    What i dont get, is when you first start the game, and go through the training process. It literally says close the bugs holes so they dont keep respawning. But in fact if you destroy bug holes/fabricators they spawn more. Just odd to me. Logically youd think doing this would decrease spawn rate

    Might be that they just mean that the bugs stop spawning out of the bug holes, and not the patrols. Generally, I agree with you though - by all logic, closing nests should at least slow down the patrols.

    For bots the head cannon is that they call reinforcements from other parts of the planet thus increasing "patrols" idk about bugs I guess they have a super colony and send more bugs when holes start closing!

    Exactly. I am OCD about getting objectives and POI's and for putting in the extra effort every extraction feels like the gd Battle for Middle Earth.

    If we ignore the lore for a minute and look at it purely from gameplay perspective it makes sense. 1) If it was the other way around it would mean that the game would only be easier and easier as the match goes on, which doesn't really seem appealing. Imagine getting overwhelmed at the beginning before you get your bearings (and support weapons) and then bored at the end. 2) As it is right now, closing bug holes means you will get more rewards but the mission will get harder, it's a tradeoff.

    I like patrols but fighting 3 patrols while fighting a patrol that you ran into while fighting another patrol that ran into you while taking a base out is kind of crappy. I cant fall back because the bots have me surrounded. Even if you clear a route, it will be clogged is 5 seconds. The timer can get as low as 30 seconds. So every 30 seconds a patrol will roll up, call bot drop if its available. They just wouldn't be sending patrols if they are calling bot drops. No need to patrol, as im the only target on this map and they clearly know exactly where I'm at.

    Twinbeard & Joel are the MVPs of Arrowhead. Although much cant be said about alexis and the other CMs. I’m glad they listened to the community and are actively trying to revert back to the previous spawn rates.

    No. They should be aware of ALL of these issues internally. “The community” doesn’t know how to make games. And “the community” is generally just a mob … sometimes a mob of sycophants, sometimes an angry mob. The job of people in PR is to tell “the community” what they want to hear. They’re effectively another branch of marketing. When the CEO engages with people that’s exactly what he’s doing.

    Very much agree on your comments towards Arrowhead, they are insanely good and fast addressing problems! Nothing wrong with a bit of criticism (or a lot) while still appreciating what they're doing.

    This isn’t true. They’re good at communicating with their players. That’s different. They knew patrols were broken before they pushed it. That was … a month ago. They knew it was broken, and they should have either … pulled it out to not break the system (ideal), or immediately began working on a fix. Yeah? Instead you got the worst of both worlds, and you’re thankful they acknowledged that it’s broken weeks later. They knew the stats patch for blitzer and arc thrower were crashing the game like crazy. Did they pull that out of the patch and just leave stats for those broken? Nope. They pushed it and then the game crashed for WEEKS before they fixed it. Easier to just … not introduce those crashes and let people play normally, and continue to fix the issue internally, right? There are a TON of examples like this. It’s a pattern of poor decision making. They almost always have to patch each major patch that comes out to fix performance issues. 3 months of frequent patching … and patching each patch to fix the fixes.

Arrowhead really needs to cool it and actually test things before implementing them or the technical debt will just keep growing on this old engine.

