Helene's charm and beauty is an ongoing event, she is happening now and that is amazing. I can't dream of anything greatest than you, dear Helene.

It's how most intelligent musicians talk, articulation skills mastered, because you can't talk to other musicians without knowing how to speak the hidden, somewhat "elven" language, that you learn in music college. The people that don't understand the language just focus on how beautiful someone looks or how sexy their voice sounds, go figure

I'm not hugely impressed by the interviewer's questions, but the responses are more than generous ... the interview succeeds on that basis in my view. It's remarkable that this interview is as recent as 2016, Ms Grimaud went through a period of very serious illness prior to that, thank God she has recovered so evidently. Some have complimented her beauty in the comment thread, I can think of stronger reasons to approve of her as an individual, certainly as a wonderful and inspired and really courageous artist, but indeed she is looking superb here. I wish her long life, and a continuing evolution as an artist to always keep track of.

she says she's not afraid to hit it. that is, she plays with emphasis when required. i call it banging away. it is what van cliburn did. he would almost leave his seat and fall with his whole body. banging away when needed defines the physical strength needed to play this and most instruments. she also draws the respect of conductor and orchestra. few do it. a most impressive individual and one who should not limit her accomplishment to music. the world needs more like her.

I thank you Helene that you are willing to push your limits, and expand and take risks in your playing... It certainly seemed like you were really doing that, when you played Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, at the San Francisco Symphony Music Hall!... The way you played the 2nd movement just swept me away, my eyes full of tears, my heart singing... and I can tell you that I was not the only one in the audience who felt this way... even the door keeper told me that he had never experience such playing, in all the time he had been working for the Symphony! :)

Thank you too, to the interviewer. Did his job so well that we focus on Helene. One thing where she is not necessarily correct is at 25:02 . She refers to a connection between the world of the composer and the listener. In her interpretation of the Brahms PC1 she transcends that. Brahms has drawn a profound tenderness and put it to music. It seems to me that she and Brahms were both 'mediums' and she has felt (far beyond the notes on the page) this world of tender beauty and so that is what comes out and the listener is reduced to tears from a message that has passed through Brahms, the Conductor, Orchestra, and Helene.

She is very truthful. She says she is an interpreter, a medium between the composer and the listener. So she is very truthful also musically and strives to be a documentary player of traditional classically composed music. Since she is so trustworthy she should research little known and little played composers of the Baroque Era and play on their instrument of choice, the Harpsichord and the Organ and lift their obscurity up to recognition and inform the listeners with new musical enjoyment and knowledge and be a beacon of knowledge of that music which is relatively hidden from listeners.

She reminds me of footage I've seen of Nadia Boulanger-- a kind of distinctively French ability to just lose oneself in music, a belief in un-self-conscious spiritual communion with the composer. But in a very feminine way. Intellect, emotions and physicality all in perfect harmony. She starts playing, and its as if no other act, physical or otherwise, could be more natural to her. And a complete transcendence of any tension between the spiritual and the physical -- all seamlessly united, and as if it's only in this activity that she achieves perfect wholeness, and perfect happiness. It's very French-feminine.

Forget all that stuff... When I come home from work and throw my hard hat across the room on a chair and scream "Hey Baby..What's for dinner". as I pull up my T-Shirt and scratch my stomach.. I have only only one concern.. "Can she cook"...??..??

well, if Helene can say that Bach is the greatest of all musical geniuses, I suppose I can feel justified in continuing to practice WTK Books 1 & 2 on a regular basis. Thanks Helene! No snark intended. Just sheer admiration and a touch of adulation.

Such a great interview! She is not only talented for playing the piano, but also for her speaking. The essense of her music might stem from her heartwaming, thoughtful mind.

In my humble opinion Helene is by far the best Pianist in our modern time. Just watch just one of her performance Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 4, Op. 58 (It was Sublime.)
