Public fishing rights
Everyone has the right, free of charge, to fishing rods and ice, and to fish for herring with one rod with vertically movable hooks attached to the line.
Everyone who has paid the fishery management fee and everyone under the age of 18 and over the age of 65 has the right to engage in lure fishing. Chapter 9 provides for the fishery management fee and its payment.
The rights referred to in subsections 1 and 2 above do not apply to the rapids and stream areas of migratory fish waters, nor to those water areas where fishing is prohibited pursuant to other provisions. For angling, ice fishing and lure fishing competitions and other similar organized events, the fishing right holder's permission must be obtained.
The provisions in subsections 1-3 above also apply in water areas owned by the state.