    @@der_shingen8548 I'm not sure the issue is testing. I made video games professionally for over a decade. I worked in QA and managed teams. Later in my career I worked in production and oversaw whole projects. After I left the gaming industry I remained in tech and learned how to write software. Now I interact with QA and project managers (production) as an engineer. I feel like I've seen problems from all sides in nearly 3 decades of workin in tech. The core failure here is with the production team and the people making decisions about what to include. I would bet ALL kinds of money that the QA team is identifying every issue you know about (and a lot more) before each patch releases to market. If they're NOT identifying those things ... the game needs a new QA lead and more experienced (expensive) QA people ASAP. But, that's almost never the case. The easiest and most concrete example would be the stats bug with the blitzer and arc thrower. That's not good, but it's pretty minor. Then, the fix ... is to fix those stats but introduce HORRENDOUS crashes? There's zero chance the QA team didn't identify that the game was crashing with those weapons. They would have used those weapons heavily to make sure the stats issue was fixed. They would have encountered crashes. In what world do you want to fix the accuracy of a gun at the cost of causing crashes for ANYONE in that mission, even people who didn't have the gun to experience the accuracy issue in the first place? It's a MUCH more severe issue (crash vs accuracy not being right), and it impacts more people (the stats thing only impacted people with those weapons, the crash was ANYONE in the mission). QA knew it was happening. Production knew it was happening and they ... somehow ... decided to push that ... instead of just ... removing that one small part of the patch. And, after it went live and it was CLEARLY a big deal .... they didn't roll it back, they left it in for weeks until they could introduce a fix and just ... told people not to use those guns (if you happened to see their message ... MOST players don't read twitter for each game they play). This is an exemplary case of their mindset. It's not good.

    They already stated that they've been too eager to release patches, which - again - is something that you just wouldn't hear for any other company. They have been very good at communicating what's going on and addressing the problems that the community is voicing.

    It was faster than that at times, I would take out two patrols in about 20 secs and turn around to see one to two more patrols already spawned and looking for me

    Patrols on the map aren’t the same as patrols spawning. Many patrols are on the map. If you aggro 3 patrols in 15 seconds that doesn’t mean patrols spawn every 5 seconds. Yeah? Spawn rate is separate from when YOU run into them.

    @@zero11010 i see them spawn, patrols spawn at the edge of where you can see when you look around, and when you turn around and see patrols spawn immediately after killing the last one that spawned they are spawning in too fast

    I would take everyone who complains about unaddressed issue s and put them in any other multiplayer game. In Overwatch you literally had to wait several months for some balance changes. In Dead By Daylight they would take literal month to return a character they removed from the game due to some game breaking bugs. Arrowhead is insanely fast

    I'm excited to see videos after the spawns are fixed, to see the difference on your lvl 9s! You're a big reason I'm able to even attempt SOS calls at that lvl now. I was very reserved for many hours of play, helping only lower lvl SOS calls, but with your guides and videos, I've extended my reach into the highest lvls. Its been fantastic! So here's wishing you all the best as we wait for the spawn rates to change again!

While acknowledging arrowheads shortcomings, you also do a good job at reminding people that the helldiver devs are humans too.     A lot of what Arrowhead does is very much appreciated. The only issue I have is all the hidden changes they make without telling us and the terrible balance philosophy. And since negative hidden changes and constant nerfs to community favorite weapons leaves a sour taste in everybody's mouth, it lessens the enjoyment of the game.

I’m a software developer who has worked with rapid development cycles (every other week) and long development cycles (once a month for 4 months as beta releases and then every 3 months after that for full releases). All working on the same product. What AH are doing now is agile development, which relies on them reacting to feedback on the changes they make. Agile development means rapid output but that output is less stable. Slower development cycles means more stability but they lose their tight feedback loop with us, the players. So choose: the game having more of what you want but with more bugs, or the game having less of what you want and less bugs. Note that with the latter approach means game will be closer to the lead developers’ vision. (I.e. we’d be less likely to have the balancing being reworked in the future)

    I think their game design team is one of the best aspects of the game. I think the team has done poorly on a lot of fronts, but balance has been maintained. There are many niches and play styles. And there are only a bunch of playstyles because they carve niches and don’t leave over powered options in game.

    I really would like a difficulty spike here and there..but not in this way..maybe a sudden surge here and there but allow ample opportunities for things to cool down. Some breathing space. Like if the game counts the amount of enemies and realise oh the player is running into an infinity loop oh time to dial it down. Or the player hasn't killed anything in a few or too little kills count, time to send more patrols their way sorta thing.

