Jaundice i.e yellowish discoloration of tissues can occur due to accumulation of excess bilirubin. It can be of 3 types based on the causes; hemolytic jaundice, hepatic jaundice and obstructive jaundice. Based on the investigations of serum and urine of the type of bilirubin which accumulates and that which is excreted we can differentiate and diagnose the cause of jaundice. This video describes the types of jaundice and the types of bilirubin elevated in each type

For part 1.10 i think instead of 'urobilin' ,it should be 'stercobilin' that is excreted out along faeces and gives brown color of faeces. Urobilin gives yellow color in urine.

My brother has an unconjugated bilirubin level of 8.4 and total bilirubin of 9.08which is very frightening. What might be causing this . Can the report show false positive ?

@@PhysiologyOpen but the reports one month back had indirect bilirubin levels around 2 and 1.6 respectively. Can today's report be inaccurate?
@PhysiologyOpen
11 ай бұрын
Why such reports are being done on monthly basis?is ther any other issue. If any acute condition is there, then reports may be correct. Is there yellowness of eyes and urine. If no, take the test again. Might be wrong report
@senpai1628
11 ай бұрын
@@PhysiologyOpen he had yellow eyes and then we went for the tests in a doctor's clinic last month . Total bilirubin level came out to be 3 and it was diagnosed as jaundice along with low hb of 9.6. We had the same test conducted today and the hb came out to be 12.3 but total bilirubin had shot up to 9. Very puzzled since we thought he was making a recovery. Urine is not yellow,only skin and eyes are slightly yellow . Sorry to bother you, but it's freaking my mom out
