Hi Jamie, I wondered if you could advice me. I'm having big issues with my newly acquired Golden Fleece csm..it came to me in a bit of a state, I restored it and purchased new needles. Sat down to start to get familiar with its ways..but..5 hours on and there seems to be something seriously wrong. However much I adjust the stitch tensioner up or down..all I get is incredibly tight stitches..can you think of something that I'm missing..I'd be very grateful. Kind regards and thank you for all your great videos.

My first guess is this: how is the yarn coming into the machine? Is it twirling freely from a cone? Next, is the topper threaded properly? Thirdly, I would ask if you have downward pressure. I have never knit with a Golden Fleece so after those two things are answered, it would be my guess that mechanically something is not correct.

@@jmemayfield hi Jamie, yes, yarn is coming freely of the cone, I've used 3 of your methods for cast on, all using a tonn of weights..the first round always looks promising, then it starts going pear shaped. I've tried checking all the ratios on the tensioning screw to no avail..it's as if the spring beneath the tensioning screw is maybe too long, that it can't tighten down enough, maybe not an original. Other than that as a guess, I don't know what else to be looking out for that would indicate a faulty part. The yarn is threaded correctly, I printed off the original instruction book for the machine and read back to front..no help there. The needles are a 12 Guage, apparently correct for this make amongst others. The arm with the yarn threaded to catch the needles seems at the correct height and distance from the latches..just can't see where the problem is..very strange and frustrating. I'll try making a video and maybe try see if a shorter spring would work but I'm not convinced 🤔 I appreciate very much your knowledge on the matter, it's my first time on a csm..experienced with flatbed machines only..Darn!

@@jmemayfield ok, will do, thank you. I've been at it again all afternoon..made some headway..making sure the wool on the cone is wound well, I turned the tension button upside down which got some good results, it seems very yarn sensitive too, with a fairly lightweight single ply alpaca it works but a bit of a battle..inconsistencies all round..but a small step forward!
