Her Story Teaches Us the Right Way to Educate Children Today | Formal v/s Informal Education.

Rashmi Bharti runs an NGO named Avani, along with her husband Rajnish and hundreds of people of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. They started working with a solar program initiative which later got expanded into a sustainable textile program and other verticals. See more at avani-kumaon.org
This video is about Rashmi’s own struggles as a mother, to educate her daughter at a small age in a remote environment. After exhausting all options, she decided to open an entire school for her 3 years old daughter to be able to educate her the way she wanted to. When I met her, this subject just happened randomly during our conversation and I realised that this is a great story that needs to be told. Hope this will be of help to parents of young children and humanity in general.

In an era when social media is full of 10x growth folks, financial bloggers , travel bloggers , cuisine bloggers and all other nonsense content creators this video talks about some deep thoughts which is actually the need of the hour. A simple like would be injustice to this video. Such an inspiring woman! We need people like her around us to make this planet soulful.

I left Delhi in 2015, established a library in my village Surana, Ghaziabad. Though, Ghaziabad is almost urbanized, but somehow we are stll a village. Now, I have a daughter name Prakriti, getting close to 5 this year. Despite of the great pressure from family I didn't admit her in any school, coz I was thinking to make my own school since long like in the video you just shared. You have no idea how happy I am to see this video. Keep up the great work.

I accidentally stumbled onto this video as it popped up on my YT feed. Having read the likes of Jiddu Krishnamurti, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Sir Ken Robinson, I was already familiar with the concept of alternative education and its value. So I was keen on listening to her to know what she had to add to the topic. Half-way through the video I felt a sense of connection to her choice of words, thoughts and views. I hope one day I get to meet her or people like her just to have a conversation. She comes across as wise, thoughtful and kind. Her dream of a more kinder world lives through her words and deeds. It appears like life has taught her wisdom through experience (anubhava) and she is able to give back that wisdom to others in a practical way through her organisation and work. We need more people (leaders) like her in this country, especially in villages.

She is really setting an inspiration to many, the students they’re dealing with is the absolute right age! Baccho ko kam age se he behtar banane ki koshish karti chahiye. Otherwise they don’t learn or realise anything in their teenage and above. Everybody saying we need teachers like her. But most of the students who are so called adults or teenagers never understand the intention of the teachers. Yes, not all teachers are good but there are some really good teachers in our schools and colleges that need lot of recognition and respect.

Wish I could be this positive about life someday. In the hustle bustle of everyday life we have forgotten our true selves. Everyday there are new mountains to climb and we just keep on climbing without thinking the purpose that why we really started. There is a mad never ending race. It was so soothing to listen to this lady because her thoughts are so pure and simple. She is connected to her true self and what she is doing is so fulfilling, I wish to be aware of my calling and working for it day in and day out. It is rightly said that Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!

to all the travellers..kindly take note of this Supporting Local Businesses: Accommodation: Opting for homestays or locally-run guesthouses instead of chain hotels injects money directly into the community. Dining: Seek out local restaurants and cafes serving traditional food. This supports local farmers and preserves culinary heritage. Shopping: Buy souvenirs and crafts directly from artisans and local shops. This promotes local talent and keeps traditional skills alive.

Teachers are asked to focus more and more on finishing the unreasonably huge syllabus. The more I read and go through our ancient traditional culture, the more I become sure that those were the right ways to move forward in life. The village, the Gurukuls, the rituals and traditions, the festivals and the way of life, everything was already perfected and here we are, tried a new and modern way, failing miserably and talking to go back to our roots. ❤❤

This video is beautiful...i as a mother is constantly struggling with my childs education and my restrictions of being a working mom ...i think in a way like Rashmi Bharti does but i do not have her courage .. and also realize that time is flying by and watch everyday how me and my kid is being a victim to these do called methods of surfacial education

Insightful video... Thinking about other people is so rare these days... I feel children should be taught basic lifeskill first... Like Cooking, Stitching, Health and exercise, Herbs, identifying the plants, growing some veggies, basic electrical repairs, plumbing, driving etc...i wish i learned few at early teenage...I know everyone cant master everything... But definitely having some knowledge will help in life a lot...

Thanks a lot mam and to the ethereal team! I'm in highschool, and believe me day by day it had been getting tougher for me to enjoy the studies at school, even though I was made to believe by the society around me that I was a scholar in academics. Following this change in my perception, I thought of whether a world could exist where education is different. This is like a dream come true, even before it was truly visualised. You're an inspiration, truly!

Beautiful video; being a unschooler Mom I can relate for so many things with the host, raising a self aware human being is tougher than raising the herd of sheep. I hope next you will include the unschooling / homeschooling community of India .

Incredible...Yes we need more such people but why cant we also become like her. Why can't like minded people join and start such alternative schooling in their areas in their homes. Take children to the nearby park for nature walk and activities. All it requires is a blackboard and paper and pens. Nothing grand. Nios will provide the degree...so at least your children will be learning alongwith retaining their innocence and some basic values...in schools its a different story. Lets start a revolution. Lets be the change you want to see in the world. Hats off to the lady for being a role model and the channel for bringing such stories to us. God bless you 🙏

Fantastic! Such great achievements in her life. I love the way she said that it's the parents who need teaching, because it's so 100% true. That was, of course, a key message of Krishnamurti throughout his life. W'hat an impact she's had on human life. Love it.