    Always love your content and insights. I model my solo play off your channel about 80%. I'm not as good as you, but it really gives me some perspective on certain aspects of play. I still struggle to clear 7 solo, but this change should help a little. My progress is incremental so the more weapons I unlock the more options I can choose from. Just when I was getting good they broke both my legs with the spawn rates lol... Looking forward to less patrols overrunning me, and I'm also looking forward to seeing more of your runs. I can't wait for the Illuminate to show up, they were brutal in HD1.

    But they did test it. They have consistently pushed bad content. Crashes and broken content get pushed instead of holding those things back. He spoke about how long it takes to get patches in other games. How many of those patches …. Require patches for patches? Almost every time they do a major patch … they apologize and have to patch the patch to fix stuff. Stuff their QA team would have already known about. Do you think the engineers tweaked the patrol system and none of their QA team looked at patrols in more detail than a random KZreadr? That’s literally the job of QA. Anyone with a few weeks of experience would know that if a system is touched … you check that system. So, did they not look at all? Unlikely. Did they look and not notice? Unlikely. Did they look and see it and call it out and the production department said “we will get to it in the future, just push the broken thing.” Yeah, that sounds more likely. I made video games professionally for over a decade. Major studios. I’ve worked in QA and lead QA teams, and worked in production. I work as an engineer now and work with QA on the other side of things. There is a lot wrong with what they’re doing. And there is a big difference between what they say and what they do. PR is basically marketing. And it’s marketing’s job to tell consumers what they want to hear.

    I noticed the patrols as well, when I tried to do some solo medium difficulty missions to farm samples and every dive I would have done over 300 kills against both, Terminids and Automatons which is absolutely crazy. The radar would be completely filled in my zone with enemies red dotes, would ran out of ammo the whole time, sometimes even reinforces and I dont even go for kills when I play unless its ofc a extermination mission.

    I know we shouldn't lower our standards to the lowest common denominator, but after suffering though copium addiction during DayZ "development" for many... many, years, if a fix comes through within a month of the issue, I think we just gotta accept that as ok enough, even if it's a simple rollback of a change. Sometimes rollbacks are harder than it seems, it comes down to the most boring bits of software development.

    its only now occurred to me that most of my time playing this game has been after the patrol rate increase lmao no wonder playing difficulty 5 and beyond has been borderline impossible for me. i can never extract from 5s so i don't get any samples i'm glad the team have acknowledged this

    this made me kinda play the game less as i just couldn't face all the enemies, i love the game but with so many enemies and being a fairly low level without many good build options it just made the game unfun most of the time

    My gripe with solo play is that if you want a full clear on Helldive, the only viable way to get it is to avoid fights as much as you can. Patrol? Divert or go somewhere else. Reinforcements? Go somewhere else. Basically you want to do outposts / objectives as pairs, you strike one and the moment it gets swarmed you run to the next one and then come back to the previous one, repeat until completion. If you try to take a fight you will run out on clock.

    I wouldn't mind higher difficulties being added that are essentially impractical for solo play, but as you said the difficulty of the current threat levels started out do-able and then became significantly less fun. It would be cool if there was 10,11,12 bracket added with unique enemies or objectives. Could also be possible that higher level difficulties beyond 9 could get unique strategems that couldn't be taken to lower difficulties.

    Taking out fabricators/bug holes should reduce patrol spawn. Patrols also shouldn't camp at the evac, but march right on through. Right now, there is no way to evac with a stealth build at higher difficulties.

    I am glad they are reverting the patrol changes. Hard difficulty missions in duos sometimes felt just as insane as Helldive difficulty with 4 players due to the amount of patrols being spawned. There was no way to escape the constant onslaught of Berserkers and Jetpack Automatons.

    Some snipers like to miss a shot to make their next couple shots more accurate. I think Arrowheads does this very good. Trying to make a change they want and just shoot and sometimes it is perfect and sometimes they need to adjust. In this case they quickly try again and get the changes more and more right. Its just sometimes hard to make a change with so many aspects.

