The moment I'm sure hooked many of us into the One Piece series. When a crewmate's in trouble the Strawhats will stop at nothing to save their own! Truly a heartfelt moment.

I love how Luffy might not know all about the characters he meet but will help anyone who clearly need it. Shows how Luffy has a heart of gold and cares for the people around him.
Luffy and Nami's interaction in this scene already made me tear up, but seeing Zoro, Sanji and Usopp quietly listening and immediately accepting Luffy's order to throw hands with Arlong actually made my tears fall uncontrollably. I admit, I'm a sucker for these types of scenarios in stories where a crew or family etc. help one of their own, no questions asked.

I mean it’s probably been said before but this moment really solidified Luffy’s character for me. He didn’t interrupt Nami, he calmly waited until she asked for help because he knew she needed it. Then proceeds to liberate her entire island with his crew. It’s difficult to capture how good this moment in anime is. No fighting, no huge animation, just raw unfiltered yet perfect emotion captured. ❤

People who can't at least respect this scene have no sort of peace or resolve in their life. Life is hard, you can't always get what you want. One Piece is silly a lot of times but then at times like this, is when things become epic.
What sells this scene besides Luffy’s determination to help Nami is how she is surprised that he WANTS to help her even after all she said and did to him and the others, and how he trusts her with his hat, his own treasure.

Props to Nani’s VA for this scene. It always brings a tear to my eye to see her just break down here.
“Of course I will!” this moment still brings tears to my eyes today
The immense amount of pain that radiates off of two words is stunning. Luffy’s actions are just as equally impactful. To put his hat on her head means he considers her a crew mate despite what has happened. Never before or since has he taken off his hat and given it someone when he was preparing for battle. Even now (in one of his most important fights) Luffy still has his hat on in Gear 5.
@alastorcorvus

I'm a newcomer, I'm at chapter 233 at the moment, but Luffy constantly gives Nami his hat every now and then, he gave it to her during Skypeia to climb the giant plant and during some smaller moments, also to Usopp during the Foxy crew games. I think that after this point Luffy shows how much he trusts his crew by giving them his hat every now and then.
The definition of loyalty: that despite being told to leave you know the truth and will not abandon them
The thing I love most about this scene is that Luffy didn't know anything about nami's past. He just saw her crying and that was enough for him.
The best part is how Zoro, Sanji, and usopp are just waiting
Wow, I've never seen this anime scene before. I'm in tears right now.😭 I've watched the 'One Piece Live Action show' and even though the Luffy/Nami scene had me emotional, the scene from the anime is even more of a emotional gut punch.
I suppose it's probably obvious to say, but there's something really powerful about seeing Luffy put his hat down on Nami. It's like a way of saying simultaneously - you're super precious to me and also I will protect you. I thought that moment was very sweet.
Luffy: "Is that an Arlong tattoo?" Nami: "Yeah, but it's removable." I jest, but this is still one of the best moments in One Piece despite how early on it is. And it doesn't come out of nowhere. We've seen Nami be very capable up to this point and do everything on her own with relative success. Which is why her breaking down and finally asking for help hits so hard. And the idea that the greatest cat burglar finally managed to get Luffy's greatest treasure of Luffy's own free will.
@Nova-3-

It's not simply that Luffy is giving nami his treasure, but giving it to her then in that circumstance is Luffy trusting nami to keep it safe and give it back... As a member of his crew.
Simply one of the greatest scenes in all of fiction. Every chill that the body can produce arises no matter how many revisits this is given.
This moment is important. Not just for the context of the story, but it applies to real life too. At this moment, the most painful hurdle for Nami to get over was to actually lighten the load off of her own shoulders and ask for help. Of course Luffy's immaculate ability to judge people's character, he knew she was pushing away. He who knows how important it is to rely on others, (he even admits how helpless he would be without help later) he naturally knows how self destructive it is to burden everything yourself. So he works to liberate Nami from that mindset by simply waiting until she acknowledges that she simply cannot do this alone. Whether she likes it or not. In a way, it's what I like to call one of Luffy's many selfish acts of kindness.
the most emotional impactful one piece moment to date in my opinion.
I've been with this series for 20 years and this is still my favorite scene.

