    I’m a pretty new longarm quilter and I really enjoy seeing your work. I’d love to know when you use your ruler vs free motion on the designs as you show them. Did you use a ruler for every straight line, every repetitive curve (Like the orange peel)? Do you keep a ruler base and ruler foot on your machine at all times?

    When you change the top thread color, do you also change the bobbin thread or leave it as-is throughout the quilt? This was SO helpful, especially the thought process behind secondary designs. Thank you, Angela!

  • @deborahlauro1461
    @deborahlauro14613 жыл бұрын

    This is a great video, thank you for the ideas. My question is, if you are switching out colors for your top thread, do you switch them out for the bobbin thread as well? As a general rule, I know it's best to match the two threads at least in color so that if the tension is slightly off, it's not noticeable. Just curious how you do it...

    Angela, your videos and tutorials are so inspirational, and so very appreciated! I've only completed one quilt so far, and did simple straight line quilting. Turned out great! Now I'm making a quilt for my 4 year old granddaughter, and have done a lot of applique on the quilt top. I have her quilt basted and ready to quilt, but am stuck on how to quilt it! It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but it still is waiting to be quilted. It has 6 appliqued dinosaurs (her favorite thing lol), dinosaur eggs, and the center is a volcano with smoke and lava. Its been very labor intense and has turned out great. I've been practicing my free motion quilting following your tutorials, but just cannot decide how to quilt it, so I'm stuck! Do I quilt inside the appliques or do I not? And if so, what quilting designs for inside the dinosaurs??? Her birthday is around the corner now, and I really need to finish this so she can enjoy it. I've not been able to find much info online as to ideas for quilting applique, or whether I should or shouldn't. My concern is the size of the dinosaurs and if I should quilt them to keep the batting stable for the many launderings the quilt will get. I used Soft & Bright batting because it said it's a preferred batting for kids quilts, and because quilting can be spaced as wide as 10 inches (I was thinking of the dinosaurs since they're larger). The quilt size is smaller than twin, but bigger than crib. If anyone has any suggestions I would so appreciate them!!!! I really need some guidance here because I just don't know what I should do!!!! Thank you! Anita- a.k.a. Grammy ;)

    This was helpful, Angela. I think it's helpful to talk about what we want to feature with our quilting. The statement, "I'm going to wait to quilt this until I'm good enough to quilt this..." I'm totally guilty of that and am trying to get over it. I've forged ahead with some and have been glad I did, even though I know I could do them better now. Thanks for reminding me of this! I have an EPP Cherish quilt that I just finished, and I'm struggling to decide how to quilt it. I will try to apply some of your ideas shared here. Thanks! Question: Do you put a piece of muslin behind your EPP tops to prevent bearding? I was advised to do that and wonder what your feelings on that are. Thanks!
