Ойын-сауық
Hello and welcome to another video podcast.
In this video I’m chatting with Daniel George from Honour and Arms HMB club in Rochdale Greater Manchester.
Daniel is the owner of Honour and Arms HMB club and is also the current Captain of The Northern Wolves medieval combat team.
During the interview Daniel speaks passionately and authoritatively about his love for the sport of medieval combat.
If you ever wondered what the difference is between HEMA and Buhurt then this highly enjoyable and informative interview is for you.
Thanks for watching and why not check out the other videos in the HEMA playlist.

i apply fiore de liberi in buhurt, grappling, leverage and lock-ups it works well with 2 handed weapons. Try THEM BOTH!

It is a great resource, especially with a 2 handed weapon.
I explained it to a guy as "Nerf/lasertag = Larp", Hema/SCA = airsoft, buhurt = rubber bullet military drills."

This is actually a fantastic way to convey that message of how hard or relaxed it is. But casual standard Airsoft like wear base gear to fight would be Hema, and SCA is more bulk up and make sure you don’t run any risk to get hurt.

I think it would be better to compare HEMA to something like Judo or BJJ - they are very focused on the technicality of the fight, with rulesets which facilitate a 1 on 1 combat situation to exhibit skills. There isn't a lot of focus on the group aspect within HEMA, which airsoft does tend to have. There isn't really a comparable ranged combat sport except perhaps hunting or target shooting in terms of technicality.
Great interview and a good look into this amazing sport, thank you !

this is awesome
Out of all the films mentioned 300 is unironically the most historically accurate. I will die on this hill. Great interview. Enjoyed this one

300 was totally inaccurate. Spartans looked nothing like what was portrayed (e.g. long hair), they defendedna pass while all the other Greeks who were not shown in the film retreated, and fought because they were ashamed of not fighting a previous war with the Persians that the Greeks won.
Awesome!

Thanks Damian.
There is new ruleset in Russian HMB which allows thrusts and count them as "clear victory" (ippon) if they were made in weak spot of armour, but weak spots must be guarded with chainmail.

Was this the experimental harness fighting category done at Rekon?

@@user-td1mo4ff4c I do recall seeing this as an experimental category but didn't touch on it in this podcast as we talked mainly standard Buhurt and duelling.

@@user-td1mo4ff4c None offense taken. I appreciate the sport is advancing to incorporate harnisfetchen events more but being outside of my expertise I did not talk about it.
That was really informative, thanks for the video

HEMA is actual fencing, buhurt is beating each other to a pulp until you get concussions
I fucking hate buhurt

Why?
@saultecumseh5237

@@HoratioHuffnagel because this is not medieval combat. This isn't even HEMA. The point system is screwy those aren't places you would Target in real combat. I appreciate the amount of stamina it takes to be a fighter in buhurt but in all reality it's just LARPing to the next level. Go to the pool and slap people with noodles if the same thing

@@saultecumseh5237 I've never understood the devision between Hema and Buhurt. The buhurt duels are scored like many Hema tournaments, and the melee is its own thing entirely with its own skillset. The club I'm in does everything frum buhurt to military Sabre so we all get a decent variety of training, it's just sad there aren't many tournaments outside of buhurt duels and melee and Hema longsword where I'm from.
Unfortunatly there is lots of midinformation in this video
