listened to....I was lucky enough to have seen him 65/66 at the Boston Garden with my aunt and grandmother while being 7 yrs. old. I will never forget it. thank you for posting. Joe in NH.
Always a fav of mine in live concert....you don't hear this stuff - and 'back then' I was a rock and roll young adult but this was ultra cool and I listened to all of the LPs...going to hear them play at the Hollywood Bowl under the stars was a great treat! Still is....was there tonight! 55 yrs and still sounding great and making me smile!
I love the audio recording of this. It has such a great vibe to it and is really well-engineered. This mimed/lip-synced/play-along video is pretty entertaining too.
Thanks so much for posting this video. One of the greatest songs by one of the greatest musicians/groups of all time.....I really appreciate it. You helped bring back allot of memories... warm regards, Joe in Merrimack, NH.
my favorite rendition of this song-love it-thanks

One of those unforgettable tunes for me as I liked it so much when I first heard it in 1967 when I was twenty one. Still very good and nice to hear. One of those tunes I shall keep hearing whenever I get the chance.
I REMEMBER when this aired originally! Nice to see and hear it again!
..I am 34 and I became a fan of TJB just few weeks ago searching for Rise and Route 101.., really it's a classic this type of music...

Elavator music ? No way. It's not just for listening to. Better to relax and feel, it. That's one of the reasons Herb Alpert is so brilliant.

this is truly cool. i appreciate it
They could have extended that jam indefinitely, starting at 2:20, and I'd have loved every minute of it! (For a long version for the LP!)
Art Bushagen was filling in on the Dean Martin show for Tonni. That video has got to be one of the earliest for the TJB - even Nick's mustache isn't grown out.
...he should definitely go on a major tour of the U.S. He doesnt need the money, but it would be great seeing him live and to new generations. My was 1979-1982 when i got to know his music.
Essa música é linda
When I see this video I always want a Fender Electric XII
Desde que escuche la música de Alpert exactamente en el año 67 y del Lp "Going Places", quede encantado con ella y este instrumental que pertenece al Lp "Sounds Like", también hizo que la apreciara todavía mas.
he made this moody, cool yet driving music
Hello; I saw that special in Perú in 1969 summer. There was no DVDs then, I didn't know they sold the video ever. Moreover, we have the show sound recorded on a Gründig semi-professional recorder.
Herb just got done touring with his wife Lani Hall and the live shows were great.
I believe u already😉
That is absolutely true....
Herb Alpert silks it, said Miles Davis one time. I'ts always cool to see Herb swinging while playing his trumpet. He was truly a leader with the TJB, especially whenever he directed with his hand when the music has a modulation, or a change . He and Pat, Bob, Nick, Tonni, John, and Lou were truly in their heyday, and above and beyond in the charts by 1967. I wish there was a Tijuana Brass tribute band, with some quality musicians who would recreate the way those albums sounded. They would be authentic players, and use a Camco drumset, complete with a Nick Ceroli and Herb lookalike. You would also need a Pat Senatore, Bob Edmondson, Tonni Kalish, and John Pisano. That would also mean, you need a Fender Electric 12, and a P Bass. Anybody game?

this was his band later on but when he first started recording the Wrecking Crew members were the ones who played
" Hey guys how bout playing wade in the water..." "Yeah" "Heyyy yeah" "Lets play it" "NO...I MEAN YES." "...Who said that?"
super finish :)
@wannawatchu66 Guitar, bass, drums, piano (the whole rhythm section): all Italian. "The Musical Mafia", Herb once called them.
love the version by Andre Crouch but this one Rocks too
wonder can he do hip hop so cool
@phlegmwatcher If you don't like it go watch something else if you can't show proper respect. He's one of the all time greats and he's been a true inspiration to me. Maybe you'll like my band's updated version of the classic Herb Alpert song "Tijuana Taxi". Most people say our video sounds as good as the original (and they are probably right).
Why did Herb have such a rough time finding a second horn? Seems they kept switching around and out.....any one know? I played the horn for forty years and loved his stuff.... Anyway, just asking....

In his touring band Tonni Kalash was his second horn but, in the studio he always overdubbed himself for those precise harmonies. Herb was a perfectionist. When I say perfectionist I don't mean to imply that Herb was trying to shine the spotlight on himself but on the overall sound of the music. He would feature the other musicians regularly and even in the later years he would feature other horn players when he was looking for a style that he was not suited to play. A class act from a real musician and artist. Herb Alpert is a class act and responsible for kindling my love of music.

For sure. Although the singles didn't do as well as the albums, still most were top 10 on the Adult Contemporary charts and thus sold very well. Lots of them out there. I kept almost all my 45s and older LPS.

There is a new post that has a great arrangement of Winds of Barcelona/El Presidente. Do a KZread search for "Herb Alpert Dean Martin"... this clip has 2 tunes "Bittersweet Samba" and WOB/EP. Not sure who the second trumpeter is... it's not Tonni.
Too bad it was lip synched. These guys were great, live!
@divine6699 No, they're mostly Italian, actually. You sound like you just discovered this.
I once saw somebody say that Herb was not really playing it because his mouth did not move-they referred to that Black Guy that swelled up his cheeks with air-I could not help but laugh at their ignorance-Herb had perfect embochere - He trained correctly unlike Dizzy Gillespe- anybody that ever played any kind of horn knows you train your cheek muscles to remain flat-thereby you have better control and get correct sound every time- there is more to it-but I know that much from High School band-saxaphone
@stevedaley7929

Have to agree. Gillespe was an imperfect horn player. As a trumpeter myself, I know about perfecting "embochere", not armature. (You're forgiven.) The trumpet is not an easy instrument to master. Takes years of constant practice and even then it is very easy to make a mistake. My hat is off to the ones, Alpert included, who make it seem like second nature.

I played trumpet for a few years as a kid, and know what a bitch of an instrument it can be. Herb himself had difficulties playing towards the end of the Tijuana Brass era, due to incorrect habits that caught up with him. Some live clips from 1969 are a bit painful to watch, because you can hear his poor tone, he's missing notes, and you can sense his frustration. He broke up the band to concentrate on running A&M, but also to take time off from playing and take lessons to correct his embouchure and playing habits. You can hear the difference between the last two original TJB records from 1969-70 (The Brass Are Comin' and Summertime), where Herb's tone is weak, and the comeback album from '74 (You Smile, The Song Begins) where he sounds strong and confident again.

mitch rawles I loved this group as a four and five year old. Great arrangements, good musicians. BTW, they are NOT playing this live. Maybe that's why someone said it looked like he wasn't really playing, This is just staged for the video, a common practice. Herb could play but this was sort of "lip synced" or faked to the original studio track.
