Thank you for the reaction, and that’s so nice of Kalandra. :) I think my favorite part of this top-notch version is the “outro” or last two verses. I prefer Kalandra’s atmospheric singing of them, as opposed to Wardruna speaking the words (sorry, Wardruna/Einar, it’s a really close one). - - - Who will sing me Into the death-sleep sling me When I walk the road to Hel And the tracks I tread Are cold, so cold I sought the songs I sent the songs When the deepest well Offered drops so mighty Of Valfather’s pledge I know it all, Odin Where you hid your eye Early or in fading day Still the raven knows if I fall When you stand by the gate of Hel And when you must tear loose Follow you I shall Across the bridge of Gjöll With my song You will be free from the bonds that bind you You are free from the bonds that bound you [Håvamål - The High Ones' Speech, Poetic Edda] Cattle die, kinsmen die You yourself will also die But the word about you will never die If you win a good reputation Cattle die, kinsmen die You yourself will also die I know one thing that never dies The reputation of those who died

Having the opportunity to see these phenomenal artists live without having to cross the Norwegian borders is a blessing; Aurora, Kalandra, Highasakite, Angelina, Sigrid, Susanne, Emilie, Dagny, Astrid S, Sissel, Frøder, Anna of the north, Jenny Hval, Ine Hoem, dePresno. Marja and ISAK (both Sami) traditional music with a modern soundscape. The interest in Norwegian music is great abroad, this applies not only to those mentioned above but also in genres such as metal and jazz.

So glad you two finally heard this. That end part is so hauntingly beautiful. Discovering their music and watching their solstice livestream provided some much needed joy during pandemic lockdown. Makes me happy to see others discover them too. Lullaby live from Storas is another great one to check out some time. That's so great that they reached out to send you a signed vinyl to replace the one you lost. That just makes me love them all the more.

Right!? Up to that part I was battling myself on if Einar did it better or not, but the end of version just completely rips my soul out. A fantastic appreciation of the song.

This song and the poem at the end helped me, as well, to realize my own mortality ... it is one reason, among many, that i'm on a path to give up unhealthy things in my life ... like senseless drinking, thoughtless eating etc. Wardruna&Aurora as well as Kalandra will haunt me until i'm free of all that weights me down.

It is a beautiful version it smooths over some of the brutal darkness of the original ...reminds me of the scene in LOR 2 where the Shield maiden Eowen sings at the internment in the burial mound of her Uncle king Theodens son/nephew? before they have to leave for Helms deep.

I heard this version before the original, and I immediately fell in love with it. Having lived in Scandinavia for ten years, I really adopted the Scandinavian Viking/Pagan/Folk music. It's so beautiful. This version is incredible.

I saw Kalandra in Glasgow in February and it was an unforgettable experience. I would not have missed it for the world. They were the support act, and they overshadowed the headliners by miles. I'm so glad you loved Rhos version of Helvelgen, it's so emotional. By the way have you heard the song "Churchyard" by Aurora, another brilliant artist from Norway?❤

Yeah, Kalandra. It was this 'Helvegn' cover that brought me more than two years ago to them and ever since, they are an absolute favorite band of mine. They will join Wardruna on their 2022 European Open Air tour and, if Corona permits, I'll have the privilege to experience them in my country, performing in a Roman Amphitheatre as venue. Katrine already joined Wardruna earlier this year, when they presented their latest album 'white raven' in a virtual event. Love your reactions by the way.

At last! I had suggested it back then! This version is at par with any version Wardruna has released, with or without Aurora. Simply love it! And I particularly prefer Kalandra's ending over the way Einar does it!

Wow. Didn't think it would be as good as Wardruna with Aurora. And in the beginning it didn't look like it for me at all, but it gets better over time and different from the original. I almost find it even better. But that may be generally due to the fact that I find this type of music with female voices better. And Aurora was just a featuring in the original.

I don't know if you take requests but I'd love to see you hear this song I rediscovered. It's called Runnin' by Naughty Boy which is probably unusual for this channel and viewers but the vocals are beautiful and production (plus the music video) is a real gem and still gives me goosebumps. It's a British style track with some D&B in it, and would understand if its not your cup of tea lol

Mike and Ginger, are you familiar with Julia Westlin? A lot of her music is sung in a cappella. She's backed up by her companion David. One heck of a beautiful voice. Both Julia and Dave are YT discoveries that fell in love. I believe she moved from Sweden to live with him in Canada. kzread.info