    It's reassuring to hear that Arrowhead plans on reverting the patrol spawn rates as well as some of the big nerfs. It is nice that they've been quick to respond with messages and updates, but let's not forget that both Pilestedt (the CEO) and Twinbeard have mentioned that their next update's gonna take more time than usual. I honestly think that's for the best, seeing as past updates have come with several new bugs and crashes, which were signs of them being rushed. I look forward to the new change, but at the same time, I hope they have enough time to iron everything out before release.

    It'll be great to return to pre-patch spawns for 7 and lower difficulties so that people in smaller teams can farm samples too. They can make 8-9 a lot harder.

    I noticed groups of 4 are even getting more "bug breaches" and "bot drops." But they just spawn in the same place over and over, so you can literally just walk around the whole swarm/army when their spawn is in-between objectives.

    The passion takibo shows is reminiscent of the passion we see the team and ceo of arrowhead shows for their game. Remember that esp through text negativity can be much more amplified by the filters in our minds so things aren't always AS bad as it seems..though at the same time its a great message to remind everyone to be patient and civil when discussing problems and criticisms so props for that. I personally believe that them listening to us and doing what we "want" is not always gonna be the best vs what is "needed" for a good game...but it indeed feels better to know we're heard and they're doin their best out there. Stay passionate and keep spreading as much positivity and great videos as you do managed democracy, Helldiver

    Totally agree, I think the dev team is working absurdly hard. Hope that the negativity will go down more now, don't want them to burn out, and it looks like in time we will get most of the changes we want

    People complain about a game, because they like it and want it to get better. You should really be concerned if everyone stops complaining, because that means everyone thinks the game is unsavable. If that happens, then the game just dies since it's a live service game.

    Honestly I kinda wish it remained like this but spawns slowed down as you took out nest/bases. Make it worth it to clear them out

    It really sucked when i was playing with randoms with a full squad and two left after a mission was complete. No one else was joined us for the next mission, so the spawn counts were way up, even though we hadnt choswn to play like that. During that mission, i also didnt get the option to put down an sos beacon, suggesting that no one joined us because of a bug. So, we were being punished for pkaying with a bug that we couldn't control. Im glad this is getting changed.

    The reward for clearing bug holes and fabricators is the spread of democracy. lol. I think it makes sense to increase patrols as POI and objectives are cleared. However, I think there is an issue with patrols not always spawning from the edge of the map. Also, I personally think their active player tracking is a bit too much. I think two different types of patrols should exist. One is normal patrols that walk a random path from one side of the map to the other or from one POI to the other. The normal patrol should be a flat spawn rate, not determined by objective progress. The other being an encounter response patrol. Where a patrol spawns after a set time to respond to breaches/bot drops, and POI clears to check up on them. This would create an urgency to move out of an area while still being able to predict where a patrol is going. It would also increase the risk/reward with engaging with existing patrols. After the encounter patrol makes it to the target location, if not engaged, they should walk off the map. This would be in addition to normal patrols. Definitely an oversimplification, but I don't want to write a novel in the comments. (And I swear it used to work this way too!) Basically, I am fine with increased patrols, but those patrols shouldn't hone in on the player's location.

It feels like they've set the bar for themselves so high that even dropping the ball just a little will cause hoards of ravenous fans to come out of the woodworks to attack them.     Arrowhead doesn’t get enough praise. They are seriously incredible as far as devs go and so many people have just latched onto the negative sentiment that Sony and the balance changes were building. What other devs have been so quick to make changes, so receptive to the community, so interactive with the community. We are spoiled with arrowhead. There’s some kinks sure but overall man they’re the best devs for any live service game hands down.

    This is kinda unrelated. A ''procure on site'' challenge would be cool to see, standard armor and no strategems at all, you just use what you get in the mission, that would make SAEF and weapon crash sites actually useful. Whether or not that could be possible solo, and on what difficulty I have no idea, but could be a fun challenge.

