If I didn't know any better I'd guess the 1st part was a 20th century piece. I am surprised Biber is not more well known.

The instrumentation actually changes in all the seven "Partitas" of the collection: the seventh one calls for two viole d'amore, but this first one originally calls for two violins. Maybe some versions for viole d'amore exist, but the original is written for two violins.
