Good morning River. My 20 year old daughter recently returned from her first trip to London (from Sydney). She always tells me she can never understand my love and respect for the Royal Family, and doesnt see what the big deal about them is. She called me one night extremely excited, because she was doing the walk down the Mall to Buckingham Palace and she saw a motorcade of cars and motorbikes rushing towards Buckingham Palace. I used to live with some English nurses in Perth, Aus. One day they told me they were going to see the Queen who was in Australia at that time. They didn't seem the type to be Royalists, and I wasn't that excited about it myself but tagged along anyway. I was so glad I went it was such a beautiful day, in Kings Park, at the war memorial, and one of my favourite singers performed. Even though there were quite a few people there, it seemed quite small and intimate and the Queen made a great speech.

Re: DBeckham… the admiration wasn’t that he stood in line for 12 hours. He was admired for waiting his turn when he could have bypassed the long line as many celebrities had done. It is naive to assume just because he is an athlete, standing for 12 hours isn’t a big ask for him. I would imagine as an athlete, his physique has taken a beating and standing in line for 12 hours was far more difficult than many realize! Honestly the late Queen did well. Why change a precedent that she had set? She always gave titles upon marriage, and at that time she too was duped like the rest of us and believed M when she said she would be a team player. The two in Montecito chose to go about their life their own way, and the late Queen and the rest of the royal family let them do what they want. Sadly, this couple can’t let go of royal life. They keep forgetting that they are now private family members of the royal family. Once William becomes king and his children marry and have children of their own, Harry and his family will be extended family members.

Dear River, I am surprised your comments on the letter to a King of Nigeria did not include the following: 1) it should have been addressed to the person (defence minister?) who I invited them; 2) that it should have begun “Prince Harry and I; 3) that she refers to herself at least nine times; 4) that she doesn’t mention Harry unless it was as “we”- what an insult to her own husband; 5) that she addressed the Ling as his “Imperial Highness” when it should have been “Your Royal Highness”; 6) that it should have been about the gracious people of Nigeria who made Harry and her feel welcome. When I was a young “Typical dumb secretary” I had no idea I had more brains and knowledge than the average Hollywood starlets of today. My work lead to me a career in the Ontario Legislature where I learned huge amounts of political writing and Royal protocol. I went on to be an English/art teacher , now semi retired. It irks me that so many young people today who have the opportunity to meet heads of state, do not have the wherewithal to write an appropriate letter of thanks. I’ll get off my high horse now and wish you all the best in your upcoming election and hope that regardless of which party wins, they uphold the monarchy as a guiding light. 🇨🇦

Mr Harriman should be aware that Marlene Headley's charity - and I'm not completely sure it was actually her charity, but anyway - was in fact NOT dedicated to 'protecting women that are survivors of domestic violence'. It very specifically is only dedicated to protecting black women of African heritage who are dv sufferers. I'm not sure how that isn't racist, but apparently it's allowable.
