Honestly, this is exactly the type of content I want to spend time watching. Family coming togather to help each other and being gentle, because it's the right thing to do and it's how we should remind each other to act. Love!

I’m glad they respectfully folded and put donations in a box. I can’t stand to see people throw clothes donations in a trash bag like trash! They arrive a wrinkled, crumpled mess at the donation center. Show some respect for the nice clothes and the donation center peoples!

I want to hug your mom! 💓 The two of you are so loving, caring and respectful of each other's feelings. She so reminds me of my mom. Their items are so neat and tidy and, after a while we don't see the items until you put it someplace else...like piled on the bed. The Class of 1994 T-shirt is amazing! My mom also had many USA shirts and holiday items. Great Job, Mom!

I love this video and the way you all gathered together and went through all her clothes. It got easier as you went. I’m 76 and have always bought a lot of clothes and a lot never wore. It did make me feel good to donate so some one else could enjoy them. I also was watching some videos of older ladies. One said to shop your closet. It’s been awhile and I found three pretty dressy tops that I’ve only wore one of them once in ten years.I went to the Drs office and she kept saying how pretty I looked! It felt new to me and I had to laugh because I should of been wearing a lot of my clothes that are just sitting in my closet and give some away for someone else to enjoy! You’re a very special family! I felt like I was right there with you! Thank you and may Gods bless you all! I love the way you bought your mother two new pants! So sweet! I’m going to sort my jewelry too! 🙏❤️🕊🌸🦋
Aw... this was so gentle, sweet to do for your mom! Mom you look good in your new clothes !! You should be very proud of your decluttering that you did...and you did it so well ! I am your mom's age, and when I de-cluttered my closet I wanted to throw myself on the floor and have an anxiety attack. I am also a retired teacher and had some of those same "school clothes". When I saw you started out with those I yelled, "NO NO" don't do that to her! But your mom was a real trooper and I admire both of you for getting it done. I was also happy to see you rewarded her with the new hangers. I did that also, and it made it feel like a great reward in and of itself! Good job, ladies!

this is fun! I usually tell people to put sentimental items (e.g. tshirts you don't wear but want to keep) in a storage box, not in with the clothes you wear every day in the closet or dresser. This way they're stored and safe, but don't take up space in the areas where functional items are stored :)

Since I retired a little over a year ago, I have helped my 83 year old mom declutter a lot of stluff from her home but clothes didn't get decluttered too soon because she loves her clothes and was very resistant to decluttering them until later on. She had a lot of long shirts that she didn't need to wear anymore because she couldn't wear high heels and there was a good chance she could have tripped on the shirts. But she finally let go of about 4 trash bags full of shirts and blouses last summer. Prior to that she let go of about 3 trash bags full. She was also running out of space to store all of her clothes. She was buying more and not getting rid of much.

I’m so excited to see you all help your mother declutter with her assistance. My siblings and wanted to help my mother declutter her closets, however, she wouldn’t let us. Now my mom is dealing with dementia and she definitely won’t allow us to get rid of anything (knowingly 😉). I have to sneak things out gradually while she’s at the Senior Center. My mom has lost a lot of weight as well, so most of her clothes are too big. She has a lot of fancy outfits that she refuses to give away. She said she’s not dead yet! It’s so overwhelming for her to pick out an outfit, so she has the tendency to where the same thing several days in a row. Her short term memory is really bad so she doesn’t recall wearing the outfit several times. I applaud you all for simplifying your mother’s closet and life. I’ll keep trying. It’s been extremely difficult to see my mother transform to a totally different person. 😢

Just discovered your channel by chance. I loved this video for a lot of reasons. Primarily because your Mom is funny. My late Mom taught school (K-1) and kept "too much stuff" that pertained to looking fun or silly for her classes. I grew up in a house with Mom, her folks, and all of us had ONE closet, a door-sized area that we kept clothes for all weather! How did we all in the US get to so many clothes? LOL. I've gone through mine a few times. Our women in the family's rule? If it's not flattering anymore, donate it. Thank you for bringing up if the item was a gift, don't feel guilty. Great tip. Love to you all - hug your Mom and have fun together. Mine's been gone since '09, but her funny spirit stays behind. She made her own Mother's Day cards, photographed with silly outfits each year. The inspiration for this was the book, "Mother" by Judy Olausen. I think you'd all get a kick out of it; it's very funny. Thanks...Christie/Angry Senior

@@theroadtosimple Yes, the good ones are very creative. I'm sure your Mom falls into this category. My Mom made "Easter bonnets" out of construction paper - and they were tied with yarn. Each child decorated the construction paper as he or she saw fit. The big "bunny" ears stood up. In our family, it was one closet like that per bedroom, except the master bedroom where my grandparents each had their own closet. I hope you look into that funny book I mentioned. I think your Mom would find it funny. Take care.
Lovely interaction between mum and daughter. Can I suggest you buy some quality hangers. Dry cleaning wire hangers are the worst possible foundation for hanging clothes long term. I’d suggest flocked hangers that are absolutely flat but sturdy.