    Thank FUCK. Honestly, nothing would make me happier than being able to solo higher difficulty missions on days when I just dont feel like dealing with strangers. Especially considering most missions were impossible solo so you just couldnt finish an OP by yourself, so you'd have to hope a decent group would join, wouldn't leave mid mission, you wouldnt DC or they wouldnt screw you over somehow. Hope they can finally balance it a bit.

    If you like the harder spawn rates as they currently are, I hope the developers can add a tweakable setting for solo players. But only to make it harder, not easier! Otherwise getting samples would be too easy by comparison. I personally prefer solo play so I'm happy with this decision, had a hard time clearing difficulty 7 missions, 8 was too much for me to clear all objectives.

    Thank you for seeing the positive side and putting it out there. I feel like every video is always about "the game is dying, this change ruined the game, why would arrowhead do this?" I feel like people need to take a step back and realize what a great job arrowhead is doing. If it weren't for the negative atmosphere echo chamber surrounding the game in the media, I feel like almost everyone would just be happily playing the game and using guns they like.

    Im pretty happy with pace arrowhead is releasing stuff. And acknowledging its issues. But i do am a statistic of those ho stop playing after last patch, idk if its all about patrolls, or underwhelming weapons, but the fun wasnt there anymore.

    I still don't get why patrols are not spilling out of bug holes. You need to close them to curb immediate numbers. Once you clear them, patrols spawn on a random timer and in random amounts from the edge of the map, then take random walking paths across the map, joining up when they encounter each other. I'd also like to see stalkers and shriekers showing up as sub objectives starting at medium. What about bot expeditions on bug planets as a sub objective? Why can't enemy composition shift during a mission?

    I think Arrowhead are incredible and doing their best, but might possibly be overworked with their content drop cycle. Whenever a new warbond or patch drops, the known issues list of their patch notes grows longer and I kind of feel like they aren't given/giving themselves enough time to really test new content before they release it (take for example whenever we get a new mission type like the tower defense missions, the ramps on those missions often break and when they first got released you could see red boxes coming out of the terrain).

    Even if ur in a group of 4 I've noticed a drastic change in increase of patrols compared to before. So they keep mentioning fixing the issue for less then 4 but what about fixing a full team as well.

    I remember when Destiny was in shambles and took a literal year for some actual changes to take place, and we had to hear from the devs that "it's hard to make videogames" lmao. Ofc it is but at least show us some progress. And that's what AH is good at, they do put some work and passion to the game.

    Thank you for saying this! Arrowhead is fantastic so far. They are a small company trying to handle the crowd demands of AAA titles and remain in the good graces of the community. It's almost like they are the irl Helldivers and we the irl bug hordes swarming them with complaints.

    I love your thoughts on ArrowHead. I worry that the community can be quite negative and toxic at times. It is clear that AH cares about their game, and the community. They are a small operation that is doing crazy hours working on a game that exploded in popularity. I've been playing Overwatch for years and let me tell you that balance changes would take a minimum of months and sometimes years to fix. And that comes from the massive Blizzard organisation! Thank you for shouting out AH.

    4 man play is still a walk in a park above level 7. Yeah, sometimes you will get butchered at level 9. But at level 7, more or less, you can really relax and chill and not do a whole lot and clear 100% of the missions at half time.

    I always believe in the dev despite all these backlash, I just I got burnout from the spawn rate increase I wasn’t active enough these past few weeks but now I can casually play Helldiver as before and not anymore urging to punch my pc monitor because how frustrated it is to kept on killing patrols every 2 minutes

    Two things can be true at the same time. Good things have been said about Arrowhead from the start and still are but that doesn't meant they don't deserve plenty of critique. Because they deserve a lot of it too. I think it was the other way around till now, they got more love and leniency than they should have.