This was, and still is, an incredible character moment for Luffy He has no idea what's been going on He knows he's been told to leave but still he's there, just because Nami is his friend
Watching the live action and then watching this makes me realize how much they truly invested into the live action! Emily did a fantastic job as Nami and Luffy was amazing as well!
When i started one piece I believed the people who said “it doesn’t get good til episode 300” I was already hooked on episode 2
This.. this was THE moment that made me realize OP was a series I needed to finish. The moment Luffy walks off and his crew is already there, waiting for their captain…. Damn. That was it
This was one of the greatest scenes I've seen in almost anything. Just those two words were enough to make anyone cry.
It’s not normal. I am 34 years old. Saw this scene 18-20 years ago and even now, makes my eyes watery.
The live action adaptation of this scene was sooo amazing. The lead actress crushed it. She was NAMI
I would see people hype of this moment before I started the series. I get it now.
This is the arc that showed Luffys true greatness. He does not know and he does not care about what history has played down.. All he know is that Nami is his friend and loved navigator and she deserves to be free from all evil.
Luffy giving her the straw hat after explaining to her how important it was earlier is SO good. Fantastic visual storytelling.
This... This is the moment that made me fell in love with One Piece. Nami, a really strong woman, defeated, on her knees, asking for help to the guys she "betrayed". And Luffy, quietly waiting for that moment, no hurry, he knows it has to come from her. Two words that have the same impact as a meteorite: "Help me...", followed by the strong symbolism of Luffy giving her his precious hat after accepting to help her. This is pure perfection ❤ I have to say they nailed this scene in the live action too.
Luffy left his hat with Nami knowing one way or another, he was coming back to get it.
Goosebumps everytime

Came here after the Live-action, I'm surprised how accurate they portrayed this scene.
One of the most iconic moments in any anime i have seen
Crazy part? During this entire arc, all the other characters are filled in about Nami's backstory and the history of Arlong Park. However, Luffy himself doesn't, as he thought that history was boring and would either ignore it or sleep through the exposition. So when Nami accuses Luffy of not knowing anything, he genuinely doesn't know anything about her or her backstory. Yet, he still chooses to help her out on a dime when she asks for it.
This is Voice-acting at the highest level!
One of the things i feel barely anyone notices is that in every situation where they had a chance to learn about Nami's past, both zoro and luffy never even bothered to listen in- they already knew that no matter what they would help her regardless of her circumstances
Came back to watch this scene again after seeing it in the live adaption. Its just a perfect display of "actions speak louder than words" 💯

This was the best moment of the early One Piece for me. Still iconic today. 🎉
Ah man, the walk to Arlong Park. What a legendary moment so early on. It's crazy to me that some people skip or are even recommended to skip the earlier arcs/sagas in OP. Some of my best moments/memories from this show are in the the first 3 sagas. Even Foxy and the Long Ring Long island arc had it's own charm and introduced Aokiji.
After seeing this scene in the live action and now here i gotta watch the anime. Its too good
The howling of the wind in the background makes this scene so damn chilling on top of already being so damn emotional. Such an awesome build to Luffy screaming!
are people coming back here after the live action adaptation?
Definitely one of most powerful scenes in anime history
The only gripe I have with the live action is that they changed the villagers running off to fight arlong to after this scene instead of before, which really changes the emotional weight.
Me and the boys when someone hurts our friends 2:18
This is the episode that I tell people they need to watch up to. If you're not hooked at THIS moment then nothing will.
I love that before this, the Straw Hats were more or less a ragtag gang of guys that barely knew each other. After 2:14, they’re a _crew._ And Arlong made their navigator cry.
I love how passionate Luffy is about making his dreams come true, but will put them on the shelf and risk them all to help another and correct injustice.
Sometimes when there are so many great episodes, you can't remember all of the moments. But this scene right here, i remember it clear as day. Definitely one of the iconic scenes from one piece.
This was the moment that everyone knew that this series would go far and wide and be placed in the history books.
*Did anyone else get this recommended after watching the live action?*
This is why Luffy is the perfect example of how to be an ally: 1. He only steps in when you are clearly hurting yourself 2. Even when you remind him that he has no context or reason to help, his only concern is seeing you get help 3. When you ask for help, he was already going to do it anyway.
Asking for help is a sign of bravery
Ahhh the arlong park arc it's still one of my absolute favorites and this scene is the best of it and got me hooked into one piece watching luffy continue to help nami when she didn't want then when she asked he gathered the boys and went to work loved
This The Moment He Also Became My Captain
I love how the homies were assembled and just waiting for the captain to give the word.
This is the scene that truly sold me to ONEPIECE. From Nami’s despair… to her finally gave in and ask Luffy to help. And Luffy answered the BEST WAY! Still holds to this day!!
