It still astonishes me on how good many MD500 pilots are, and to think on how it reminds me of the 160th SOAR and these types of landings on ledges is just purely amazing. I highly doubt any small helicopter could perform this type of job, I would love to continue to see the Little Bird legacy to continue for decades to come, it has really earned a long living legacy.

Uh, that's awesome. Thanks for a great upload. As a young'in, the Hughes 500C was my favorite Helicopter. Some generations later, the MD530 still has a place in my heart.

EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!! Especially for not overdubbing a soundtrack, the 5-blade rotor head and the Rolls-Royce 250-C30 engine is a symphony in itself. Absolutely incredible piloting skill, man and machine are as one.

The control touch that this guy has is amazing!!! 😳

No music. I have waited years to say that :) Thanks The skids are so stable, no movement or wobble at all. Is this just a brilliant pilot or the 500 in general do we think? Having watched many other similar vids, I can't say I have ever seen such stable precision from a heli. Amazing

Awesome work, and thanks for keeping the shutter speed right so the main rotor blades look correct!!! Most video producers don't take that into consideration and the blades either spin the wrong direction, or in slo-mo... lol. 👍

@@FMK_tv if I wasn’t 6ft 2” with a bad back, I’d put this one down as my all time favourite ships also? Compared to the BH206 and Astar, it was the best little bird to fly into confined areas, toe-in/hover exits, long lining and overall aerial work. It’s like an agile sports car that could pull stumps out of the ground all day long however, when you’ve been in the game for +25 years, things like comfort, range and power starts to take priority? In that respect, it’s hard to beat a Eurocopter AS-350 B3 or whatever they call them nowadays? It’s the Cadillac Escalade to this Ferrari Testarossa 😊

Use to do stump jumps like this when I was helicopter logging gotta move slow tho so the pilot can correct for the weight

Putting a skid onto something rooted, is ideal for someone heavy climbing onboard, no need to compensate for a dipping skid due to weight transfer, just sit the skid on something planted.

Nope, just gives a more stable platform for the person to climb on and makes for less compensation for the pilot to counteract the on or off going weight.

After the OH6, Commercial 500s originally had a front middle seat option so the PIC sat on the left so the permanent collective is near the door. You can still order them right hand PIC if you want tho. Left seat is ideal for utility work and this type of flying tho, as it’s easier to lean out the door and the collective is right there below you.

I have a issue with the last pickup, The helicopter approach the hill facing into the hill , with the pickup up hill and in front of the helicopter. Wouldn't you want the pickup off to the side and maybe slightly down hill from the helicopter before approaching the helicopter and the rotorblades with a higher ground clearance.?

That’s a toe-in and yes the approach to load was from the side of the helicopter well below the rotor disc. Part of that video clip he walked around at a distance above the rotor just to give perceptive for the video. You would never approach from up hill. 👍

I worked with The Gwinnett County Sheriffs Dept. Years ago. Gwinnett PD had some of the finest pilots back then. I am sure that they are still some of the finest. Gwinnett County Ga. is or was a great place to live. Now that the Democrats have taken over, not so much.

Then the Dems came in, raised taxes, inmates get released the same to next day even for serious offenses that they would have to bailout on, now just get released after promising to go to court, which most don’t. They commit new crimes pretty much out the gate and get released again. You are right, I went from praising our PD brothers to political view. I do apologize. I should have stayed on topic. I just hate to see a great county go downhill. I would not call it childish though. Thank you for your honest response! 😁
