Thanks for adding your comments, it is much appreciated. This is an unusual product in that it has known weaknesses but at the same time people are prepared to take the risk as it is very competitively priced. It will appeal to those people who are prepared to maybe do a bit of upgrading or tinkering to get it working 100% as you want it. But before buying, you have to accept that you might have a few niggles and if you are okay with that then the product will most likely satisfy you. Remember that in addition to the HG-P417, there is also a P409 variant (civilian colours) and the P410 version (based on the Ford body shell rather than Toyota).

Nice, simple and honest review sir. The best thing about the car... The appearance specially the oversized differentials. But I loved it. Thank you very much for sharing. Now, I need to have one hehe. And subscribe.

Thanks Gary! The High Lift always seems to split opinions and has many lovers as well as haters. One thing you can't deny though is that the Tamiya product it clones has got very expensive to buy, especially considering that it is quite an old design now. I also have a Tamiya High Lift that I have had for many years now but I like the HengGuan product as it comes RTR at a reasonable price. If you are not a fan of the camouflage paint (I think it looks great), you can also get a white or black version (known as HG-P409, released after I made this video). There is also a clone of the Tamiya Ford High Lift truck called HG-P410. Hope to see you around, best wishes from BlackSeaRC!

Thanks for commenting! The HG-P417 is one of those trucks that some people love and some people hate. I guess the Bruiser clone (P407) is the more popular choice. The P417 design is quite old now so it is more of a trail truck and can't compete with the latest crawlers. Yes, it is a clone rather than a true Tamiya High Lift but you get a lot of truck for your money. It feels heavy and has lots of metal parts plus it has 3-speeds and 4WS so the engineering has to be appreciated. I also made a video of this truck in action by the river, you can find it by checking in the "1:10 Scale" playlist. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer.

I'm pleased you liked the review and it is great to welcome you to BlackSeaRC! The HG-P417 is an interesting RC truck but it definitely splits opinions - some love it and some hate it. Clearly it is not the best performing truck on the market because it is based on an old Tamiya design, but you certainly get quite a lot of truck for your money so I like it. I'm also planning to look at some other new RC trucks in the near future including some more capable crawlers. Let me know if there is something specific that you would like to see on this channel.

Great review! Definitely not a super crawler as you say but for trailing and general off roading it's a decent option if you want something a little distinctive and different. It's the sort of truck you can take with you when you go for a walk, it will cope with trails and forest paths just fine. I subscribed!

Thank you and welcome to BlackSeaRC! I agree with what you say, not everyone wants a dedicated crawler that can go over the biggest rocks but a competent off-roader that is great fun in lots of different types of terrain. This truck makes a great starting point for someone who wants the Tamiya style without the huge price tag and can be upgraded as and when you desire. Furthermore, if you lock the diffs it will probably go further than you ever expected!

Thanks for watching! The video was filmed in the Krasnodar region on the Russian Black Sea coast. The Caucasus mountains are found here and there are some fantastic places for driving, filming and checking the views. Just waiting for some snow to reach the lower levels as I haven't had the opportunity to see how the HG-P417 performs in such conditions yet.

I am planning to get one, but having second thoughts on the build quality of HG, my p407 has some minor issues, like rounded hex screws.

You are right, there are some build quality issues with some HengGuan products and the P417 is no different. At the moment this product is only available as a RTR package rather than a kit (unlike the P407). I was unsure what to expect and was expecting to experience some quality issues. After all, this is sold at a much lower price than the Tamiya High Lift. For the price I was happy with the quality overall. If you watch the first part of the video you will see some of the quality issues I found. I felt they were minor but there are obviously variances in the build process. Also be aware that a lot of people change the bearings although it is a little early to say if this is an issue with this model as well as the P407.

This is literally a tamiya hilux highlift but for less than half the price and these come ready to run unlike the highlift that stuffs extra I had a highlift years ago it was alot of money to buy the truck as a kit mind you and buy all the electronics I probably had 700 dollars in it this is a total bargain for the price

You are right, when you buy the Tamiya kit the price soon adds up, especially when you have to buy multiple servos and all the radio gear. Of course, there are some advantages to buying a kit. You can make sure it is fully assembled to a high standard and because you have put it together yourself, you better understand how it works and how it goes together. You may also choose to upgrade certain parts at the time of build (e.g. bearings) whilst it is easier to do so. You can also select electronics to suit your particular requirements. However, as you say, the Tamiya product is significantly more expensive to get up and running, close to 3 times the price I'd say. The question is whether the Tamiya truck is better than the HG clone or not. Electrical components in the HengGuan truck are basic. As for the quality of the other parts, I'm not sure. I have had a couple of breakages of plastic parts and I have seen suggestions that the clone uses lower grade plastics. However, I can't be conclusive on this. Visually, it looks and feels the same (I also have an original Tamiya Toyota Tundra High Lift). Unless you run both products side-by-side in similar conditions and one breaks and the other doesn't, I think it is hard to say whether the parts are the same or not. In my opinion, the price is very competitive and you get a lot for your money. You don't get a modern high performance crawler but you do get a scale realistic trail truck that can be upgraded as and when your finances allow. So in this respect, I like it. By the way, I have recently ordered a new 1:10 scale high-performance crawler kit from Cross-RC (not yet on sale in USA or Europe), along with a nice selection of upgrade parts and all the radio gear. I will be building this truck up in the next few months and fully testing it. So if you are interested to check that, it would be great to welcome you back to BlackSeaRC in the future. New subscribers are always appreciated!