I'm overwhelmed too. She had everything hung so nice. She could have tried a different approach. Pulling all her favorites out & putting them on the bed, till she had about half the wardrobe on the bed. Then put all the stuff that's left in one rack & hang her favorites back on the cleared rack. Then deal with the not as favorite rack. Maybe keep some things or just box it all to go. She's got a ton of nice clothes, she'll never wear them all. I think it's easiest to deal by picking all your favorites 1st because that part is easy & gives you perspective!

This was such a sweet, wonderful video. Most of the decluttering videos I watch are younger daughters helping younger Moms. But my Mom is 80 now and she wants to declutter. There is a story to each item, that she remembers. I just sent her this video and she called me to see how to turn the sound up on her phone. So precious and we laughed. My Dad is also still kicking around at almost 86. So tonight he went to a local casino for a bit. They have a smaller home now. My Mama, like yours, has lost some weight and now has issues with buttons and zippers due to surgery several years ago. Heck she may read this comment. So she talks about decluttering and the "stuff" keeps her up at night. We went through 1/2 of a shed several weeks ago and I made it a point to tell her that was all we would do that day...1/2 a shed. If it rained we were going to work in the laundry room. So this was well done and so nice that your sisters played a part in supporting her through the process. The pics of her in the new pants at the end were adorable.

Awww - thanks for sharing about your mom! And Hello Mom if you are reading the comments!😀 Be sure to comment again and let me know how your decluttering projects with her are progressing! Thanks so much for watching and sharing!
She needs to get velvet hangers. Let me tell you a trick that helps out in the brain that helps with decluttering. Always lay a white sheet on your bed. When you lay stuff on the sheet and you start to declutter, you see white underneath instead of a pattern and it tricks the brain into thinking hey... I'm getting somewhere faster. if you see a pattern under the clothes as you get to the end it just looks more jumbled. If you see a white sheet, then you have something to look forward to and it looks clean. Hope this helps. Also, at the end .. COUNT the items that are donated. This makes the person feel better about giving it away instead of keeping it and never wearing it.

When we were getting ready to move, I helped my 90-year-old mom declutter her clothes closet. We started with the major wardrobe pieces, then chose items that coordinated with them. She no longer wore dresses, so those were easy to part with. Next we picked out the slacks that fit. Then we chose tops, jackets, and sweaters that went with those pants. Other than a few pairs of shoes, two purses, and some accessories, everything else was donated. She still had plenty of clothes she enjoyed, and it was easy for her to choose her outfits each day.

Yep - I believe it! Once you seriously declutter several times you’ll find that the 20% goes up because you only have your favorites to choose from. 😊 Thanks so much for watching hung and commenting!
Working on my whole house. Enjoyed the support and tips

Thank you so much! I know - it is very hard for most people to let go of things, myself included. Just continue to be gentle and loving with your encouragement ❤️
You are definitely a loving help to your dear Mama. It is very hard to let go of things - even if they do not fit or you no longer like.

The matching hangers made the whole closet look polished, WOW. Where did you get the hangers? Your Mom was a trooper, it's usually very difficult for the older generations to part with things, having the depression era mentality. I am excited to see some of your other videos. Great job! Hi from Central NY🌼

I agree - Mom was a real trooper! We got the slim velvet hangers at Sam’s. I think they came in a box of 50. We also picked up a few black velvet slim suit hangers (with clips for pants or skirts) at TJ Max. I left a few empty plain wire hangers in the very back back just in case she wanted to keep them - but a few days later she asked me if it was ok if she removed them. 😊. I’m really proud of her! ❤️. Thanks so much for watching!

Hi from WNY. My mom and I are struggling with this. My mom was raised in the depression era and does not want to let anything go even though they no longer fit or are worn out. It’s a challenge.
Blessings blessings always
