Our simple Hello Kitty and My Melody tutorial is perfect for Sanrio lovers. Growing up I had a whole collection of school stationary of Sanrio that I loved.

Both Toppers are made with 50/50 gum paste and fondant. I used pastel colours for clothes but these can also be darker according to the colour of your cake. When making the head especially for Kitty It’s a simple oval shape but if you put the eyes and nose in the right place that makes it look like the character. Don’t stick the eyes and nose till you’re sure it’s in the right place. Find the mid horizontal line on the face and then place the eyes just below the line. I hope this makes sense. Place them well apart and then place the nose just below the eyes.
I used 2 skewers for each topper as the heads are quite big and need extra support.
I’ve had requests from viewers asking me about the weights of toppers. Ive never worked that way. Everything is always eyeballed according to the size of the cake it goes on. Ive been doing this way for years and even though I’ve tried it I’ve found its very difficult for me to follow the weight method.
