HENRY WINTER URGES NOTTINGHAM FOREST TO STAY AT THE CITY GROUND | WHY HE IS BACKING NUNO

Matt Davies is joined by renowned journalist Henry Winter to discuss his views on Nottingham Forest's season, why Evangelos Marinakis is not a bad owner and his admiration for Nuno as a manager and a person. He also urges the club to stay at the City Ground as Marinakis publicly states his desire to move to a new stadium. #nffc

    To dismiss corruption with so much certainty when admitting that he has personally witnessed 2 occasions himself is shocking. The refusal to acknowledge the possibility of corruption is the exact attitude that allows it to spread. Clear Communication and transparency are integral. Premier league is in danger of destroying itself. Greed is rife. Where huge sums of money are present corruption is sadly inevitable. Its incredibly dangerous and naive to suggest there is no corruption.

We have a dozen players off our hands in just 6 weeks (though some, like Aina and Boly, hopefully will be offered new contracts) -a great chance to re-shape the squad.

    Important distinction for sure. Also for Winter and his ilk at the top of sports journalism to feign such abject horror at the mere suggestion of corruption of officials is pure gatekeeping. We live in a society where Catholic priests have abused children for decades, politicians on the take continually, big banks taking money from Mexican drug cartels (HSBC). And yet we're expected to believe football with its global multi billion industry status, betting companies everywhere to be seen, proven corruption from FIFA/UEFA in the past... but our lovely refs and VAR officials could NEVER be corrupt?! Don't make me laugh! Real fans and people who know how this world works see right through this journalistic gatekeeping. Other than that, nice pod 😁 Peace out ✌️

    I’m torn on this. On the one hand he said “stay at the city ground” for all the reasons we have talked about (the nostalgia/ the atmosphere/ the feel good feeling it gives everyone). But I’m the other hand he says top managers “won’t come to the city ground” and Nuno is “right for your level”. He says he doesn’t say this to be patronising, but sadly, that is what it is. I don’t want to leave the city ground … but football is supposed to be a competitive sport. What’s the point if we basically are saying we will happily accept mediocrity forever… With no hope of competing. It’s really difficult, but for all the flattery and nostalgia and kind words, this also raises in me those feelings of “but why does Forest have to accept its station?” Marinakas wants us to revive the best of our history - but to do that, we can’t stand still. What if better times and better memories and even better atmospheres could be created in the future? But we had to have a bigger vision to grasp it?

    A lot of very good comments and an excellent vid. However, I think you missed an opportunity there. HW, like so many pundits & media persons, completely missed the point of the Everton rant. Just looking at PL games under Nuno, in the first 14 games there were SEVEN controversial calls that went against Forest - basically one every other game. That has a debilitating impact on players, managers and coaching staff (and the owner, too). It was particularly notable how much Nuno had to try and control his emotions when all his efforts and those of his players and staff, were undone by consistently poor officiating. After the Everton match you could see how he and Neco were devastated by not being awarded any of the 3 penalties, similar to many that have been awarded AGAINST Forest, and they are required to face the media and NOT say anything controversial or be charged with 'bringing the game into disrepute ' by those who actually doing precisely that! No accountability for the officials. I remain convinced all these poor decisions materially affected team confidence. Including Everton, there were 8 games where we disadvantaged by the officials. One of those games we won, the other 7, all lost. It is reasonable to suggest Forest could have had a minimum of 7 points from those games and, with the confidence gained, I would suggest we would have accrued further points from non-controversial games we lost. So, with those 7 points plus, say, 4 points from the n-c games and without the 4 point deduction, that would mean our points total would now be 44, a respectable total with 3 points still up for grabs. We all now how important confidence is in football; just look at our promotion year under Cooper! I contend we have lost out significantly due to poor officiating and that Mr Marinakis was entitled to make a stand on the issue. I, for one, applaud his intervention but the way the media immediately reacted negatively to it says much about their inability to read what he actually said and their ignorance of the background information that perpetrated his explosion. After all, he is also trying to run a business where consistently poor officiating has cost him millions and yet he has no redress (other than the usual apology from PGMOL - how many of those have we had this year? I'd love to see a table of clubs that have received apologies this season).

  • @Shelts0
    @Shelts017 күн бұрын

    Why do we believe our game is corruption free? There is a load of cash in the game. It is beyond belief that there is no corruption in our game. I am not saying the corruption is solely to the detriment of our club, or even that there has been any corruption that has gone against us. However, to think with billions of pounds washing around to say there is no corruption is burying your head in the sand.

  • @daffa80
    @daffa8017 күн бұрын

    Really interesting insight, but also a bit annoyed by a couple of his points.. The thing is, that the main issue isnt VAR, or referees quality on it's own.. Its the bias, the way decisions favors the "big" clubs. The way PSR regulations are rigged for status quo, and to be honest, listening to supporters from clubs like Liverpool backing on our stand against VAR Is only annoying. For years they have benefitted from Salah, Jota, and so on diving around winning soft penalties and only had a few bigger VAR failures going against them.. VAR has to be AI driven to remove bias.. before its fair on all clubs.

Goal line technology has been with us for ten years, successfully. I don’t understand why the very first thing the system doesn’t do is draw the line even if there isn’t an offside call. Then they can look at whatever else needs looking at. Most of the messing about looking at this that and the other, most often irrelevant, is what is wasting time. Oh, and the communication between ref and VAR needs to be 100% broadcast to the fans.
