This reminds me of my first time. Had a friend deliver the bike for me. The following day I couldn’t wait anymore for him to come through and coach me. So I slapped my full gear on. And started just by riding the clutch. Just before I knew it. I was doing 10km/h then jumped into 2. The rest was history. That was on 3rd of March this year. Z800 Subbed.

@@moonglux953 at least you were wiser than me. That’s a good way to start. And you progress quicker. 113hp for a beginner is a lot. I’m just soft handed, so I barely opened that throttle. I had a few months to ride then I had to leave the country. I was progressing good, though. Was riding out with no issues. No stalling. And started lane splitting on my 3rd/4th day out. 😂 Congratulations on the Ninja, bud. Happy miles and keep both wheels on the ground. All the way from South Africa 🇿🇦

What a great teacher you are - awesome to see how she gets going on her new bike. She will love her new bike, when she gets it on the roads. I have the exact same bike and love love love it. It is a perfect beginners bike - so forgiving. But it is definitely not just a beginners bike. It has so much power and speed, so she will be happy to ride this bike for years. It handles everything really well, even freeway speeds. One tip - I changed out the wind screen for the rubble bubble from amazon. What an improvement for freeway riding. I would do that before changing the exhaust. It gives a much better ride.

Very good teacher! I remember there was a few people who had a hard time at first in our classes. I feel like a 15-30 minutes class 1-on-1 or even just in a tiny group of 2-3 students with a good instructor like you like that would have gotten them right back up with the rest of the group! My #1 tip to new riders is always to look where you WANT to go, and NOT where you don't want to go. At 4:15 this is exactly what happened. the bike veered left a bit, because at low speeds bikes are not stable and you have to be way more active on keeping your balance. If she kept looking straight, she would have corrected the deviation almost naturally, just like we do with bicycles. But she got "scared" by the deviation to the left, and she probably started looking to the left, which is totally a natural reaction, that we have to change as motorcyclists. It's actually important with any motor vehicles, even with cars, but with bikes it's even more important because of your balance. Most people who can't do a tight u-turn are not lacking skills, they are simply not looking at the correct spot. That's how I fixed my own u-turns which I sucked at for the longest time! I'd be scared of running wide, so I would look at the curb I'm scared of, or the parked car I don't want to hit. The bike goes where you eyes are pointing. if you look at it you will hit it. Don't look at the car. Look as far inside your turn as your neck will let you.

Great first bike! I found a year-old Z400 at my Triumph dealer that already had all the T-Rex sliders and engine guards on it, for my wife’s trainer. Nearly the same under the bodywork as the Ninja. Truth be told, I have a blast riding it myself, and took it to track day, last fall. It’s light and docile enough for a new rider, but still capable enough for and experienced rider to find enjoyable. BTW, if you don’t have them yet, helmet coms will simplify the learning process, for both of you.

Even as an experienced rider, this is my favourite bike! It's not the fastest, but it's the most fun! if you get a 1000 SS... your first gear is enough to get you into trouble on the highway... This is utter useless, and you can never actually ride the thing hard... The Ninja 400 is the perfect balance of power (it still hauls ass when you need it to), but the power and the gearing makes it that you can have a LOT of fun in 1st and second gear in town, and still stay legal-ish! This is not a bike that will scare you, this is not a bike that will achieve sub 10 seconds on the quarter mile... But it IS a LOT of fun! Also the registrations AND insurances cost me pennies cause it's a 399, which makes the bike not only cheap to buy, but also cheap to own!

It’s making me uncomfortable not being able to flat foot it and I haven’t been wanting to practice on it until I have it lowered 😕

I also don’t want super thick soles boots/shoes bc that will make it harder to shift and just not my style. I hate having the need to go lowering it but I guess that’s my only option 😕

Good day. I'm a newbie and planning to buy my first bike. I will be attending the Honda Motorcycle Safety Course. I'm just riding an MTB all my life. I was impressed by Quennie riding the Ninja 400. I'm 5'10" , 100 kilograms. will I start with a 200cc Naked bike, or jump to a 400cc Naked bike, like the Ninja 400? In the Philippines, only motorcycle above 400cc are allowed in the Expressway/ Highways. Thus, all motorcycles below 400cc will take the traffic infested national roads. Thanks for reading and replying. Ride safe. Stay safe.
