My wife and I took our little neighbor ladies to visit the lion habitat a year or so ago..., such a great experience..., when you're in the middle of the habitat and the big cats start roaring across the way to one another, it will give you cold chills..., amazing animals and God Bless these folks who care for them.., they weren't born in the wild, so they certainly can't be returned to the wild. Highly recommend Lion Habitat!

When I worked for a security company that was contracted with ADT to do alarm response in the early 1990's, I received an alarm call for this property. This was back when it was a single house surrounded by a tall fence. I almost went inside and became Purina Lion Chow or a chew toy. The hairs stood up on the back of my neck as I was getting ready to open the main entrance gate and looked and saw a pride of lions underneath a tree in the shade. It was shortly after sunrise. The alpha male lion of the pride looked at me with the look, "Don't even think about it, a...hole." Back then we didn't have the Internet as we know it today plus ADT dispatch didn't warn me that it was a property with actual lions. It would have been nice if they would have posted signage on the gate, "BEWARE OF LIONS." Then again, this was perhaps a trap for the stupid. This was before or about the time Yahoo was created. The ranch at the time was strictly private. It appears in the almost 30 years that it has developed into a zoo. I haven't been back there since my close call with the lions other than when I'd frequent the M Resort. Back then the area was not developed and the small ranch was the only building around for perhaps a mile or two.

It was. I was hysterical when I radioed dispatch I was clearing the scene. I'm no Steve Irwin plus I have no desire to harm animals other than hunting wild boar or pig as they're pests plus I like bacon, ham and pork. The animal is just being territorial. I learned after that alarm call if there's a tall fence around the property and there's no golf driving range, tennis court or other sports area requiring a high fence that there's a potentially dangerous exotic animal on the property and just do a parameter search for a possible intrusion. Granted if there's an exotic dangerous animal on the property and there was an intrusion by a burglar, chances are I'd also find a body. I don't know if the lions tripped an alarm or if it was a malfunction of the alarm system. I didn't receive an alarm call from the property or any other property with a tall fence potentially housing a dangerous exotic animal. Having a pride of lions surrounding your property is a pretty good burglary deterrent if you ask me. --- Wayne Newton's animals on his former estate (Casa de Shenandoah) would regularly get out and cause traffic jams as animal control and law enforcement would have to capture it. It wasn't uncommon that a peacock or wallaby would get out and cause havoc in the Pecos Rd & Sunset Rd area. A former roommate of mine caught one of the Wayner's escaped peacocks and handed it over a fence to one of the Wayner's staff. Fortunately Wayne's World animals were harmless. I have no problem with people owning exotic animals, just keep them properly contained and enclosed so they don't cause a problem for the public or me.

Hi Mitesh! 6-7 cats were transferred to them from facilities that couldn't keep them anymore. The rest are from the lions that were originally at the MGM Lion enclosure, and some of their offspring. The facility discontinued breeding in 2015.

Hi Jayla! Yes, the giraffe is adorable! I'm glad you got to see where he hangs out...he is not confined to his painting area as someone suggested, he has a long walking path on the other side of the wall and gets to be in the sunlight all day if he chooses.

Hi Georgena. While I prefer to see animals in their natural habitat, I'm not sure what the best solution is for the animals once their circumstances have been created by humans. What is the alternative for the animals? At this habitat, they are housed, fed, kept safe from hunters, and can live their retirement years out safely. They are not forced to perform; maybe just stand up tall to get a snack. I do appreciate that the owner is taking care of these cats because there are plenty of worse alternatives I can think of.
