HELP THE HOMELESS, PLEASE WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO.

Today, I visited a local homeless camp. We all hear stories or make assumptions about how someone ends up in this situation, so I decided to drop off a few small donations and meet some of those living there.
Are there people battling addiction and mental health problems? Of course there are. But many are trying to overcome these issues.
There are also people there simply due to unfortunate things which happened in their lives.
I'm not judging or offering solutions, I'm simply trying to provide a few sleeping bags, some handwarmers, and a radio. A solar charged power supply would also be huge to this group of people. So, let's make it happen
Hopefully, a solution to this situation can be found before the Newfoundland winter sets in, but in the meantime, please give what you can.
Any money left over will be donated to a local charity, I will also donate any money I make from this video to a local charity.
PLEASE LIKE COMMENT AND SHARE THIS VIDEO AND MAKE IT BLOW UP

This is good stuff, boy. You're the best kind! I'm living in a city in Ontario where the homelessness issue has exploded in the past 3 or 4 years. It went from about 350 to 2000 people since COVID. Part of our issue here is the somewhat 'open hand' that many charities and non-profits have had, but that has drawn in many new people from the surrounding area and even from other parts of Canada. There's quite a few men that get sprung from prison and they ask for a ticket to here, because it's well known to be a soft touch. At least it was until the system got overloaded. One of the unfortunate things that has also happened is that many of the 'local' poor people are the ones living in the tents because (they tell me) the shelters have become vicious and violent places to stay. One of the things our city has done recently is change the way people are put on waiting lists for social housing. What that means is they've decided to look a bit closer at applications and try to match people better to the types of housing they need, be it high maintenance, or supported all way to fully independent apartments that are 'geared to income." I think your new friend falls in that group- someone who just needs an affordable, safe place to live. There's always a story about how people got where there at, and you did a good thing here by telling this one.

Thanks for your reply and describing the situation in Ontario. I don't have any solutions to offer or judgements to make.. Just hoping a radio and a few handwarmers might help

@@angling_arrows Just a few minutes ago a friend posted a story about how many volunteers and people working to help the homeless do not feel safe doing it anymore. The drug use leads to mental illness and that leads to violence. The modern drugs are something no one has ever seen before. I'm sorry to say it, but there's only so much we can do for the people who are truly 'at the bottom.' Many of the really need a bed in a psychiatric hospital and some intensive treatment. But that's a problem bigger than a small city can tackle. I'm suggesting we "aim for the middle" and think about things like small cabins for people who don't need to be watched constantly and who might be good neighbors for the other people living in these types of "Small Home" type communal living areas. And even that is just so people have a place to sleep and a door that locks until more permanent and sustainable housing can be had.

I totally agree that it can be dangerous, and many need professional help. I am a career firefighter, and EMT see people at their worst on a daily basis. This little bit of help I'm offering here is without judgement amd isn't going to solve any problem. But today, when I was hugged by 2 grown men because I dropped off a am/fm radio It reinforced my belief that little things matter

Times have changed! It's not just the addicts, crazies, bums and winos. The problem now is lack of affordable housing and low wages.

  • @angling_arrows

That's 100% part of the problem, the other stuff still exists, but lack of affordable housing is relatively new. I was recently in Reno and Denver. The amount of working people living in their cars was staggering. It's becoming a global problem

Just subscribed to your channel to follow any further updates and will share the video. It's a sad state our economy is in and it's getting worse. There is a crisis happening and there needs to me immediate action by the governments (all levels) to rectify this matter yesterday, not look into it it needs to be fixed now. I'll go through my gear and see if I got items I can drop to the site.

Some people "choose" homelessness... often due to drug addiction or mental health problems or both. However a lot of homeless people are simply falling on bad times, sometimes through no fault of their own, and lack the resources to keep a roof over their heads. I have seen it happen to too many and really appreciate a neighbor helping neighbor effort like this.

I agree sometimes people do "choose" as you say. However, sometimes things happen. either way, I'm not judging just dropping off a few things to make "today" a little better.

What a great thing you're doing, hand warmers are very smart because they can help dry your gear. But what a sad state of affairs when the economy fails to benefit everyone living in the country, and people have to rely on charity, then what is the economy good for, only to benefit the winners of some global competition? We're living under the false pretense that we have control over our lives when really we're at the mercy of an economy gone off the rails. What good is working hard for a company when the money you're paid is worth less every day? Better to know how to live off the land... If we don't address cost of basic living soon a lot more of us will find ourselves living in tents in the city.

Homelessness is Big Business where I live. Administrators get huge grants and make over $100 ,000 to "help" homeless stay homeless. Instead of asking us for money why don't you ask administrators to take a pay cut?

Hey man Im sorry but homelessness is a choice in this country, there are ZERO legitimate reasons to be homeless here. Theres plenty of work or government programs if youre between jobs.

  • @angling_arrows

I agree there are government programs available, but sometimes they just aren't enough. I agree there are lots of jobs available in st.johns however its often impossible to pay $ 1000 a month working for $15/hr. There's a shortage of low income housing across North America.. Could some people in this camp find other options, yes. But some can't or just haven't yet. Either way I'm just trying to make "today" brighter... No judgement no strings

I'm sorry but you can't understand the whole story even if you think you do. Have you ever done the math on minimum wage compared to cost of living these days? It's often a choice between rent and food and that's on a good day. Nevermind the cost of clothing these days! If a person has any extra expenses like medical or family or unexpected mechanical or home maintenance... If a person making minimum wage has to take any time off work... It goes from barely keeping your head above water to drowning in the blink of an eye. While it's true that we have some government programs aimed at helping people through these crises, the truth is they can be extremely difficult to access, if you even know you qualify for them that is. Not to mention that so many of those welfare benefits are often revoked without warning on a technicality. And don't assume that everyone is capable of holding a job, because many people aren't and it doesn't make them any less worthy of your respect.