    Devs being responsive is actually very very common. Its just rare from big AAA games. But all the thousands upon thousands of games, even solo indie devs, will often promptly respond with fixes and changes. Though the duration of this "lively" time is limited, because most of those games aren't live service games. Smaller games need some way to convince consumers to try them out, things like dev responsiveness, price point, minimum requirements, etc, are how they do it.

    While the dev team most certainly has its "bad seeds" with balancing and even some CMs that might not be "devs" but still represent the company sometimes in a bad way through social media, I will agree they're doing a great job overall. I'm aware they're a smaller team despite the big Sony name related to them and it certainly isn't easy to manage such a huge popularity spike, but I'm glad they agree to take things more slowly and not rush changes. We've seen how bad untested additions and balancing can be for the enjoyment of the game, they can totally take it slower and deliver some stellar updates that are properly tested and thought out. They still have some great ideas for weapon types, stratagems and upcoming enemies, so if they play it right with the Illuminates we can have a huge comeback of the game I'm sure.

    This is a great video! But the title is misleading. I know there are others who like to latch on to those types of titles, but its best if you nurture an honest community. The issue hasnt been fixed yet, but your title says it has been. If you use titles like that, youll get a surge of new people, but right sfter youll get a bigger surge of people complaining the titles are misleading and therefore they will stop watching. Happened with another creator i watched early when the game came out. Havent watched him since and hes still using the same type of titles, lol. But anyway, keep up the solid content 🤍

    Kind of overstating it to say solo/duo play is "fixed" when the announcement was just that they're starting to work on it, especially since the end of the announcement also says it's going to take longer than usual. While I'm all for them doing more internal testing (the spawn rate change was far from the first time something hasn't rolled out as advertised), I'm surprised they're claiming their plan is to revert to the old spawn rates but they're not just reverting to the old code for it, which should be fully reliable and relatively quick and easy. I know reverting code is never 100% as simple as Ctrl-Z, but they haven't made any other spawn changes that we know of since the change, so it seems like confirming the old code still works would be pretty easy. Makes me think they're still planning to tweak spawn rates in some way and not telling us, which frankly has me worried. I do generally like Arrowhead. They're quite responsive to community concerns and have put a lot of effort into fostering a pretty amiable and open relationship with the player base. I do, however, get the impression that they're kind of overwhelmed by the work of managing this game. Even several months on from release, most patches are primarily focused on fixing stability problems, which is dev time they can't spend on other issues. While I absolutely agree with the choice to prioritize stability over all else, the fact that it's been such a persistent issue for them really seems to have set them back in addressing gameplay issues players find frustrating. I wonder how much that extra workload has contributed to how many post-launch patches have had straight up broken features like the spawn rate change or fire damage getting massively overtuned. Even the latest warbond felt severely undercooked, and considering all Arrowhead's been dealing with lately, it's not hard to guess why. I'm willing to cut the devs some slack considering how much goodwill they've bought by being responsive to the community, but with so many nerfs to guns I enjoyed, most buffs being inadequate to interest me in new guns, many major bugs still persisting in the game (would love it if my beloved arc thrower could work properly), and a lot of trust lost due to the Sony debacle, I've reached a point where my interest is starting to wane.

    The healthiest thing any of us can do in regards to a video game is to learn when not to play it. Many of us play these games too much, and get way too mentally wrapped up in them. Taking breaks, limiting the number of hours we play total does a lot to keep the game in perspective with other games we play, and with IRL concerns that should always be more important. Taking breaks keeps the game fresh, longer (burnout). Most importantly stepping back from the game gives us a chance to really appreciate it for what it is. Helldivers 2 is unlike anything I've ever played before and I want that to last.

    This sounds like TREASON!!!!! Helldivers should never take a break. We are needed every second of every hour of every day. You can't spread managed democracy while doing IRL stuff. Get it together helldiver you are needed on the front!!!!
