The Last of Us Part 1 Remake - Henry and Sam Death Scene
Joel and Henry talking about past memories before the outbreak. Joel, Ellie, and Henry are all in the main room talking while Sam is in the other. Ellie goes into the other room and Henry is seen taking stock of the food that they have. Ellie notices that Sam is particularly upset, and they have a deep conversation of religion, becoming infected, and their roles in the world. After they talk, they both say goodnight and spend the night in the radio tower. They all wake up, and Henry is making breakfast. Ellie decides wake Sam up for breakfast, only to discover that he had been bitten in their latest encounter with the infected, and had turned overnight. He attacks Ellie, and Joel goes to shoot Sam, but Henry shoots the gun out of his hand, concerned for his brother. Joel retrieves the gun again, despite the gun threat from Henry. A gunshot is heard and it turns out, Henry shot Sam. Henry, in a state of anger and grief, first places blame on Joel and points his gun at him. Joel tells him to take it easy, and that this is nobody's fault, but Henry changes his mind and chooses to shoot himself instead, ultimately committing suicide

The shows portrayal reminded me of just how much I was shook when seeing this for the first time. I flicker of happiness and it’s snuffed out right as you start to think it’s there to stay

Why the hell did they downgrade this masterpiece to a show? I came back to this scene after watching the one in the show to compare and the contrast is staggering. Here you see Henry going trough the five stages of grief in six seconds and you can imagine Joel is praying to god or something when henry point the gun at him. Even the way he blows his brain out is more believable. There's something about live action just making it inferior.

I actually like the dialogue here better than in the show. In the show, Henry says “what have I done” instead of “it’s all your fault”. I think that him saying it’s all your fault adds way more tension to the scene because you initially think that Joel is really in danger of Henry pulling the trigger on him because in that moment, Henry was so traumatized and angry over the death of his brother he blamed the only other person there was to blame

Yeah I think in a way when he said “It’s all your fault” he’s actually talking about himself.

I wonder how the story would be if Henry and Sam survived with Joel and Ellie I wonder if they would have gone with them to meet the firefly’s

This was so much better than what we got from the show. Show was good all around, but man... guess you just can't beat the source material.

Actually I just watched this after seeing it in the show and thinking "I swear this was better in the game". Turns out I like the show's version more. I thought it was longer in the game, more conflict, a deeper and more dramatic moment after Sam's death (like Henry wanting to kill Ellie, too, since she could be infected, as well, or him just suffering for a while until klling himself), but seeing this again after that many years they are pretty similar.

@@Ambar42 I like the game cutscene way more because how raw and cruel it is, no goodbyes, no sentimental end for the characters, just an spontaneous death in a fast situation. I find it fits better in the concept of tlou and its world.

The first game was so well made, and the story ages like fine wine, how it went from this to the sequel is beyond me, the sequel was horrible and plagued with creative issues especially the ending, the premise behind the story was great, but it lacked something special the first game had

It's only sad in the show. In the game, you're glad that Henry's dead because you know it will make the game easier. He leaves you for dead surrounded by armed psychos and getting chased by a truck with a machine gun turret. All he has to do later is open a door in a room swarming with clickers, stalkers and runners, and leaves you to clear the room without offering help before he deigns to open it. He is no help whatsoever in a part of the game where you have to take out an entire army by yourself, including a sniper, plus the same machine gun truck already mentioned, and the only thing he does there is get himself killed without putting a fight up, if you take too long taking out a wave of assailants. A completely useless NPC put there purely to wind you up. At least Bill, for all his unpleasantness, is good in a fight and knows what he's doing.

You clearly have no knowledge first of all when he and Sam left him to die in Pittsburgh he knew he had a chance to make it out and he saved Joel and Ellie from drowning second of all he did not leave you to die Joel triggered a trap door and separated him from Ellie and separated Henry from Sam Third thing is Henry was a distraction for the sniper so joel can get to him you fool.

Both are sad Actually, Henry tells to Joel if he would’ve come back to save them, Joel says nothing, of course, he’s just trying to protect his brother, something Joel recognize because of Tommy. And even Joel addmit that he’s not proud of what he did in order to survive that world.
