INFO:
Before 1930, the area where the park is located today was a swampy area that was drained between 1930 and 1935. On this occasion, the problem of arranging the entire free surface was raised, also taking into account the fact that the Arc de Triomphe already existed in that area.[5] A few dozen poor homes and an industrial enterprise were expropriated, alleys were laid out to make way in May 1939 for the largest green space in Bucharest at that time.[6] The designs for this park were made by the architects Ernest Pinard and Friedrich Rebhuhn. Friedrich Rebhuhn, a German landscape architect who worked in England, France and Switzerland came in 1910 to Romania, where he was offered the position of head of the horticultural section of the city of Bucharest. Cișmigiu park is linked to his name. From 1922 he supported Queen Maria in organizing the activity at the palace gardens. He remained in Romania.[7] Fr. Rebhuhn, a talented and prolific landscape architect, contributed to the creation of the plant composition (trees, shrubs, flowers), and the Romanian architect Octav Doicescu designed the alleys.
At the entrance to the Village Museum in Bucharest, a memorial plaque recalls the great hydrotechnical works that were carried out, under the reign of King Charles II, for the creation of Herăstrău Park and the entire green area in the north of the Capital, in the years 1932-1937. under the direction of engineer Nicolae Caranfil. The text says: "Under the reign of our King Carol II, the Mayors of the Capital being Dem Dobrescu, Al. Donescu, in the years 1932-1937, the Colentina marshes were rehabilitated, the Băneasa, Herăstrău, Floreasca lakes were built, through large works at Buftea, as well as the diversion of water from the Ialomița river, in order to heal the capital of the country and beautify This work was done by Uzinele Comunale Bucharest, being Eng. Nicolae Caranfil.
